So I’d be keen to hear what others might think about this concept… I think it could be really significant for market attention and value is if a ‘mother of all’ Pepe bonfire burning date was selected and heavily promoted….
(Eg. Could be set for 9/9/21 marking the 5 year anniversary of the Nakamoto RarePepe release - or even 12 months away to further build the anticipation…)

On this single date all active RarePepe artists/creators/owners that still hold a very large number of their created card chose to burn a very large % them - thus making the asset rare (ie. only applies to those that were released in large issuances eg 100+ or perhaps up to 300+?… although others may want to reduce their supply to even lower…).

Perhaps the RarePepe Scientists could even reassemble just once more to endorse and oversee this history making event…

I feel this would draw enormous market attention - and you could imagine the sudden market interest in buying up any Pepe they can ahead of the burning… and the Counterparty exposure achieved… (haha and sudden PepeCash interest too!)

I’ve gone back and forth in my mind on the topic of burning. I know it technically makes it more rare but I just don’t get the same feeling. When I grabbed for example a twoweekspepe I thought to my self “haha nice” but when I saw a pepepope hit the dex with a 100k pepecash ask I thought “holy shit” and literally put my car on autopilot, turned my phone’s hotspot on, opened my laptop and bought it immediately while going 80 down the 15 in SoCal. Actually kind of a funny story looking back. I was bored and would hit refresh on xchain orders page every once in a while.

Maybe a better example is myladypepe. I’ve seen it come up for auction and it’s rare given that 93/100 were burned but it just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe I’m just weird. I perceive it as a 100 issuance card that someone destroyed a bunch of as opposed to a low issuance rare

Yeah, fair enough. There are just some Pepes with zillions of issuances, and in my view this will always keep their value very low. Economics 101 is that value (whether it be digital or physical assets) will always fundamentally be determined by the market forces of supply and demand. So even when (and it will come) the market does give RarePepes their due recognition the ones that aren’t ‘rare’ will not attributed as high a value.

I like the idea of burning Pepe’s to create 1 of 1 Pepe’s. The more you sacrifice, the rarer they are, the rarer the traits and the lower the issuance number.

All these current 1 of 1s come from nothing. 1 of 1s that can only be generated and be certified rare based on the pepe’s sacrifice is really cool to me.

A 1 of 1 that can only originate from originals.

It could bring a goldrush of Pepe buyers so they can initiate sacrifices.

BOTTLING
Lock numeric asset after the distilling period, the bottle is then capped and creation process is complete. The rare spirits are ready and available to send or sell.

Conversely, in a market with global demand, issuances of 100 or less will be so unobtainable that they will not be sought after or be very liquid.

I think for these to be rare artefacts of high value, that is the sort of issuance that’s required. Collectively, that would still a lot of Pepes available (ie even at at 100 issuance it would be over 170,000 or at 300 over 500,000).
I think the very large issuance numbers coupled with what is a large number of RarePepe cards can serve to dilute value and interest.
A reduction in supply would probably also ensure the market comes to put greater value on all the cards, not just the early series ones.
Just my thoughts.

if you apply this scale to Rarepepe cards, should be similar, just with less zeros in price and more zeros in supply^^

I believe that todays discussion has brought up a very valid point which is that the RarePepe market is limited considerably by information asymmetry

IMO:

1) arguing about issuance is seemingly pointless. The set closed in 2018 and what's there is there.
1a) if someone sends Pepes to a burn address, it's burnt. Its just how XCP protocol works.
2) Part of the alure here is that some cards, like the 1/1's, are simply unobtainable. One card Looney burned all of them for some ETH/hack reason I don't understand. Some have huge issuances. It's just what a bunch of nerds did with no thought, kinda like Doge but with more wit.
3) More info would help awareness. I would love to read through a wiki of all the shenanigans that happened, the little stories behind each card. This community would love to write it too I think.
4) Back to issuances, a lot of these wallets are never going to be seen again, including some huge ones. Circulation is far less than issuance.
5) the "Rareness score" or "Pepe Days Destroyed" (great name) could be a great metric. When ~77% of issuance is still in the issuing address and the address hasn't had a send in 4 years, those cards could essentially be taken out of the equation.

so the best assumption that we can make is that the address is "dead"

and that address is more than 50% of the supply

This sounds really good, I think a well presented rarity score/ranking will do wonders to held broader interest and adoption.

Also then solves the large supply perception issues so that wouldn’t require burning.

It’d be great if the consolidated rarity score could capture various attributes of value…. But this might require more subjective assessment than just ‘supply count (but in reality I think the assessment of value does go beyond supply)’.
Could be a job for the Scientists..? - but I get the sense that beyond acceptance or rejection the scientists have not wished to place any value judgements…

A friend and I had discussed this a little while ago and distilled the following thoughts re an assessment framework of sorts:

Historical significance score =
(Eg image has references to significant historical event/person, creator well known artist, first Gif RarePepe, 1st Audio connected asset, sold at 1st recorded cryptoart auction etc)

If only related to supply, the score/ranking may still lack much differentiation on the vast sum of Pepes.
