Simple answer is they are created with bitcoin transactions, stored, created, held, sent, recieved to and from bitcoin addresses.
Long answer, counterparty, xcp, Is a layer 2 on bitcoin, which enables asset creation, it destroyed a shit tonne of bitcoin on its creation, to create assets you need to hold/destroy some xcp when creating an asset/rarepepe
You do have to make sure you are using correct wallet/addresses for certain functions, for example sending a RarePepe to a binance wallet would result in losing assets.
To be sold on ethereum (opensea) they are sent to emblem vaults, still on a bitcoin address but the vault can be traded in ethereum, kinda like a wrapped RarePepe. -

I think was kind of like a presale of xcp, over 2000 bitcoin were burned (I think sent to an address to which no one has access)

Emblem vault, the owner has access with like a metamask wallet, yes trust is needed but essentially you are still the custodian, there are extra risks with eth like clicking a wrong link and access to wallet can be gained, and if the perpetrator has the know how, could gain access to tge RarePepes on emblem vaults. -
Yh I mean you have to kind of trust emblem vault, they say that they don't have access to the seed/keys of the bitcoin addresses, if your a buyer from opensea, ownership of the vault is transfered to you, then you can crack the vault (access the keys) and access the assets (when this happens it will show on opensea) , and then you could send or sweep the rares to a different bitcoin address
