What was done with JOLLYROGER and a handful of others was the prototype of what was to come later with NFTs.

It was all experimental... Nobody who was making tokens back then thought any of this would someday be desireable as collectible. We were just doing it because we heard it could be done and wanted to try it out for ourselves.
Spiller happened to hit upon a winning formula with JOLLYROGER, but it wasn't a "winning formula" until 7 years later. And kudos to him for that. If he had never thought to experiment, it would have never happened. -

If I had been interested in Dogecoin from a purely speculative standpoint, I wouldn't have burned close to 500k of them to make XDP to experiment.

NFT is just a buzzword that people can get behind, and its easier to label something as that so the average person can begin to grasp what they actually are. -
The Quantum image on Namecoin is certainly cool, but its not an NFT. This is why JOLLYROGER is a big deal: because it is an _actual_ token (though fungible) with an image file attached from a still-functioning URL.

I don't nitpick if people call Dogeparty tokens with a > 1-of-1 supply "NFTs", because its a small, technical detail... but it has to at least be an actual token. And actual tokens aren't subject to expiration dates.
The Namecoin stuff is cool and interesting, but it is far from being NFTs, IMHO. -

Mentioned it once or twice, though maybe not in this channel, but I had a grand idea for NFL Super Bowl wagering where people could buy tokens at prices set by their odds of winning the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season.
Then whoever held the winning team token after the conclusion of the Super Bowl could cash it in via the DEX for a share of the total pot of BTC collected during token sales.
The main problem is the entire system relied upon people trusting me to deliver my promise and not just take off with the prize money. -
So, nobody bought any 😅 also for the reason that the overlap between NFL fans and experimental crypto nerds is quite slim

Theoretically people could trade the team tokens for BTC, XCP or even other team tokens over the course of the year as their values would change according to how well the team was performing.
But the idea was way ahead of the crowd available to support it, still is w/o marketing or the consent of the NFL... -
The upside is I still possess all the tokens... just don't know what to do with 'em. I made the DP version of BENGALS into a NFT and sold some right before this year's Super Bowl, because they were one of the teams playing in it. And because its also the Year of the Tiger.

1/N NFTs are as good collectibles as 1/1 NFTs. Just another category (and an unfortunate term since 1/Ns are not non-fungible). BACKPACK and JOLLYROGER are very significant. Happy to have these on Dogeparty.
Namecoins are a different story. Risky bcs the original creator can come around and say the reissued name is illegitimate. And make their own token on another platform to represent the original. As happened with quantum. An ongoing war of narrative. -

It's not risky because in the case of Quantum, the original minted asset was left to expire and the creator sold a representative asset. The original is the original and no future claim can harm the provenance. The owner can claim as much as he like that the older asset is illegitimate and it still won't be so.

Well, it is feasible so long as you are targeting the <40 y.o. crowd, generally speaking.
I have a friend who is a big time Garbage Pail Kids collector and it was Topps releasing GPK NFTs on WAX that lured him into crypto.
He met stiff resistance trying to lure the older heads in, though occasionally some will follow. -
You will assuredly run into a lot of the "bahhh NFTs and crypto is a scam" types, but not so much at a crypto convention
