Ordinals are just sats that when ordinal theory is applied to them they become non-fungible/unique. Inscriptions are files uploaded to Bitcoin (IPFS basically) and do not have to be financialized with the ordinal necessary. IMO the main pitch for the ordinals part is that you basically have an ERC-721 type standard for NFTs on Bitcoin (I think of Counterparty more as ERC-1155). And as many of us have believed in here for a long time there is value in holding an NFT on the longest running and most immutable blockchain. You basically get all of the properties that make BTC valuable except for our art etc. now as well. So the fact that it's Bitcoin is the main part of the pitch IMO. Then the other main part is that the protocol makes it dead simple to "upload" files to Bitcoin where they will be stored essentially forever. That is the inscription. Yes some people did fully on-chain stuff on Ethereum but the ERC-721 protocol wasn't really developed for that, it assumed storage would be offchain, so < .1% of the art is on-chain. With Ordinals, it's probably 95%+. So to answer your question the TLDR is that it's on Bitcoin not Solana or Tezos or something so the benefits there should speak for themself, and then the fully on-chain part is a big appeal. Fully on-chain NFTs on Bitcoin clearly resonates with a lot of collectors/artists/brands.
