You know what would work well for this?... As the site uses bootstrap, just hook the historic images into a carousel... But rather than a sliding carousel you have them fade, that would give you an 'animated' history of sorts

Another way you could do an interesting UI thing with that is with a before/after swiper and as you pull from one direction to the other it exposes the next frame underneath.
