I mean, let's say that I buy 1 CROPS for $1000. Is there any chance that I will get back even a fraction of than money in a 5 year period? I understand that buying CROPS is not an investment. But still, buying a rare pepe you can sell it at any point. What about purchacing CROPS assets?

at least playing clicking games there is an excitement (the clicking think), and when not playing, the game continues in an idle mode. Hence you can come back to check, make some clicks more, upgrade some staff to earn more profit etc.... there is a sort of entertainment and interest. The outcome of the game, depends on my actions and how offend I check to upgrade my staff.
In your approach, I just put some money, and just wait 4 times per year to receive some dividends (which I already know how much it will be from the begging). There is no interaction, anything that I can do about it. If those 100 CROPS sold out (let’s say in 1 week), I would already know the outcome of the leaderboards after 5 years.
tl;dr what’s really the point of putting money in something that 1)does not really entertains you 2) there is no point of getting even $1 back of the money that you put in -
