Compose Send
Composes a transaction to send a quantity of an asset to another address. -
What does the result of this API mean?
-
Does it mean that the sending was successful?
-
It seems there isn’t an API like "broadcast."
-
just wondering about a Bobo search on tokenscan.io, why is it when you search Bobo it comes up with 36 pages but there seems to be only 10 as pages 11 to 36 are shown as no records found. this is on both classic and 2.0
-
That is a tokenscan.io specific paging issue. It was fixed in the BTNS explorer at BTNS.xchain.io, however, the fix has not been pulled back to tokenscan.io yet as my focus has been building elsewhere.
I’ll work to get this fixed in the coming weeks, as paging being broken on some pages, has been a lingering issue for years.
Thank you for drawing my attention to this 👍🏻
I would reply to you from my @BrrrGuy account, but I continue to be muted in this channel🤷🏻♂️ -
-
FYI - just before you play around with BTNS. BTNS is not Counterparty although the codebase is largely a copy-paste the counterparty codebase - it's another network with a separate protocol prefix by JDog. Assets on Xchain are separate from Counterparty and not accessible by Counterparty users.
-
No one is telling him to use BTNS, I was simply referencing that his issue is one that I am aware of, which has been fixed elsewhere, and I will work to resolve his specific issue in the future.
As usual , thank you for going out of your way to try to steer people away from my products, and discredit anything I do, even directly answering users questions about problems🤷🏻♂️
I expect nothing less from you Vector😂
Hope you get outside and touch some grass today 😊 -
thanks for your response, Jeremy! just let me know if I said anything inaccurate.
-
Sure, you said inaccurate stuff like BTNS is just a copy of counterparty, as BTNS has more features than counterparty (LIST, AIRDROP, MINT, BATCH, CALLBACK, RUG, SLEEP).
But as you so clearly pointed out BTNS is not counterparty, and as this is a counterparty specific developer channel, I don’t feel it is appropriate to discuss the differences between the platforms here further.
As always, thanks for being so helpful and unbiased🤣😂🤷🏻♂️ -
Sorry, maybe I misunderstood this from your github page: "BTNS-420 was copied, almost entirely, from the existing Counterparty platform features."
-
In any case, this conversation is probably better suited to the BTNS telegram development chats.

Is Joe looney kicking around in here ?! Don’t see any one mysterious or asthetic in here ?
I’ve got a question about rare pepe wallet mints ?!

It kindof seems like if you mint on rare pepe wallet that the asset is locked in some kinda fo mysterious force field that makes it unchangeable to at least the non wizards in the group
I probably need a special powers sog card to unlock it lol 😂 -
IMO all wallets should be open source 🤷🏻♂️
Also, website based wallets always run the risk of being hacked, which is why I dont really trust them much…. A hacker could get into the website and tweak the code that users are using to do nefarious things like update to send btc to the hacker when a tx is done instead of returning BTC to the users “change” address, or leaking the 12 word passphrase to the hacker.
When I was running the counterwallet servers I was always nervous about the servers being hacked, which is why the only thing that ran on the counterwallet servers when they were under my control was counterwallet itself.
IMO open source wallets that you can install on your mobile phone or desktop or browser extension, where the code cannot be updated without the user deciding to update the Wallet code/version, is a much more secure way of doing things than trusting your wallet and funds to a wallet website’s security.
Not intending to throw shade in anyone’s direction, just pointing out some of the hazards of using wallets, which are not open source, and/or which run on web servers that can be hacked. 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻 -
I agree and that's why I prefer having a website connecting to a web browser extension.
No need to reinvent the wheel if there is already dozens of available bitcoin wallets -
-
“2 weeks”🤷🏻♂️😜
-
Downloading precompiled binaries isn’t much safer - and running outdated software is also not a great idea security-wise!
-
True there is a bit of risk with running pre-compiled binary, but it seems to be pretty much an industry standard since the only people that compile their own code are devs. I’d venture to say 90 to 95% of all people running bitcoin nodes have simply downloaded the pre-compiled binaries from trusted source🤷🏻♂️
-
It does kinda spooky me that the wallet is chillin on my browser and passwords are saved there too
Kinda spooky I won’t maybe have much on there ?!
Has there been any attempts that anyone knows ? -
How long until freewallet gets a browser extension?
-
XCP had a chrome extension written by Joe Looney called XCP wallet all the way back in 2015…. Unfortunately, It never got much use and most people preferred to use counterwallet and other alternatives at the time indiesquare, FreeWallet, etc., And personally, I’m not really a fan of chrome extension wallets as I believe users should be able to view the content associated with their wallet addresses in their wallet, and that’s pretty difficult when you have to cram everything into a tiny browser extension window…… Also all the MetaMask scamming and such as kind of giving me a bad taste in my mouth for chrome extension wallets🤷🏻♂️
-
Not everything is a personal attack vector….. two weeks is a well-known meme in the counterparty space🤷🏻♂️
-
Off to yoga and beach meditation now…. Hope everyone has a great day.😊👍🏻
-
Don’t mean to misinterpret your lighthearted comment, I know you’re rooting for horizon. Enjoy!
-
Metamask and Unisat both implemented an Expanded view option, which solves the ´tiny extension window’ problem
-
So does TheStampWallet
-
Had to double check. Still available on the Google Chrome Store. And pwa mobile active.
-
Also OpenSource, code is on github
-
I only use Metamask once in a while, just to get to Polymarket and place a bet on some hot topic.
But I've found the Metamask user experience is so smooth it's almost at a level where you could onboard large number of normies —- mass adoption getting close. -
I wish cp wallets would be so smooth !
-
-
Metamask is painful
-
-
-
-
Haven't tried it but I'll give it a go.
Things don't seem to be going well for ETH these days in general.
OTOH all of the other "faster and cheaper" L1s seem rather centralized. - 05 November 2024 (5 messages)

Correct me if i am wrong but Freewallet is only slightly safer than Counterwallet was.
FW is an improvement in that your keys/seed stay on your device. Bitcoins cannot be stolen by a dishonest server.
FW does rely on blind signing of the CNTRPRTY message tho. A dishonest server can steal all your assets. Eg you want to send 1 TOKENX to A. The server returns a CNTRPRTY message that sweeps all your assets to the attacker's address instead. There are no sanity checks in FW that prevent this.
(If i am wrong, please excuse me. If someone wants to build sanity checks for FW, a good starting point might be my Electrum XCP github repo.) -
your electrum github repo is a master lesson on counterparty sir
-
FreeWallet like every other counterparty wallet that I am aware of relies on the counterparty API to generate transactions, which are then signed in the wallet.
This is how counterparty has operated since its inception. If this was not the case, then every time a protocol change was made, then wallets would need to update their software that generated transactions, and we would be in a much bigger mess than we are currently.
Counterwallet, indiesquare wallet, book of orbs, xcp.ninja, toucan, Freeport, XCP wallet, FreeWallet, AND Horizon all rely on the counterparty API to generate transactions, which are then signed in the wallet. -
I did write a counterparty transaction decoder, which is used in the case of signing a raw transaction, copied and pasted into FreeWallet to let the user review that the transaction that is generated does what is expected…. But I have not integrated this check into transactions that are generated by the counterparty API in Freewallet, as Freewallet always uses trusted counterparty nodes to generate its transactions.
https://github.com/jdogresorg/BTNS-Decoder/blob/master/xcp.js
You are correct though, and if someone used the counterparty API on a dishonest or hacked node, that server could pass back a transaction which does not do what the user is expecting, and that transaction would be signed and broadcast. This is a vulnerability that every wallet in the counterparty space has.
In the entire history of counterparty, I am unaware of any counterparty API servers being hacked and generating bad transactions, but you are correct, this is an attack vector that every counterparty wallet it has, and the only solution to it would be to have a standardized set of libraries that would generate the counterparty transactions in Wallet…
John Villar and I discussed this attack vector in the past, and even had started work writing a standardized JavaScript library to handle generating counterparty transactions
https://github.com/chiguireitor/xcpjsv2BTNS-Decoder/xcp.js at master · jdogresorg/BTNS-DecoderBroadcast Token Naming System (BTNS) Transaction Decoder - jdogresorg/BTNS-Decoder
-
Very much agree, JPs code does a very good job of encoding and decoding counterparty transactions, and has been referenced by many wallets.
I even made note of this and gave credit to JP in the above linked decoder library that I wrote, as JP‘s code was very helpful in its creation 👍🏻 - 06 November 2024 (7 messages)

GM! What happens if I update the description of a token with a locked supply and include additional tokens in a new issuance? Will the description update, or will it be ignored?
-
Fafo!
-
You shouldn’t be able to issue more tokens if it’s locked
-
My question was whether the description will be updated or not
-
If the token supply is already locked and the issuance tries to issue supply, then the issuance will be deemed as invalid since you cannot issue additional supply once the token is locked. Since the insurance will be considered invalid, the description will not be updated.
At least, that that’s how it has worked for the past 10+ years on counterparty… given all the new changes to how things function in counterparty 2.0 I’m not sure if that is still the case. 🤷🏻♂️ -
sure would be nice if developers of the counterparty 2.0 platform gave responses in the developer channel which has been used for many years by the dev community to ask questions🤷🏻♂️
-
Thanks! Sorry for the lame question, but if I wanted to construct a Counterparty op_return to update the description of an asset with a locked supply, should I set the supply to 0 for the transaction to be considered valid?
-
if you’re using FreeWallet, you can just choose edit description. If you’re wanting to create a transaction in a different wallet, or via the API, then yes, you should set the supply to zero, and change the description to whatever you want the description to be

fairmints.io is in synch

got to love decentralization. more then one systems online

its the same banner that CP has been using for a couple years man

firemints.xyz is also current block

LOL... firemints.xyz is prolly not using counterparty-core to keep things up....

explorer.unspendablelabs.com is down, as are CP nodes

ok...

but counterparty is online fine

but hey... you guys keep believing all is fine and there is no problem... tired of arguing over this nonsense... just reporting what is being seen. gnight

Yes it's a banner I created and allowed CP to use. And I don't want that fake CP to use it
-
I like stamps

The amount of nonsense you guys support is baffling... one site is up firemints, and you claim all is fine... meanwhile, rest of community down, no one able to generate txs, and even the core devs explorer is down

thats one system. might need a reset

keep sticking your head in the sand... gnight... wake me when they put out yet another emergency hotfix release... cuz "all is fine" 😂️️️️️️

Yup... all is fine... totally normal for CP to start up, choke on a tx, then shut down 🤷️️️️️️

Wake up to a hot fix. At least it's attended to.

oh wait, I thought it was just one system... now the story changes... ridiculous how much you guys shift the narratives to suit yourselves

I just minted and they reflected.

So. Whatever it is. It'll be attended to.

One system. Or a hot fix.

one system... tokenscan, api.counterparty.io, explorer.unspendablelabs.com... yep, all is fine.. I know your a CP 2.0 supporter, and that is fine, but stop saying bullshit just cuz you dont like the truth... YES they will wake up and put out a hofix release... but again, its not some minor issue... CP has been stable for many years, and now its down pretty consistently... this is not what ppl expect from a crypto network/platform... but whatevah 🤷️️️️️️
-
i'll STFU in here now... cuz dont wanna get muted... not sure anyone else would be finding / reporting the issues like downtime and such 🤷️️️️️️

Why not switch to rust?

I'm not asking your opinion Jdog @BrrrGuy @ChiefSamyaza on if you can keep the banner or not. I'm not giving the fake account the right to use it and that's all.

Probably Evan or Adam. But the Counterparty docs should be enough

yep... def annoying to have the "upgraded" version of counterparty constantly crashing and requiring node operators to keep updating every few days.... not just annoying, there is a cost associated with all this downtime... Great that your having fun building your mint site, I support you doing what you want... but others who have been in this space for a long time are getting frustrated with all this downtime and feature loss and drama.... You might think it is just me, but I can assure you it is not just me... point and case @yodark runs SoG and has real support costs associated with any downtime... @kanemayfield decided not to release his album on Counterparty due to the loss of features... activity has dropped off considerably... again, glad your having fun building, and that your support 2.0... but your not the only one using the network
-
cool... maybe talk about the issue here so other devs are aware... or mention the github issue with the temp fix in the counterparty channel... or here... or maybe when others say bullshit like "its just one server that is down"... dont be silent and speak up and link to the github issue... since you had the issue take your server down, and have a potential fix, and see someone saying something which is untrue..... but, I guess more convenient to sit back and let me be the bad guy and let ppl say there is no issue and make it seem like i'm just causing problems.

@Counterparty_OG The ledgers did not differ until block 866,002 when the first fairmint occurred. Here's evidence of that by comparing the ledgers at 866,001. You are the one forking away from 434e545250525459.
-
My response to jdog forking Counterparty
-
He's been misleading people to believe that dispensers have been removed completely
-
I've had to correct a number of people who thought that was the case.
-
It's ridiculous to then have to explain, no, you just can no longer open it up on a new address in one transaction.
-
It made sense to include the protocol changing update along with the others
-
I guess forking is better than just hosting old versions of the software though. That just opened the door to big scams potentially. People can understand this fork more intuitively.
-
Again, many people have been misled to believe that all Counterparty tokens have already been doubled, which is not true.
-
-
Sorry - I forget my voice doesn't count
-
NOPE! IMO votes on code is not the way... votes are easy to game... consensus is the way forward, even if it is hard, all good things are hard...
I DO NOT want to participate in a project where non-technical people have ANY say over what technical features/fixes get pushed... Leave the tech stuff to tech guys who understand it to push code.... Communities job is to discuss ideas and issues and make it clear their intentions/desires... Coders job is to figure out how to implement communities wishes in a technical way... We want more devs on CP... but we DO NOT want more noobs saying "hey, have you tried doing X" and suggesting features to devs that have already been tried... ALL approaches should be discussed, but, IMO devs time is wasted having non-technical conversations again and again trying to relate "code-level logic" and "been there, tried that logic" to normies. At the end of the day, it really comes down to a few people making the call for what is "right" for the community... yes we listen to the community, but you guys defer to us tech ppl for a reason... 🙂 -
and here I thought this chat was for dev related focus... you got a whole chat room to rant about me without any objections... take your drama there bro.. i'm sure you'll have a more captive audience... Keep this place for discussions on code and issues 🤷️️️️️️

since PSBT is not an account based system, would it be possible to make a stand alone token code? I mean, is it possible to make a text string that can be broadcast or somesuch so that a token gets added to the users wallet who unlocks it?
it was implemented in rarepepewallet.com and mafiawars.io, the coupon code was basically a self sending wallet, or similar. I chatted with @hodlencoinfield about bringing it to the protocol. But maybe it would be more practical now? -
Hi friends. Excuse me. Is there a minimum price amount in sats for a dispenser?

It is a subtle thing; you can create a dispenser on an address and set any price in btc you want; however, a user will not be able to trigger a dispense that is below the dust limit 600 sats
