Just saw the bit about not storing the seed words electronically. I took and screenshot of mine AND I wrote it on paper. Is it bad that I took a screenshot of it? Would just deleting it be safe enough? I just get afraid of losing the paper.
Another question... I’m getting concerned, with all the bitcoin news of late that more and more platforms might implode. I still have mine in Coinbase. How do I store it in a wallet instead? I have a Coinbase wallet and I downloaded the FreeWallet, but where is the best place to put it and how do you do it?
I bought bitcoin a bit high so I lost a lot of money already, but I’m thinking if I store it in a wallet and the value goes up again, my money will gain back its value too even if it’s in a wallet, right? It’s not like stocks where if you pull out you don’t make anymore money on it. Is that correct?
Sorry for all the questions but I’m such a newbie in this. I’d appreciate the help. Thanks!! 🤗 -
Hey fren you def should not take screenshots of your seed phrase. Make copies on paper and place in different trusted locations. Best to order a trezor.io hardware wallet and get your coins off coinbase -

Hey, new question... on the SafePal website, it says (about the SafePal software wallet and the hardware wallet): “...both of them don't store your asset, they just protect your private key and seed phrase.” In contrast, does Trezor store the actual assets? @pappyG45 what do you think of a wallet that doesn’t store the assets and only protects the seed phrase?

Wallets (many different forms) hold the keys (long encryption password)🔑 that work for your collection of bitcoin addresses and allow you to create (sign) new transactions. Some wallet software will display assets that are associated with your wallet addresses. Your wallet can exist many places simultaneously if you enter the seed phrase into hardware wallets and software wallets. You could destroy the wallets all together and continue receiving bitcoin or just leave the bitcoin alone and everything will still be as it was when you restore your wallet on a new piece of hardware of software. -

Another question for y’all. Is a decentralized software wallet safe enough for a newbie who only has a small amount of bitcoin as opposed to getting a hardware wallet? (I’ve been looking into SafePal - Just app versus buying the hardware)

Somebody in the chat suggested SafePal and I kinda liked their platform because they also have a hardware version so I’m assuming the app and hardware can connect. I’ll look into Blue Wallet too.
I just wasn’t sure if the hardware was absolutely necessary if you have a good wallet? I guess maybe in the event of a blackout? -
Hey I’m still researching various wallets to figure out what to go with... and a balance between safety and cost of wallet. I heard Trezor can be easily hacked? Then there’s reports of assets disappearing in SafePal... 🤦♀️ but some websites list those two as top choices along with Ledger. then there’s BlueWallet that I guess can connect with Trezor too. I guess I’m just super concerned I’m gonna do something wrong and my bitcoin will disappear.... anyone want to ease my concerns? Lol 😆 I’m legit spinning in circles trying to figure out how to safeguard my tiny amount of bitcoin. Sorry for overposting! 😬

It’s a process to get comfortable…. I couldn’t sleep at night the first time I put my sats on a cold wallet 😂 get comfortable being uncomfortable and eventually you will get there. bluewallet not great I recommend freewallet.io if you are going to use a software wallet

seed signer's purpose is so your seed phrase doesn't touch a computer, why would you have sparrow and seedsigner (for the same wallet) ? -
I've read all comments and I think people are overcomplicating things. Have two wallets :
1. long term storage, seed/private key not digitally stored (no sw wallet, no hw wallet) , public key on a "watch only" wallet so you can send fund to it, no way to spend for the forseable future
2. the most convenient wallet you can think of, even on your phone, for short term, small sum storage and spending
This way you have 1. absolute security + 2. complete ease of use
When you stack, send however much you see fit to 1. and 2. -
Can you please explain point 1 as if you’re talking to a child. Cause that’s where I’m at.

GBTC currently trades at a discount to their 'reserve' - there is FUD surrouding these reserves and the parent company Digital Currency Group (Grayscale is the actual Trust adminstrator). Take that discount to mean what you want, it, as a stock still generally tracks the price of bitcoin.
The reason it can be cheaper, or the reason i see for it to exist, is that it being inside the traditional boomer market, an individual can choose to allocate money set aside for 'retirement' which via mechanisms like 401k or Roth IRA can be contributed to tax-free to GBTC in these accounts -

it's device that runs the BTC ledger. the more nodes running the ledger the safer BTC is. as long as there is 1 node running, the ledger is safe. -
in other words, an emp can destroy the entire power grid, but as long as 1 node is running, all nodes can eventually come back online and tap I to that node and keep the ledger going

typically, people have been taking old laptops and using the readily available open source software and creating their own nodes. it's next level in your BTC roadmap but something to work towards. there are unlimited benefits to running your own node including being your own bank!

yeah just went down this path...learned that dell refurbs are waay better bang for the buck..at least for a home automation docker machine...raspi has a lot of purpose built hardware use cases so it is def not obsolete

The lowest cost home build node I see on eBay would be a 1tb ssd ($60) loaded in an old pc with at least an Intel i3 or AMD equivalent cpu ($50), so about $110 total.

there are always going to be better ways to purchase BTC but, depending on your level of knowledge, it can be overwhelming. we are running out of days to purchase BTC overall so I say, purchase them and get them off exchanges. there are options out there to clean coins but again, comes at a high level of understanding.
