If you collect traditional collectibles like coins or books you’re doing a lot more than owning them and storing them in the basement. You learn everything there is to know about them and why they’re valuable, you have a specific and autistic theme to your collecting (for example, coins with a particular scratch or whatever), you organize and display them accordingly. Crypto collectibles collecting doesn’t seem very much like actual collecting. Just hoarding a bunch of random rares that you like for whatever reason.
The first point is not applicable, because there’s nothing particularly interesting to know. Themes are possible (a few are obvious: Putin, Groyper, gold), but in general what they have in common is either too common (pepe) or you have to be really creative. To find these themes, you basically have to go through RPD etc, and manually write down asset names. This without the pictures, so you forget why you selected them instantly. There’s no way to conveniently move around and categorize collectibles (that you own and don’t own). If you could drag and drop cards to a named collection (with the ones you don’t own greyed), then it would be much simpler to create and adjust the theme, and maybe eventually move them to a dedicated address. This can probably be done without private keys, but it would be best if it was a wallet feature. Mafia Wars has at least introduced some kind of categorization.
Once you have your collection, there’s no good way to display them. If you have all the Putins you’d want a simple way of showing them (and only them) off on social media (including that they belong to some particular address. RPW has the rare.estate/address feature, but for some reason it is completely hidden from the user, you can only show off your entire hoard with no control over the order of presentation, and it’s not embeddable.
I don’t think crypto collectibles are complete without a real life solution. If you own some cards that are worth doing this with, you should be able to easily set up a display case or wall screen using dedicated smartphones, pads, and such (think digital picture frames) to actually show off your most interesting rares to visiting normies. [Stacey [vocal fry]]: “Umm why do you have a picshure of like a white dude riding a green pooping horse?” [You]: “That’s MYLITTLEPEPE you stupid bitch. Did you know that it’s ackshually worth 420 THOUSAND PEPECASH?!”. This would require a simple app that let you display rares from an address you can scan a QR code of a signed message. This would primarily be something for the whales, and I’d love to see pictures of their arrangements, but it would be somewhat feasible for more average collections to some extent. If the whales aren’t interested in anything like this at all then they simply don’t deserve to be whales. If we don’t do this are we not admitting that rares are not fitting for adult company?
