How many of you are familiar with the demoscene subculture of the 80s-90s-2000s ?
I grew up with them, watching them evolve, master coders got toghether to program incredibly small, single executable programs, most of them in assembly language, that had music, 3d models, animations, effects, and the whole program was either 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k, 32k, 64k bytes, so most were smaller than a jpg. They achieved this by not using any content creation software, but by programming low level algorithms for all the actions and effects on the screen.
Here's an example of a demo that had only 8k (8192 bytes !)

This community to me is like the grandfather of the PEPEs, pioneer weirdos breaking established barriers, they were often doing stuff that was "impossible" on a specific machine.
PS. for non-techy people, remember, these were not pre-recorded videos, but were generated and were running in real time on very slow machines.
EDIT: I messed up, the demo I posted isn't 8KB (the video title tricked me), but I've seen similar that are, even 4KB, but stupid teenage me didn't archive them, and now I have to search for them again... -

I was a fan and collector of Amiga demos, always hunting for the next cool thing, so much so that I organised computer club meetings at high school in 1987/88 where we’d show off whatever the coolest latest demos we’d collected and had one machine set up with two drives and fast copier software to run off dupes for each other. I then went to University of Technology Sydney to learn to be a professional geek rather than just an amateur ;-)
