Some of you guys use Premiere to create your gifs I hear...
So when I do it, I start with a quicktime in the project source bin, drag it over to the timeline, set the render range, and tell it to NOT create an image sequence (maybe one of the dumbest defaults ever).
Then the media encoder gives me a still of the first frame.
Not animated.
What pray tell am I missing!!???

each frame is an img.
With a number pad.
I usually use img sequences, for compositing vfx. Very convenient too.
But I do not want 60 or 80 individual gif imgs each a still.
Id rather have ONE gif that plays all the frames.
