as for Counterparty's built in escrow function, we call that the Dex

Counterparty Dex allows buy and sell orders to be posted

Assets bid / asked go into protocol escrow

so you can put up a sell order and your asset goes into the digital protocol escrow void (disappears from your wallet) until sold or the order expires and it returns
