Buying with XCP and PEPECASH is fully trustless in the Counterparty protocol. You cannot lose your tokens with a Dex buy. If someone beats you to it, Counterparty will just open a Buy order instead, which you can cancel to get your funds back.
Dispensers on the other hand can be double-bought, possibly resulting in lost BTC if the seller doesn't realise, or is unwilling to return BTC, or in a few cases, is a bad actor who waits to see incoming BTC then closes the dispenser with a higher fee and keeps the BTC. -
