From my experience on photoshop, resizing a high res image to 400x560 distorts alot, so workaround is doing a 2-3 stage resizing helps, for ex: resizing 4000x5600 image to 2000x2800 and then to 1000x1400 and again to 400x560. Just try a and see does it make any difference:) -
its very content dependant. fine lines etc will always look horrible on reduction, there are re-sampling modes that will help things look better when downsizing, but they are not always a one click trick.

photoshop & other programs really should allow a duel or more canvas setup where you can run two identical canvases at different sizes at the same time with one input method for adjustments/effects. so you effectivly create two different size outputs at the same time, each rendered exactly at their corresponding size.

P.s. coit, we got to Lapland wilderness with helicopter, crossing some mountains. When i said wilderness i meant its just a place where you cant escape from it. You cant call taxi there.
