Selling for BTC on the exchange doesn't work so well. Whoever was buying XCP needs to have their wallet open to approve the BTC send. They have 20 blocks to do so, otherwise you'll get the XCP back.

You should be able to use your 12 words in freewallet. Counterparty uses a different word set than the Bitcoin passphrases, since it predates the BIP.

I would say, don't list buy orders for BTC and/or don't sell into them.
I think it works pretty well when selling a token for BTC. It just takes an extra block to complete the order. -
