Hey Helene, you’re part of folding coin yeah? Why doesn’t folding coin create demand side for its currency which is essentially loyalty points? That would create value for folding coins. For example why not sell something with folding coins- Stanford university could sell educational materials to support folding at home. Or you could use it to fund cancer research etc.
-
It seems like a great initiative but currently there is no economic once to buy fldc
-
Economic incentive
-
Fyi we already support cancer research through folding itself and we do have a whole merch store where you can spend FLDC also now, plus there is Foldingclub which we collaborate on with Curecoin which helps fund medical research. Fyi we are not directly affiliated with Stanford so cant be selling Stanford educational materials. I encourage you to visit our website Foldingcoin.net to learn about what the project is already working on now and join our discord forum to offer your valuable ideas and volunteer for this project yourself. This is a registered non-profit so our focus is not pumping the token price. We are writing grant proposals to help support the project also now. Next saturday will be our next monthly public meeting where you can also give your input and ask questions. We'll be posting the link to the hangout here before the livestream starts.

Hello

Hey to all open source developers, just wondering if anyone is up for helping a team out in the spirit of open source development? Privacy is something that affects us all and many projects can benefit from the R&D of Btcp however they are stuck with a relatively simple issue - compile error with Travis ci. Would anyone be able to take a look?
-

Resolve build errors in Travis: https://travis-ci.com/BTCPrivate/BTCP-Rebase For example, at the end of the arm-linux-gnu Travis build: (...) checking for mutexes... POSIX/pthreads/library checking pthread.h usability... yes checking pth...
-
Thanks Helene I will join the channel. Not at all interested in pumping price. Just suggesting that the economic purpose of rewarding folders is only achieved if folding coin itself has demand side - ie is used. Maybe make the shop clearer on the website. I’ll join discord and try to help you guys come up with a strategy. It could be super successful at achieving mass folders IF Stanford does adopt fldc. Why not try?

Sorry for posting a GitHub issue for another project. The counterparty community appear more knowledgeable and the quality of discussion here is far more intellectual than other groups.
Given that everything is open source I thought we may all be able to help each other for a good cause.
On a side rant if I may do so briefly - centralized exchanges have taken greed to another level and are destroying decentralization. ICO’s the dark side of Ethereum have also fueled this destruction- the purpose of most blockchain projects and all currency tokens is to facilitate open source decentralized governance.
We need counterparty dex more than ever.
We also need to back currencies that are decentralized and private. There aren’t any that are out there except maybe Btcp has a chance. - 05 October 2018 (4 messages)

Internet, The technology influenced almost every aspect of human life. It is the infrastructure that made the creation of Google, Facebook, Amazon and many other tech giants possible. What would the world look like without it?
Elon Musk wouldn't be able to found paypal and Tesla or SpaceX wouldn't exist for that matter. There are millions of examples to prove the Internet's importance in our lives.
Many Believe that blockchain is the next big thing. the technology to shape a secure, transparent, self-governed and connected place. bitcoin proved people that money can be self-governed(decentralized) and ethereum expanded its use cases. There are several blockchain platforms and many more coming up every day but the main problem is these decentralized platforms are not total by themselves, They have all some pros and cons.
Beside from blockchain platforms, There are thousands of tokens created on those blockchains, many of them only for an specific use. Token multiplicity may cause problems like more need for third-party exchanges and elaboration of cryptocurrencies for daily use. That is why the cryptocurrencies have not found their way to people's daily life and are simply an investment tool.
Internet of Blockchains (IoB)
IoB or Internet of Blockchains is the solution offered by neel to many blockchain problems.
It will connect all blockchain platforms directly to each other through tokenizing and smart contracts. Solving:
Third-party requirement for data exchange between blockchains
Scalability issues in all connected blockchains
Free modular construct to make it possible for every blockchain to connect(just like internet)
Zero risk in crypto exchange trades(Atomic Swaps)
Simplification of cryptocurrencies for all people to use
Neel will make it possible for every blockchain to stay connected with neel and all other blockchains connected to IoB network.
With These issues solved along with other Neel Blockchain innovations, the world will be ready to accept blockchain in all aspects of human life just like internet. including Neel deteam's headvest project to shape a new massive financial market instead of stock market, Or neel deteam's other revolutionary project called neel cloud to completely decentralize the web. users can use multiple blockchain platforms for different use cases. -

Hey ... I have not been following the development of xcp ... did the fork happen ??
-
-
-
@ThePatrickG there was never a fork in the blockchain bifurcation sense of the term.
there was talk of a code clone deployment on bitcoin cash, with further talk about whether or not to clone all existing assets with a snapshot.
that's all dead in a ditch AFAIK. -
Hi @heunland how's it going with you these days?
-
there was also talk of a code clone deployment onto litecoin at one point, but that was perhaps even more ephemeral than the bitcoincash attempt.
-
I suppose these are called forks on the basis that they are codebase forks... definitely not blockchain forks 😊

has anyone experimented with drink tokens? I made some and sent a couple out to regular customers of mine...just had them install FreeWallet on their phone. Last night a customer in his 50's came in and redeemed one for the second time...pretty cool. https://xchain.io/asset/DRINKTOKEN.mellowcorn
-
as a loyalty program?
-
Amazing
-
Hi there everything fine over here just really busy lately and too little time for rare pepe 🐸
-
-
-
Very cool :)
-
most dive bars have drink tokens that you can buy and give away...or the bartender comps them for regular customers. but with little plastic tokens, like poker chips, a lot of people put them in their pocket and forget about them. they're easy to lose and forget about. they would also be pretty easy to counterfeit, although i don't think that's much of an issue.
-
pretty cool to just have an app in your phone with drink tokens on them...people love buying eachother drinks

the bitcoind container in our counterparty node always gets killed, anyone can help?
-
how so?
-
what does it spits on the log?
-
have you checked disk space?
-
yes
-
the node used to work for awhile, now, it keeps crashing
-
What does bitcoind say when it exit? ‘Fednode tail bitcoin’
-
let me find the exact log
-
why i can not paste the log
-

-
Kill sh , sensitive words?
-
how much memory does your server have?
-
how much disk free space?
-
seems like you're running out of memory
-
should be more than enough
-
from "docker inspect 'bitcoind container'" , exit code 0, OOM false
-
mainnet counterparty requires around 16gb
-
and testnet around 8gb
-
(ram)
-
iirc
-
we thought about that too, but nothing shows it was the reason
-
can you graph memory consumption after starting your bitcoind?
-
i just checed , we have 64 g ram
-
fednode docker compose does not specify container memory limits, right
-
1t disk
-
if you don't specify i think it's unbounded
-
hmmm
-
64g should be ok
-
yes,
-
so it is really weird, some suggested that , we should use bitcoin-addrindex 0.12, we are trying this
-
what fednode version are you running? master or develop?
-
but unlikey it should work
-
master
-
full
-
0.13 is the current version on master
-
we know, 0.13.2
-
that's it
-
in the Dockerfile of counterparty/bitcoin
-
we changed it to 0.12.0 to have a try
-
usually downgrading bitcoin is a bad idea
-
as the databases aren't generally backwards compatible
-
got it
-
but we are out, tried everything we can find, nothing works
-
have you tried reindexing?
-
the most weird thing, it used to work , out of no reason, it stopped to
-
yes
-
took 20 hours, did not help
-
yeah, that happens with old unmaintained forks
-
yike
-
s
-
is there a light-weight counterparty wallet, like electrum for bitcoin?
-
so we can install it easily, import our keys, get our money out
-
well, there's jdog's freewallet
-
is it safe?
-
-
is it official?
-
main counterparty and counterwallet servers are run by him
-
so i would say, as safe as counterwallet
-
got it
-
does it support TRIG coin?
-
the TRIG token?
-
YES
-
it supports all counterparty tokens afaik
-
token
-
so yeah
-
great
-
thank you very much
-
👍
-
@jdogresorg is the developer of that wallet.... he knows a lot about server ops on the counterparty side of things
-
great
-
we will try it first, if in need of help, consult him then
-
however, that error you're getting is pretty weird, whenever you can, give me a larger log to peruse and check if there's anything else
-
again, thanks
-
sure thing
-
last 200-300 lines of bitcoind should help debugging the error
-
u welcome
-
nothing abnormal except the last line
-
weird
-
really weird
-
maybe there's a docker limitation in place?
-
docker inspect it
-
we will check
-
Interesting case

seems the problem with our node is that, for imported addresses, searchrawtransactions would timeout, for all the rest addresses, it functions correctly. anyone knows why?
-
we imported privatekey with fednode exec bitcoin bitcoin-cli importprivkey
-
Not a developer, but curious about this - How long does it take to timeout?
-
Is it set rpctimeout=300 in bitcoin.conf?
-
bool ReadTransaction(CTransaction&, const CDiskTxPos&, uint256&)() : deserialize or I/O error
-
endup with this error, there are lot of trnasactions of this address, seems that is the reason
-
Hmm, would make sense I think, I'm looking at an address with 600k transactions.., for me, bitcoind sometimes freezes sending many RPC calls, but this has nothing to do with counterparty.
Maybe try to increase timeout in bitcoin.conf, and increase dbcache level
Also sure that there is no corruption in blocks?
just thinking of other possibilities -
but the log error appears immediately after the rpc invoke
-
not likely timeout issue
-
Oh
-
You mean this error?
-
yes
-
I'm confused, I thought the problem earlier was this, is this above error solved now?
-
Assuming you tried already to reindex and ran fednode reparse counterparty & fednode reparse counterblock
-
(CTransaction& tx, const CDiskTxPos &pos, uint256 &hashBlock) { CAutoFile file(OpenBlockFile(pos, true), SER_DISK, CLIENT_VERSION); CBlockHeader header; try { file >> header; fseek(file, pos.nTxOffset, SEEK_CUR); file >> tx; } catch (std::exception &e) { return error("%s() : deserialize or I/O error"

I’m fearing that Poloniex/Bittrex might delist XCP if it keeps having such a low volume 😣
-
Dont stress about things u cant control. John just worked with bittrex to fix an issue they were having with their huge hotwallet and withdrawing cp assets. And the next cp release (soonish) contains a bunch of fixes and new features which make using cp even cheaper/easier..... from my perspective the future is brighter now than it was 9 months ago.... actual work being done again (check github activity recently) 😀
-
binance, not bittrex
-
Ahh... my mistake 👍🏻😜
-
but i'm in contact with bittrex from time to time
-
Yeah I saw that github was getting active again, this is quite exciting
-
I’m just a bit afraid regarding the volume as XCP has had one of the lowest volume for the past few weeks and Bittrex/Poloniex are currently on a killing spree with the delisting of low volume coins
-
need to get on Binance
-
They have triggers... so, they already are integrated with cp.... just no xcp market till their listing vig is paid
-
How much does it cost nowadays to get listed on binance?
-
Last i heard 1 mill
-
It used to be $1M
-
Yeah
-
So I guess it’s never going to happen for CP 😅
-
Cp was recently added to coinswitch.io and xchange.me
-
binance is $3M+ now
-
Damn!
-
Seriously...
-
i’ve even heard $5M
-
well.... their own business decisions are theirs to make.... as long as the platform works and we have use cases we're "alive"
-
any chance XCP/BTC could happen on our DEX in the event we are delisted?
-
BTC/XCP can already happen on our dex.... the process in counterwallet is klunky and requires the user to keep the browser window open... so it was disabled in counterwallet... but BTC/XCP trades still work on the DEX fine
-
I built freewallet with Auto-BTCPay and Manual-BTCpay support... so, using freewallet.io desktop wallet or btc2xcp.com you already CAN trade BTC on the DEX 🙂
-
excellent
-
Actually binance has completely got rid of the listing fee and switched to a donation based model, where chances of getting listed allegedly don't depend on amount sent. Ravencoin just got listed with no fee
https://mobile.twitter.com/cz_binance/status/1050326256841940994
supposedly they're trying to list projects that have some kind of genuine utility, developer effort and community, and most notably 'utility' projects, that didn't raise on obscene valuations since security tokens are getting such a regulatory crackdown, with exchanges going forward refusing to list many ICO tokens.
Counterpartys initial distribution (novel proof-of-burn) is advantageous in that respect and it's one of the 'purest' projects out there if you ask meCZ BinanceBack to listing. Ravencoin, no ICO, community project, humble people, no listing fee. https://t.co/MMJM4xyYtp

Maybe someone should knock that door again

I think it's worth an approach; specifically with the structural upgrades in the pipeline. Counterparty is a genuine project and the market seems to be slowly maturing with ICO tokens becoming less favorable and investors/traders looking for novel, forward thinking platforms (that have actually launched and proven)
Counterparty can offer ethereum like functionality on bitcoin (which has it's own distinct advantages) and has offered this functionality since before ethereum launched, with no ICO. Not only pioneered the token space but the DEX space too. Not hype driven. It's the definition of open source, grass roots innovation -
Previously I was talking to an exchange owner and his main gripe with counterparty at the time was the esoteric stack (plus it was preferable implementing 'easy' ERC tokens since they already had the rails in place), although he did concede compared to some projects the integration documentation was expansive and he liked the vision.

24 Frames | Trailer | New Release
24 Frames opens exclusively at the Film Society of Lincoln Center on February 2: https://www.filmlinc.org/24frames The final film from Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami is a wordless series of sketches elaborating on his lifelong fascination with photography. Consisting of 24 four-and-a-half minute sketches—each a digitally manipulated, fixed-frame view of a scene from nature—24 Frames allows the late Kiarostami to evoke the moments before and after a still image has been captured, and to explore the thin line between natural and artificial beauty. Largely absent of humans, and alternating between color and black-and-white, these poetic miniatures gradually come to life with subtlety, giving rise to the poignant and mysterious possibilities of the moving image. A Janus Films release. The Film Society of Lincoln Center is devoted to supporting the art and elevating the craft of cinema. The only branch of the world-renowned arts complex Lincoln Center to shine a light on the everlasting yet evolving importance of the moving image, this nonprofit organization was founded in 1969 to celebrate American and international film. Via year-round programming and discussions; its annual New York Film Festival; and its publications, including Film Comment, the U.S.’s premier magazine about films and film culture, the Film Society endeavors to make the discussion and appreciation of cinema accessible to a broader audience, as well as to ensure that it will remain an essential art form for years to come. What's the burn rate of BTC>>XCP ,anyone still remembered?
-
It varied depending on how early you burned. It was 1 BTC = 1500 xcp initially..... by the end of the burn closer to 1 BTC = 1000 xcp
-
Average Burn Rate
Up to 1 BTC could be burned in exchange for 1000 to 1500 XCP during the burn.
-
You can "burn" today at a rate of 1900, check that out. 👀

implement Smartcontract possible now on XCP?
-
There is some smart contract like functionality exposed within the counterparty platform, but no; you cannot write turing complete code and run it using counterparty.
A proposal has been made for a counterparty specific VM which will enable some ethereum-like functionality with a lesser attack surface. -
and, very important to note, NOT turing complete
-
Proof-of-concept VM Development
So i’ve recently started to develop a minimal pure python Virtual Machine tailored specifically for counterparty. I’m starting this thread to keep note of development and design decisions, and also to get input from the community regarding what should the VM do. FAQ Why not use EVM? EVM was designed with ethereum blocktimes and specifics in mind. CP has already a lot of groundwork regarding tokens, bets and a lot of useful functions that don’t need to be recoded in a smart contract. Isn’t...

Works fine for me.
-
-
Same... works fine here

Might want to try clearing your cache and then trying again... perhaps some file only got partially downloaded and then cached... dunno... console might tell you more as well (right-click->inspect)
-
Strange problem to have. Clear your cache perhaps?
-
-
are all your devices on the same net connection? could be something being blocked from loading.... try with a different net connection
-
Interesting though, since you'd expect more or less identical behavior to occur on all pairs.

well, this isn't a problem with counterparty itself, nor does it even sound like an issue with bittrex. But it is interesting- Maybe it's some local filtering or blocking.
If you're using a desktop browser can you try what is suggested earlier to work out why the page is hanging. Open up a console (usually f12 button) and refresh -
Look at the 'console' tab and network tab to see if anything is failing to load or hanging. It might be highlighted or have some sort of 404, 403 etc 'error' next to it. A screenshot would help.
-
it definatly is some kind of eror, i have it with more coins i traded before... when i use console i see an error and on the coneection tab i see a 404 but he doesn't want to make the screen shot because of total system fail once trying... will try again tomorrow. thanks for trying to help!!
-
Have you contacted bittrex support?
-
No not yet. Seems to be a problem in my netwerk i asume. Called someone to help me out tommorow hope he can fix it. 🤞
It's not only with XCP but a few more coins i have, so must be in my system somewhere... -
I think that's the most plausible explanation- if you can- troubleshoot on a completely different connection/different ISP. Please do update if you find out the cause & a solution.

Meanwhile another day over in ethereum land

Tried the bittrex website without login in on my job. The same thing happens there. So it's definatly not my home connection or my devices.
Could You tell me wich browser you use.
I have crome and windows browser both giving problems. -
WARNING: Beware .scr file shares going around. it’s a trojan virus

As mentioned, that is referencing an old direction-when counterparty demoed they could port all ethereum EVM functionality and run it on counterparty atop the bitcoin blockchain, removing the need for a seperate dedicated chain (this is still possible)- back then counterparty had a more complete working product than ethereum and indeed was above ethereum as a top 10 project as many were excited about the prospect of developing dapps on the native bitcoin block chain; plus unlike ethereum counterparty had no ICO and came complete with the first decentralized exchange
Ultimately, counterarty developers decided not to implement turing complete code on the blockchain like ethereum due to the forecasted risks. Bitcoin-centric platforms have generally taken a more cautious measured approach to security than ethereums 'move fast and break stuff' approach
Since that decision was made, there has been many, many high profile smart contract hacks, and collectively investors on ETH projects have lost billions (most notably the controversial DAO contract & subsequent bailout) which resulted in the loss of $300 million at the time ($2 billion now) and the fork of ETH and ETH classic, so arguments could be made counterpartys decision turned out to be a sensible one ultimately.
The proposed counterparty (non-turing complete VM) is a good idea. It gives a much smaller attack surface by default- while still containing useful functionality- which is good in a time where users are having to factor in the real risk that even an audited ERC contract could still contain obscure bugs or trapdoors.
so in theory the proposed counterparty VM could represent an interesting choice for those looking to launch/implement a token in future -
Chromium and FF quantum both work fine. Since you've tried on multiple machines its unlikely to be plugins or a general browser issue. And all pages work for me and others so it's not s universal site issue.
Maybe some resource is blocked on an ISP level or some issue with a CDN.
Could you take a screenshot of the console tab- With the 'console page' and the 'network' page? you should open that up and then try and reload the page first -
YEAH,SEE IT.Thanks for your explanation,and the whole story.👍
-
Everything freezes once going to the page and the page of a few other coins so don't seem possible to make the screen shot.
But i just checked bittrex slack, and others have the same issue. Don't know iff they have different servers for different places. But i am waiting for a help out there.
Thanks for all sugestions, tried firefox still the same.
Fingers crossed 🤞👍 -

Thanks for the update. With multiple reports they should get it resolved soon enough.

Thought Bubble: Publish & distribute a lesson plan for teachers of things like tech class in high school and middle school where kids learn about blockchain through issuing Counterparty tokens. Or just like for parents in blockchain who want something they can do with their kids tech wise to get them interested.
-
That sounds like an A+ idea
-
The XCP is math and finance, also Counterparty counts towards computer science and someone is covering Chemistry development. Wow. That's scary close to being a complete package.
-
We need more dev
-
What makes you think that? How do we get to there, in your view.
-
Hi. I need help. I won 0.84 bitcoin, I can not get

Nice!

Where do you need to get it from?
-
stock exchange
-
private go

So you would like to withdraw to a wallet that supports XCP or BTC?

I can point you in the direction of the official Counterparty website with all the information on wallets and great description of how to use them. If that would be any help
-
I need help. I won 0.84 bitcoin, I can not get mooncrypt. info
-
Sorry for delay Sven just trying to get more info on mooncrypt. I haven't heard of it before. Can you tell me is it a website or does it have connections to Counterparty?
-
Mooncrypt. Info is a crypto exchange?
-
Write me
-
stock exchange
-
looks like totally legit 😐
-
-
Ha
-
Maybe moon coin but I can't find any mooncrypt. Info exchanges.
-
Not a bad idea. There are some hackspaces out there that teach the basics of blockchain to a younger (or just new) audience- considering there isn't really an easier way to issue a token or manage on the bitcoin blockchain (in fact many I've spoke to didn't know it was possible) other than counterparty it seems a sound choice.
Perhaps if there was a simple third party swapbot, or testnet playground and faucet the barrier to playing around with the system could be even lower. -
You can use testnet on a counterwallet by adding /?testnet=true to the end of the url. There's a bunch of tBTC faucets and you can burn tBTC for tXCP still.
-
Right. Perhaps still fairly complex for someone not well versed in the core concepts. Something like a bootable ubuntu OS or VM with the tools pre-installed & a /simple/ explainer and guide holding hands through all that would be cool.
-
I think it's a scammer
-
I think so too. It was really early and I sometimes just like seeing if it's a bot or maybe a live one. 😅
