the other worry is for the artists here who have yet to issue new Fake Rares - is there a wallet/explorer you can use with XCP 2.0 that allows you to do your magic? and if not, are there any assurances from existing wallet devs to provide backwards compatibility?

I appreciate Kane's perspective and I do think a lot can be done to support artists. From my understanding, his art isn't presently showing on Horizon as it does not yet support CIP25, like Tokenscan/Freewallet does. It certainly sucks, in the short-term. That being said, this is nothing new or specific to Horizon. You'll notice that other Fake rare cards like TheBurnCard (https://tokenscan.io/asset/THEBURNCARD) doesn't work either on Tokenscan (just the animated gif shows, but the audio is missing). The reality is that standardized methods of adding art to tokens on Counterparty has always been a bit of a shit-show. Links are fragile and often break. Rare Pepes don't contain pointers at all. This is why my focus has been Stamps for the last couple years. I don't want to rely on the availability of some 3rd-party hosting.

So bottom line, Kane has a legitimate concern and artists shouldn't even have to worry about the technical underpinnings of their tokenized art. But at the same time, this is nothing new. It's actually par for the course with Counterparty. In fact none of this stuff is even really at the protocol level, so I shoudn't say these are "Counterparty" issues. For instance, Tokenscan doesn't support CIP33 which impacts the rendering of Stamps art.

From my understanding, Horizon devs are working to add support for CIP25, so I expect this is just a short-term bump in the road. Long-term, I see a lot of exciting opportunities for artists on Counterparty.
