I see value in a truly immutable history book, even if it cost us all a little extra in fees. Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 demonsrates the need

But not worth it if it breaks bitcoin. I'm not technical enough to know if it will

This is the important metric for Bitcoin Ordinals. People paying more and more to create inscriptions. Bitcoin miners are benefiting, and there’s more security and utility for Bitcoin.

Are you saying the threat of quantum computing is the ability to guess an infinite number of private key combinations? If information is electricity, wouldn't that require a lot of electricity. If computing gets stronger, can't the keys get longer? I'm only 6 mo into my BTC journey, genuinely trying to understand
-
that is precisely what a quantum computer does best

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlzJyp3Qm7sBitcoin Q&A: Is Quantum Computing a Threat? Is quantum computing a threat to Bitcoin? How can Bitcoin become more secure against a quantum computing attack? Will this upgrade require moving coins to new addresses? Will it be implemented as a soft or hard fork? What happens to coins controlled by lost keys? CORRECTION: Apologies for the confusion - regarding the question of whether Satoshi's (suspected) coins would be vulnerable to a quantum computing attack on ECDSA, the correct answer is in the first clip at 3:05. While what I initially say at 6:10 is true, that Satoshi did not spend their coins, those coinbase transactions still used pay-to-public-key (P2PK) instead of pay-to-public-key-hash (P2PKH), which means the public keys are already exposed. More about hashing and public key cryptography in Bitcoin: https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook/blob/develop/ch04.asciidoc Chapters 0:00 How can we safeguard bitcoin against quantum computing? 3:31 Satoshi's one million coins and quantum computing. Does quantum computing mean that, at some point, all lost coins could be reclaimed because they can't be moved to an upgraded address? 5:13 Quantum computing attacks will most likely affect the digital signature algorithm first These questions are from the May monthly Patreon session and part of the Denver talk, which took place on May 26th and August 6th 2018 respectively. Quantum computers if they are all powerful and capable of everything would fugg up literally everything tho no? Not just bitcoin but the internet entirely? Nothing would be secure anymore
-
The quantum fud has been discussed too many times here. Polynomials are just equations, "protect against polynomials" does not make any sense, sorry, it's like saying, they didn't protect against the square root of 64 being 8.
The NIST attempt to make a "quantum" algorithm to compete with SHA, which was most likely a weak DS attempt, failed laughably when it was cracked with a run of the mill PC.
Quantum computers deal with fuzzy logic, they are really, really bad at precise, algebraic calculations. They are very good at modelling organic structures. -
Quantum computer----> computer that grows from the ground and uses static electricity
-
Or photosynthesis
-
That would be cool 😎

-

-
Need a quantum analog computer right?
-
for wot
-
Is that a thing?
-
There are mechanical integrators and such and the ancient greeks had analog computers for calculating the movement of the stars
-
Not sure if that’s what you mean
-
Hey what could totally wipe out bitcoin in the blink of an eye. A solar flare. Or any sort of technology that mimicks the behavior of a solar flare
-
biggest problem with digital currency IMO
-
Maybe the ai can build small analog quantum computers to solve specific problems

quantum computers are not analog in the traditional sense, they represent a different paradigm of computing that is distinct from both digital and analog computers
analog computers, on the other hand, process information using continuous signals, often representing physical quantities like voltages, currents, or rotations -
-
instead of using digital or analog signals, they use qubits, which can exist in a superposition of states (both 0 and 1 simultaneously). this allows them to perform certain calculations much more efficiently than classical computers (both digital and analog). quantum computers also rely on quantum gates, which are operations that manipulate qubits in ways that are fundamentally different from classical logic gates
-
-
-
-
Went to the toy store today
-
2. set up the problem: change the problem we want to solve (like breaking a secret code) into a form that the quantum computer can understand. this is like giving the computer a set of instructions to follow (thisnis where digital ai will help a lot)
-
3. use the quantum computer to run shor's algorithm, which is a special set of steps that helps the computer solve the problem much faster than a regular computer could
-
-
4. after the quantum computer finishes running the algorithm, it gives us the answer to the problem. this answer can help us break the secret code by finding the hidden key
-
5. with the hidden key, we can now read secret messages, pretend to be someone else, or do other things that were supposed to be kept secret by the code
-
elaborated:
after running the algorithm, the quantum computer provides the solution to the factoring or discrete logarithm problem. in the case of rsa, this would be the prime factors of the modulus, allowing an attacker to derive the private key. in the case of elliptic curve cryptography, the attacker would obtain the discrete logarithm, which is the private key itself when attacking the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ecdsa) -

What about quantum simulators? Where do they fit?
-
-

quantum simulators come into play as an intermediate step between classical computers and full-scale quantum computers. they are designed to simulate the behavior of a quantum system using classical hardware or limited-scale quantum hardware

Are there any wallets that split your BTC between 100 private keys (or more)? That way if by some stroke of bad luck your private key is guessed, you only lose 1% of your wealth. It's like insurance but you don't have to pay some dirty company that owns skyrises and sponsors the super bowl
-
so they will need to fix their flawed code
-
The odds of that are very very unlikely

The token has a max supply of 108,624,000, and can be minted in batches of 420 tokens per inscription. Inscriptions are 2 TXs. So to mint this thing all the way out will be 517,257 tx's 😂😂😂 -
