Homeland is a very interesting show, which I recommend viewers watch, and which comes on Showtime. I am posting this video under The Fair Use Doctrine, for purpose of literary and critical analysis, in this case, I highly recommend the show, which can be seen on The Showtime Network. The show features an ongoing story-ark dealing with issues of national security, terrorism, spying, hacking, and other things, snatched from the headlines of current events. The show, follows the protagonist, Carrie Matheson, who I would describe as an anti-hero, as well as several other major characters from the Intelligence Community. The show involves various persons within the Intelligence Community, trying to thwart attacks from foreign entities, terrorist organizations and various criminal enterprises, in an attempt to keep the United States, its allies, and ultimately, populations around the world, safe from harm. So the story plots feature investigations, action sequences, interactions with informants, assets, etc. Each episode during the course of the various seasons is a continual reveal of that particular season's main story, with very interesting plots, twists, turns, surprises, etc. I would definitely say the show includes elements of mystery, drama and is a thriller as well, but then other parts will play out as a police procedural or will involve trying to build profiles of the various antagonists and reveal who they are (if they are hidden) or who is helping them, so there are elements of double and even sometimes, triple agents, betrayal, etc. Homeland is able to take relevant topics and controversies from the real world, from racial/religious profiling, to illustrating differences between liberal/moderate religious notions and those held by extremist, to critiques of the drone program, secret prisons, torture, all the different things we read about in the headlines, are featured on the show. And ultimately, in my opinion, in many areas, the show presents both sides, then leaves it up to viewers to make their own decision, so Homeland has some nuances, and even in episodes which seem to maybe slant in favor or against a particular notion, I have found there is at least the presentation or implicit representation of the contrary view or position. This particular episode illustrates the use of sockpuppets-fake profiles, where you will have say one person, with dozens, hundreds, perhaps, thousands of profiles, who flood the internet with "outrage, "drive the "trending"stories up on Twitter or other social media, trying to influence and shape public opinion-but IMPORTANTLY-the actions are rooted in deception, because again, it is not John from Alaska, it is really-for example, Paul from Wisconsin, who has many other profiles of various races, ethnic backgrounds, gender, etc...who is attempting to make you think-"oh, its not one lone voice, wow, there are so many people with this view, maybe I should listen to it." That is the critical part. I think it is great Homeland, featured this concept in the show. But, Homeland usually features many interesting concepts, some before they are well known publicly(so the show is not just entertainment, it seeks to inform as well in my opinion), and this is just one example, and so I think its a great show, which I highly recommend. Hopefully, this brief and limited video clip will create more interest in the show, which airs on Showtime, on Sundays. (check your local listings) This clip comes from a Season 6, Episode 9, called Sockpuppets. Another term would be a BOT operation, where false users are set up or computers are used to simulate real people, and this is why you see so many web pages ask for verification that you are "human"-in an attempt to stop this sort of activity. Ironically, Homeland, though it is an entertainment/fictional show, provides a great birds-eye view, for example, into how various operatives were able to troll certain political campaigns in key battleground states, manipulate public opinion by planting and then spreading false news, etc. I also hope this small clip…
