did the new version add the option to disable "use unconfirmed utxos?", if so where is it?

    - just tested a easyasset description on a subasset again with the new vers with same effective fee rate issue
  • @jdogresorg #6878 12:04 AM, 01 Mar 2024
only thing in this new version is a fix for an issue with counting txs in the ADS... no fee adjustments... same exact fee estimation as last release...
  • @jdogresorg #6879 12:05 AM, 01 Mar 2024
and "effective fee rate" is related to your previous txs
  • @jdogresorg #6880 12:05 AM, 01 Mar 2024
"fee rate" is what wallet shows... no way to calculate "effective fee rate" without knowing all the previous pending txs, their fees, etc
  • @jdogresorg #6881 12:06 AM, 01 Mar 2024
when I do a tx in freewallet and it says 21 sats/vb... that is waht it is showing in the tx.
  • ADS?
  • @jdogresorg #6883 12:07 AM, 01 Mar 2024
ADS stands for the optional Automatic Donation System (ADS) that is included in freewallet to help fund development and server operating expenses.

    mentioned before...

a common artist or user after many tx's on a single address (especially when using older versions of FW) will have to consolidate their UTXO's and many of us use Electrum to do so....... but even if they use Electrum and consolidate all the tx's that can be seen by the block explorers and seen by electrum and verifying they are working with 1 input on electrum as well as block explorers.,,

using freewallet to do asset description changes seems to be the only case a user will run into this effective fee rate issue. I've seen Sasha, Degenna, Porkchop just to name a few that fun into this frequently (and VERY recently with new version)....

and mentioned before you said using Electrum will not be good enough and might have to use a node to get all those super low (unseen on block explorers and electrum) unconfirmed tx's to consolidate....

since most users wont be running a node anytime soon... could getting the feature you mentioned that will enable the user to disable "use unconfirmed utxo's"' for this specific purpose when using the longform easy asset descriptions?

it is very very common artists broadcast this specific tx and have it be too low of a fee rate because of how many possible failed attempts have happened before on their address from previous versions.... Maybe a checkbox on Asset Description popup? or a setting in the settings somewhere?
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #6585 #6890 12:19 AM, 01 Mar 2024
the seeing these low unconfirmed tx's in a node vs electrum is noted here...

at the moment even when a user see's 1 input - they have to raise the fee rate for the next broadcast attempt by a manner of percentage after the first failed attempt (and doing the math from that)
  • @jdogresorg #6891 02:17 AM, 01 Mar 2024
yeah... I can add that "confirmed utxos" option in freewallet... it'll still be defaulted to on, but not tough to add... will work on it now
  • @jdogresorg #6892 02:17 AM, 01 Mar 2024
maybe just wrap it into this release 😛
  • @jdogresorg #6895 03:21 AM, 01 Mar 2024

  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #6895 #6896 04:26 AM, 01 Mar 2024
just consolidated my UTXO's with Electrum and tried again with the "Only Confirmed" option and still had the same effective fee rate issue :(

will test more... for anyone who is interested - in my experience consolidating UTXO's with Electrum will also auto CPFP the previous unconfirmed tx... so anybody in my position can do that to clean up the tx with too small an effective fee rate
  • @davesta #6897 04:41 AM, 01 Mar 2024

    Hello everybody :)
and hi davesta! thanks again for your help in the counterparty chat :)
So i am pretty new to the btc stuff and counterparty and so on.
I hope you can forgive me for a possible very stupid question.
  • @618381254 #6946 05:20 PM, 04 Mar 2024
I won a counterparty asset ( spell of genesis card ) and was asked for my wallet address.
They listed the addresses they support (P2PKH starting with 1, P2SH starting with 3 and bech32 starts with bc1)
  • @618381254 #6947 05:20 PM, 04 Mar 2024
I gave them my address starting with a 3 so P2SH.

Where i am now: I have a xverse wallet with an address starting with a 3. Xverse does not support counterparty.
I looked at the counterparty website and it seems no wallet listed there does support P2SH wallets/addresses?
  • @618381254 #6948 05:20 PM, 04 Mar 2024
davesta pointed me to the freewallet FAQ on github and i found a part which says:
"I sent/dispensed an XCP asset to a Wrapped Segwit Address (address beginning with "3"). What can I do?"

So this does not fit 100% on my because i received it.
  • @618381254 #6949 05:20 PM, 04 Mar 2024
    Does anyone know:
A wallet supporting counterwallet with my 3... address?
A way i can maybe send the card to a better address or wallet or whatever?

Or in the end should i contact the SENDER to apply the workaround written in the FAQ?

Thank you so much everybody! Any help appreciated
  • @618381254 #6950 05:36 PM, 04 Mar 2024
I hope you understand what i mean 🙈
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #6948 #6951 06:16 PM, 04 Mar 2024
what is written in the FAQ still applies even though you received it in this situation:

"At the moment on a protocol level, Wrapped Segwit Addresses (or addresses beginning with "3") are supported by Counterparty but Freewallet does not support signing those transactions at this time.

Another developer by the name of JP Janssen (JPJA) had devloped an OP_Return builder for Wrapped Segwit addresses, but at the moment this is experimental and it is recommended to get into contact with JPJA to better help experiment with the process.

If you find yourself in a situation that an XCP asset has been sent to a Wrapped Segwit Address and you are looking to access this token, it would be best at this time to wait until a further release of Freewallet that supports Wrapped Segwit Addresses so they can be used for all Counterparty functions."

  • @davesta #6954 06:16 PM, 04 Mar 2024
but just takes a bit of technical knowledge and i havent tested it myself
  • @davesta #6955 06:17 PM, 04 Mar 2024
as for waiting for the protocol to upgrade and then to have Freewallet support it.... we will have to wait for future protocol releases from the XCP team

  • @jdogresorg #7013 07:57 PM, 06 Mar 2024
try it out a bit on testnet... if your able to produce a step by step confirmation that its not working, and log it into an issue, i'll take a look at it when I have some time... AFAIK BTCpay and Auto-BTCpay should be working.... something new I guess COULD have broken the functionality, but none of the updates jump out at me as something that would effect Auto-BTCpay.... being able to test, find a reproducible test case to document the issue with screenshots and such... would go a long way towards helping track down any issue
  • @jdogresorg #7014 07:58 PM, 06 Mar 2024
incredibly busy now with about 5 different projects... so not much spare time to make wallet updates unless necessary... github issue with testnet test case will help prove there is issue and elevate it up my priority list

  • @jdogresorg ↶ Reply to #7037 #7038 01:56 AM, 07 Mar 2024
I’m not aware of any issues at the moment…. All that FreeWallet does is make an API request to api.counterparty.io to generate the transaction and then signs and broadcast it in the wallet….. so if you’re having issues with dispensers, you should be talking to the counterparty developers about your issue.

FreeWallet uses counterparty API to generate all of its transactions , if some transactions it is generating, are no longer being recognized by counterparty as dispensers, then that is absolutely something you should bring up with the developers.. however, I’m not aware of any issues currently

  • @booo_urns ↶ Reply to #7057 #7059 08:57 PM, 07 Mar 2024
i resolved the issue by updgrading to the latest version of freewallet (unclear if that did anything or it was a coincidence - i was running the previous version prior to updating)

Here is the txn where i created the dispenser and nothing happened

balance in the source wallet never changed
  • @jdogresorg #7065 09:26 PM, 07 Mar 2024
it left, check the debits tab on ur address... went from your source address into the dispenser... maybe balance was not updated on xchain, but if that is the case (would need screenshot with timestamp to prove), would just be display issue on xchain explorer.... not issue with CP... CP has sanity checks in place to prevent that type of thing 🙂
  • @booo_urns #7066 09:31 PM, 07 Mar 2024
From what i can see - the asset (pepegun) left once (today - once i installed a new version of freewallet and created the dispenser)

Yesterday (txn i linked above) i'm pretty sure the asset never level, I watched and watched and refreshed and refreshed for about an hour. I saw the txn confirm in mempool.space but saw nothing in freewallet or xchain

  • @jdogresorg #7162 02:58 PM, 09 Mar 2024
Yes… if you’re buying something with BTC… check that auto BTC payback, and then leave your wallet open…. The wallet needs to be left open in order to monitor for order matches once in order matches detected then the BTC pay transaction is sent within 20 blocks automatically to confirm the order before it expires.

Counterparty did not hold a crowdsale or ICO, but did issue XCP, about six months after Omni in January 2014, to the bitcoin address 1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr.
2130 bitcoins were received and then subsequently burned and destroyed using a technique called proof-of-burn to avoid pre-mining. The terms of the swap were that one bitcoin burnt would garner between 1000 and 1500 XCP, as stated by Counterparty on bitcointalk

hmm we got an issue with the BTCpay pair for RAREPEPE/BTC... on xchain it shows as one whole token (and order should have theoretically matched with info shown on xchain):

    https://xchain.io/market/RAREPEPE/BTC

but UI in the wallet is showing a BTCpay order as "fractional" for buying the RAREPEPE:
  • @jdogresorg #7207 04:53 PM, 14 Mar 2024
hrm... strange... maybe cuz no actual rarepepe/BTC trades have ever taken place before, so market doesn't exist yet... not exactly sure... will dig into it when I have some time.

also when i look at it in FW the other way (reversing the pair) I see it as whole numbers:

Jdog is there a way to create dispensers for numeric tokens using Freewallet? - the Create Dispenser function only lets you use a dropdown menu that doesnt include numerics in the most recent version
  • @davesta #7234 12:46 PM, 16 Mar 2024
There are other functions you can simply input the Numeric Token name (such as MPMA) and the xcp protocol functions can still be done with FW - but not the dispenser function
  • @jdogresorg #7235 03:59 PM, 16 Mar 2024
That functionality hasn’t changed in the wallet in a long time… I believe the only place you were ever able to manually edit. The asset directly was in sends and issuances.
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #7235 #7236 04:06 PM, 16 Mar 2024
gotchya i must have remembered the UI wrong.... is there any downside to giving users the freedom to do all functions included in FW with numeric assets despite not showing them on xchain?
  • @jdogresorg #7237 04:17 PM, 16 Mar 2024
If the community wants numerics added back to XChain abd FreeWallet, I’ve made it very clear how that can happen.

The fact that we are two months without numerics , and next to no donations at all to add them…. Indicates to me it’s not really a priority for the community.

Had I seen even a little bit of effort from the stamps or counterparty community to do fundraising and compensate me for all the headaches of the last year, I would have happily added numerics back….. even with a few donations n not the full 1btc amount….

But I’ve given the community plenty of time to decide if numerics are priority or not and demonstrate their desired with more than words…. And the from my perspective, the community is speaking, and saying that numerics are not a priority in FreeWallet n xchain… so I’m listening n not making numerics my problem anymore.

If numerics are really a priority for the community, I imagine they can fund building of wallets which support numerics.
  • @jdogresorg ↶ Reply to #7236 #7238 04:18 PM, 16 Mar 2024
Yeah… downside would be me wasting my time going in and making code updates to FreeWallet specific to numerics…. Something I will not be doing.

I’ve already made it clear I can turn numerics back on in FreeWallet at any time….. but I won’t do so without being compensated…. so the idea of writing code to allow the use of numerics in my wallet when I’m not being paid for it doesn’t appeal to me.

Not trying to be a jerk … but I’ve made it clear how numerics can get added back…. And won’t be spending anymore energy building numeric support into FreeWallet.
  • @jdogresorg #7239 04:19 PM, 16 Mar 2024
FreeWallet does allow signing of raw transactions…. So you could use some external tool to build out the dispenser and then sign the transaction in FreeWallet.

Making postman API calls to the counterparty API to generate the dispenser transaction is probably the simplest method
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #7237 #7240 04:22 PM, 16 Mar 2024
they already funded stamped.ninja wallet .... but not all of the community would like to use their wallet (not open-source)

im not asking for you to reinclude numerics into xchain, only simply to have freewallet be able to create tx's to manually work with Numeric Assets (MPMA and sends work with them, why not other features?)....

not all numerics are stamps and not all users should be punished just because they want to use FW to manually do things with numerics

this is a really difficult ask for any new user, let alone people who somewhat know what they are doing
  • @jdogresorg #7243 04:24 PM, 16 Mar 2024
I understand what you’re asking…. It requires me to go into FreeWallet and make code updates specific to numerics…. Requiring me to put in more work to support a future, which I feel is abusive….. and numerics are used primarily by stamps which I also believe is a very abusive project towards Bitcoin.

So again , not interested in making updates to FreeWallet without being compensated…. My focus is elsewhere, building other platforms, and wallets and explorers.
  • @jdogresorg ↶ Reply to #7242 #7244 04:27 PM, 16 Mar 2024
I very much agree… this is not ideal, and not something a normal user could do…

I built a wallet that the full use of every token type in counterparty…. My goal has always been to support every thing that counterpart supports.

Unfortunately, a couple projects came in and abused the shit out of the system and the “free” tools…

My decision was either take the whole wallet down or remove the abusive behavior… which is what I did by removing numerics.
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #7244 #7245 04:28 PM, 16 Mar 2024
alright you do you, but to help support users with Numerics now my only advice is "use the stamp ninja wallet i guess"
  • @jdogresorg #7246 04:36 PM, 16 Mar 2024
It is unfortunate that new users have to suffer…. But I didn’t create the situation that we are in with only one open source wallet….

And yeah, I’m fine with you telling anybody that wants to use numeric dispensers to use the stamp wallet…

I think I’ve made it pretty clear. I don’t want abusive stamps in Freewallet without being compensated….. so fine with u pushing numeric users (stamps) towards closed source unknown untrusted wallets….. it’s a shitty situation, but I can only be responsible for my products n tools

Perhaps put pressure on the other members of the community who are building wallets that are untrusted and closed source to do things the right way🤷🏻‍♂️

I understand your position, respect it, but my viewpoint has not changed…

It’s shitty the community has to suffer in the meantime , but from my perspective, the only community truly suffering from numerics is the stamps community🤷🏻‍♂️
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #7246 #7247 04:38 PM, 16 Mar 2024
remember that most of the user community never picked a side and simply made art with both Named and Numeric assets - so it is absolutely NOT just the stamp community that is suffering - its the community that was here before and don't necessarily trust their wallet

  • @jdogresorg #7254 04:49 PM, 16 Mar 2024
As far as I know the new Dev focus is only on the protocol and the official position is that the only wallet is the command line wallet.

I’ve seen no conversations about building wallets other than telling the community that they should do it .

Has been floated by a few community members that the best solution here is me to shut down freewallet and xchain entirely and leave community in a lurch.

It’s becoming more clear to me than this new breed of developers, coming to counterparty care less about what the community wants and care more about pushing their own agendas forward ….

I still have Hope for counterparty …. But there’s a reason I’m distancing myself from it…. I believe the ethos has changed significantly over the past year… and the community has continued to become more and more fractured….. I don’t see that changing.

I think we’ll get some technical improvements and counterparty that will be good … but from my perspective, this is not the same community I joined, and many of the members now don’t hold the same core values that I do… so it’s best for me to just move on to building something I do believe in.

I want the best for counterparty and will continue to support it to the best of my ability 👍🏻
  • @davesta #7255 04:54 PM, 16 Mar 2024
Ill go ahead and put my 2 sats in: the WORST solution for the counterparty users is for you to shut down freewallet and xchain entirely and leave community in a lurch
  • @jdogresorg #7256 04:57 PM, 16 Mar 2024
I may be taking a step back from counterparty development…. But I’m still here for the counterpart users, my commitment to them has not changed, so the thought of closing down the explorer and wallet is laughable….

Don’t worry , I’m still here… still got much love for CP

Question for you @jdogresorg. Counterparty has its own set of seedwords from the BIP-39 list. Does Freewallet accept both lists? I was just told that a user was testing a Trezor and tried to input the 12 words into FW and got an error.
  • @jdogresorg #7266 08:35 PM, 16 Mar 2024
FreeWallet supports counterwallet and BIP39 passphrases…. Tho the derivation path for CP is different than most wallets… so the 12-word is generally not portable to other wallets to generate the same addresses.
  • @subterranean1 #7267 09:14 PM, 16 Mar 2024
Okay. Thanks for the quick reply. I've come up with a workaround where you import your seedphrase into electrum and then get the private key from there which you can import into FW no problem.

the tx exists in the CP`transactions` table.... so the keyword is detected and data is decoded... can't speak to why CP isn't actually processing the tx... tho gut says prolly related to all this extra space (highlighted in blue)...

so word from ouziel is that when you create a dispenser tx and use a different source than the origin in the FW input, you have to use a fresh newly created address in the UI first

Had a failed multi-send in Freewallet (0.9.29). Wasn't paying too close attention, but I think it did the first txn and failed before the second. On chain it looks like this: https://mempool.space/tx/44299d89ec5d4cdb83757af4c7ab3f6681c3697e58707bb67e05b0b7c49dd52b

It looks like I sent 0.00020000 BTC (about $12) to 3CD1VfcWE23UBRNswbqq8hvWBMe8fx2RkV

I've never seen this before. Who controls this 3 address? If I do, can I retrieve the Bitcoin?

One other wrinkle to this is that it was a numeric asset multi-send, so I'm not sure if that contributed to the failure.
  • @jdogresorg #7319 03:00 AM, 23 Mar 2024
FreeWallet uses the CP API to generate transactions... so best to ask your question of CP devs
  • @jdogresorg ↶ Reply to #7317 #7320 03:03 AM, 23 Mar 2024
This is a perfectly normal multi-send.... the mutli-send data is written into outputs in the first tx... and then the second tx has the data from the first tx assembled into a parsable cp tx (p2sh encoding).... yes you control all the addresses/outputs generated... and those outputs are spent in the second tx to make up the miners fee to get the tx mined :)
  • Only $12 not gonna worry about it. It was more a curiosity as to what was happening. Thanks for the explanation.
  • @jdogresorg #7322 03:05 AM, 23 Mar 2024
and the amount in these outputs us used to pay the tx fee on the second tx.... so, the output amount on these addresses varies.... I believe its ilke 546 sats per output and then the last outputs us made up of however many more sats are needed to make up the tx fee on the second tx
  • @subterranean1 #7324 03:17 AM, 23 Mar 2024
@jdogresorg you said recently that when the second tx fails like that the bitcoin gets "stuck" in an address which the sender still technically controls, but there is currently no way to retrieve it, correct? Is that something that a Counterparty dev would have to figure out a solution to? How would I even go about writing up an issue for that? I'm not a programmer and don't know how to explain what is happening under the hood.

Just curious as I've lost a few bucks that way.
  • @jdogresorg #7325 03:19 AM, 23 Mar 2024
you are correct... the data is encoded into outputs in the first tx which are then signed in the second tx.... so, you control the addresses and can sign them... so not an CP dev issue... more an issue of no easy tools to find those failed first tx outputs and assemble them into a tx to gather the btc
  • @jdogresorg #7326 03:20 AM, 23 Mar 2024
i imagine as btc price continues to rise... getting at this dust will become more of a priority for ppl 😉

  • @B0BSmith ↶ Reply to #7329 #7333 11:37 AM, 23 Mar 2024
i expect it is mempool related ... what is the size if the mempool that was used to craft the failed mpma?
  • @B0BSmith #7334 11:40 AM, 23 Mar 2024
if the first tx has since confirmed even nodes with very small mempools can generate the second tx hex
  • @B0BSmith #7335 11:42 AM, 23 Mar 2024
the fix is to use a node with a large enough mempool so that the first of the two mpma txs is seen by Counterparty so it can generate the second tx even if1st tx has low fee rate
  • @B0BSmith #7336 11:45 AM, 23 Mar 2024
you can make a 2nd tx mpma send with a 1 sat byte fee ... if you use a confirmed 1st tx as the input
  • @B0BSmith #7337 11:46 AM, 23 Mar 2024
so I expect if you have a node with a few gb mempool you won't get these failures

where can I access the full list of words ?
  • @jdogresorg #7344 03:01 PM, 23 Mar 2024
it is a custom library and wordlist that predate BIP39.... not really used outside of counterparty/counterwallet..... freewallet supports both counterwallet passphrases and BIP39
  • @B0BSmith #7345 03:25 PM, 23 Mar 2024
the wordlist has many words with duplications of the first 4 letters .. Grant Grand Grandma, Bottle Bottom .. best to write words down in full as if you use the wrong word there is no checksum like there is in bip39 so you will not get an error you will just get a different empty wallet
  • good to know! I would have just assumed first 4 letters.

We switched to a dynamic XCP fee model on sweeps at around Christmas time….. the fee right now is determined based off the size of the sweep specifically how many issuance and balances are transferred…. typically the prices much lower than the hardcoded half an XCP that we’ve been using for the past few years

@B0bSmith - can you explain what your tool is asking for in the second box "Counterparty API Generated Unsigned MPMA Step 2 TX HEX"
  • @B0BSmith ↶ Reply to #7361 #7362 09:28 AM, 27 Mar 2024
sure an MPMA send is done using two transactions, so my tool is asking for the unsigned hex that is the second of the two transactions
  • @B0BSmith #7363 09:37 AM, 27 Mar 2024
An MPMA send uses P2SH to encode the data in the 1st tx, and the 2nd tx has an OP_RETURN. The 2nd tx spends the p2sh outputs from the first tx as miner fees. So the second tx must be signed slightly differently than a standard Counterparty transaction
  • @subterranean1 #7364 07:34 PM, 27 Mar 2024

And does your tool operate in the local browser cache? Do I need to be concerned that I am pasting a private key into the site? Should I go offline and clear cache aftwards? I've got 5 failed tx's that I would like to recapture.

    Sorry for spamming the room
  • @B0BSmith #7366 08:35 PM, 27 Mar 2024
The tool can be used offline no problem and the tool doesn't store any data.

With regard to your failed mpma transactions my tool will sign the required 2nd tx to complete the mpma sends but you will need to use the Counterparty api to generate the 2nd tx hex, and you do this by referencing the txid that is the 1st part

  • @B0BSmith #7368 10:04 AM, 28 Mar 2024

When sending a multi send, are spaces required after each comma?

I would imagine xcp is also appropriate to send via this method yes?
  • @davesta ↶ Reply to #7370 #7372 10:04 PM, 30 Mar 2024
go to 'change address' on the upper right of FW and click your segwit address (should be segwit address #1) and the addy will start with "bc1"

FW gives you 10 legacy addresses and 10 segwit addresses to start with that are deterministically from your seed words
