Can anyone send BTC from any counter party wallet to a dispenser address and receive xcp tokens in exchange?
-
-
-
Ok thanks. Lets say I create a dispenser with 100 tokens in escrow for $5 worth of btc each.. what happens if someone sends $6 or $12 worth of btc to the address?
-
The dispenser will vend as much as possible to you for the price you pay
-
if the price is $5 per token and you send $6... you get 1 token and you just sent $1 extra
-
if the price is $5 per token and you send $10... you get 2 tokens
-
if the price is $5 per token and you send $12... you get 2 tokens and you just sent $2 extra
-
so... make sure to send only the correct amount to a dispenser 🙂
-
-
Got it. Thanks. I’m working on some animal share ideas. I could just tell buyers to buy bitcoin on cash app, download free wallet, send btc to their wallet, send to the dispenser. Then they have tokens they can use to redeem for beef or pork or whatever. Perhaps too many steps, but pretty straightforward.
-
Yes setting the price in bitcoin would be better
-
-
cool.. everywhere you see me use $ replace it with BTC... .easy fix
-
-
Yes I was thinking of using a different token for the actual redeeming by sending them with dividend function. Or you could send out vote tokens to vote on harvest/pickup dates or something

Buying pepecash can anyone hook it up direct? $50 best offer.
-
Thx ahead

Your prolly best off buying from a dispenser if you need it fast

When Exchange
-
Exchange built into the protocol.... if you mean a centralized exchange, they ALL require a listing fee. If you want to pay some BTC to get an asset listed on an exchange, go for it. Otherwise probably best to use the decentralized exchange (DEX) that is built into the platform
-
An ally hooked it up. I think dispensers are very cool. There’s always concern the static exchange rate won’t be competitive.

When I get a spinning wheel on the FreeWallet iOS app, how do I know if the send is going to actually work? Just wait until it shows up in history? Is there a way to know it failed?
-
Yes, gotta just wait for it to work or throw an error... it’s been a couple years since I touched the mobile wallet code

-
Are the testnet counterwallets down for anyone else?
-
counterwallet.io shows that both seem to be up
-
if they are not working for you, you can try freewallet.io desktop wallet, as it also supports testnet (just go to the settings screen and switch the setting to testnet)
-
-
I can't log on with my passphrase on either server. It just continuously loads. I've tried on 2 different computers and on Chrome and Firefox both with and without private mode
-
"No counterparty servers are currently available. Please try again later. ERROR: The server is not fully caught up to the blockchain"
-
Ok, so try a different wallet.. perhaps freewallet.io desktop wallet.... it uses xchain so should have no issues
-
Will it accept passphrases to login? That's all I have
-
Yes
-
Great, thanks

Does FreeWallet iOS Mobile not send for anyone else?
It seems like FreeWallet desktop is the only functioning non-game specific wallet now, right? -
I just did an asset send on my iOS device and it seemed to work fine
-
-
How long did the wheel spin before it was successful? I give up after a few minutes
-
It took about 15 seconds... it could just be your requests happening to line up with the public.coindaddy.io API being down
-
This has happened before
-
I've noticed that under higher mempool loads (20K+), CP sucks up a bunch more CPU than normal and the API will go down a while, then come back up
-
I’ll try again soon. The desktop version was able to generate a tx
-
Not sure if it worked tho since xchain isn’t loading
-
xchain.io isn't loading for you at all? Perhaps you triggered the DOS protection by making too many requests in a 5 min period.... might want to try hopping on a VPN to switch your IPs and see if xchain.io loads for ya then 🙂
-
The tx link i was able to get gives a 500 error
-
I used to be able to work counterwallet so easily. I miss it
-
How many attempts is normal before someone can send a Counterparty token? I haven’t been able to get a TX to work first try on one single application in MONTHS
-
Can't answer as to why your having so many issues bro. My experience has been different. Anytime I want to do something on counterparty, I simply go into freewallet.io desktop wallet and do it without any real issues.
-
You also might want to try freeport.io
-
should be able to use the same passphrase.... it differs from freewallet in that it generates the transactions in the wallet itself... freewallet just makes a call to the CP API to generate the transaction
-
so you might have better luck with that wallet 🙂
-
I’ll try Freeport again.
- 14 May 2020 (21 messages)
-
what is the cheapest fee I can use and have a TX clear within a few blocks?
-
depends on the size of the transaction... what are you doing? a simple send?... most single send transactions are about 250 bytes... based on current mempool size (https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/), looks like 137-138 satoshis fee per byte will get you into the next block or two..... so 250 bytes x 138 satoshis per byte = 34,500 sats (0.00034500 BTC)... which is about $3.30 in USD
-
Yeah, just trying to send a single card. It's insane that it costs $3.30 to send a card. I was trying to use a $0.05 fee... i guess that is why it isn't working
-
i sold the card for 25 xcp... but i value .000345 BTC more than 25 xcp. Oops
-
well, the mempool is MUCH fuller than normal... 90,000+ pending transactions.... so given that, $3.30 to jump in line in front of 90,000+ other transactions isn't that bad.... but yeah, if you didn't have to send in the next block and could wait a few hours, could send for a much lower fee.... its all about the priority level you want to send your tx at 😛
-
Stephen Cole
Recently Iran moved $500M in gold out of Venezuela, a risky and costly operation with a load of 9 tons spread across multiple jets. Yesterday a single Bitcoin transaction moved $750M. It took a few minutes and cost $2.75 in fees. https://t.co/uibuw5O3cT
-
That’s an impressive comparison
-
Seems like a no-brainer... BTC better than gold, but hey, thats just me 😛
-
Yeah... $2.75 in fees is cool for moving $750M in bitcoin. Not cool for moving 25 xcp of a shitpost card.
-
-
Moving 1 XCP is more expensive than 1 XCP
-
only if you pay high fees to immediately get it into the next block
-
able to do sends for 0.00001000 BTC ($0.03) if your willing to wait a few blocks... today is not a good example for "fees", cuz today is not a normal day, most days we have less than 10K transactions, today we have 9x that amount.
-
-
There is a chart of fees/mempool over the last 30 days... you can see we are at the highest peak right now 😛
-
I'm on the desktop freewallet, I hit send funds, confirm, and have waited about 10 minutes. is it safe to say this isn't going to process?
-
i was able to send using freeport with a $.40 fee, but the xchain tx link is broken. hope it works.
-
it feels like this is the tail end of counterparty
-
always with the doom and gloom. The CP API is just having issues under heavy mempool load... hence why your request to the API didn't work... not the end of anything.
-
probably where you are sniffing, yes

I want to know whether counterparty supports smart contracts?
-
and can we run thus chain or node on private network?
-
Can’t seem to log into any CP wallet- how does freewallet DEX work- u need to buy permission to use DEX or place orders?
-
Yes, you need FREEACCESS or XCHAINPEPE to access the DEX on Freewallet.
-
Freewallet DEX works by just downloading it, clicking the "Exchange" tab, and placing an order...easy peasy
-
Not true, I opened sourced the wallet and opened the FreeWallet DEX interface up to everyone about 4-5 months ago... .also Freewallet is the only wallet which supports using BTC on the DEX.

the 12 word seed phrase is universal for all the project. Even new ones like CasaTookan (Book of Orbs) or old ones like Vanilla. in fact, the 12 words is one way to access your btc wallet. You can get the full private key out or use XCP with a private key instead of a phrase.
-
-
-
and this is something that will work?
-
-
there is still difficulty in matching btc orders on theDEX. Because the sales of XCP from dispensers are not aggregated in price, they do not affect the market rate history. ttbomk. if you go to xchain.io/asset/xcp and click on dispensers, there is a list of all open and closed. by looking through each, you can determine current prices
-
unlike a trade offer, dispensers do not expire. Therefore you should set the price at what you are willing to part with it at. As the days go by the market will fluctuate in the order will become more or less appealing. If you are wanting to sell right now, then the price should be slightly below current market offers
-
-
counterwallet may be the official wallet, but it was by the previous foundation that dissolved some two+ years ago.
there is a wallet that is still in development. It belongs the creator @jdogresorg who also runs xchain.io
afaik the desktop versions are fully functioning and even resolve issues like selling xcp on theDEX -

this high fee is the fault of btc?

Use freewallet.io desktop wallet
-
J...nothing works

"nothing works"
-
-
wonder how it is that transactions are still in mempool and being processed in blocks if nothing is working
-
This hairpepe is mine
-
3 days ago i put the order
-
and it got into a block 2 hours ago
-
ok... that is a FEE issue
-
No confirmations
-
ie you paid a low fee
-
and there were 90K tranactions in the memppol
-
so CP is working fine
-
you just paid a low fee
-
But, this is problem is for btc?
-
and your transaction didn't get sent for a long time
-
0.15 is a good fee for me
-
if you want your tx sent fast... send a higher fee
-
🤷🏻♂️
-
-
😬
-
I sent a tx during the halvening in 1 block cuz I paid a $3.50 fee.... so.... if you pay a high enough fee, BTC works fine... if you pay a low fee, pleaes don't complain about your transaction "not working"
-
spend lots of time trying to solve peoples issues when 99.9% of the time the solution is... either send more BTC to the address... or pay a higher TX fee
-
-
I think paying more than that to send a card to a friend, it was not worth it.
-
I am restarting counterparty/counterblock on both servers.... should be back up in a few minutes
-
I have tried to find a solution, maybe not easy and pleasant for some, but yes, I think it would be great😞
-
look beyond what we have before us, be better
-
-
but my package wasn't delivered overnight... the system is broken
-
-
I will not bring up the subject again, I think you know what I think, and if you stopped to see it 5 min, zero that you would see it too
-
-
I am waiting a week for my package to be deliverd... the system is broken
-
-
-
-
Seems work now
-
Freewallet and rarepepewallet works for me
-
As has been stated in here numerous times... counterwallet sucks and is broken most of the time... please use an alternative wallet like freewallet.io
-
If you are having issues with counterwallet (as most do), please consider using an alternative wallet from www.counterparty.io/wallets . The most easy to use wallet which has the most up to date Counterparty features is Freewallet.io Desktop Wallet. If your having issues with counterwallet.io, please consider using freewallet.io BEFORE complaining about counterwallet.

I understand fees are a problem. but it's hard because when I use freewallet I don't get a transaction confirmation and when I use freeport my xchain tx confirmations are 500 errors.
I understand that it is extremely expensive to use counterparty these days, but even the two "working" wallets don't seem to be working exceptionally well... even when using high fees - 18 May 2020 (63 messages)
-
im not sure if you live in a vortex, or have great expectations... I managed to get an order set on theDEX for an affordable fee today. I needed to be patient and wait for the desktop freewallet.io, but i clicked the button three dozen times it seems... as eventually, i had one confirmation and a TON of errors. Shoulda clicked it and left it alone for a minute. oh well. also... with counterwallet... it just needs to be reloaded and tried again. sometimes 20 or 30 times over two or three days. they are functional... which is pretty impressive seeing as how it is so old and has not been updated to be up to par with development in the last... four years? five? idunno. seems like a long time measured in blocks
-
lets play what if:
what if there was a CIP for a new wallet? would you send btc there? if not, how do you suggest this issue be handled by the community? I mean anyone is able and free to spin up their own full node and code their own wallet, gus did. Depends really what your personal dedication level is to functionality that you want to achieve. -
-
-
-
The CCS is open source
-
I was more implying that some 'trusted custodian' in the XCP ecosystem could set one up with a different base currency
-
I wasn't suggesting fundraising in monero, my bad
-
-
ok, got it. Reload the wallet 30 times over three days to make an expensive tx with no confirmation that may or may not go through. good plan.
-
@wampum weren't you elected as part of the XCP foundation? Weren't you guys supposed to figure this shit out?
-
-
if anyone has an actual question id be happy to answer with specifics... by repeating any information already publicly available.
I'm not going to sit here and try to convince a negative nancy that they are mistaken. Upgrading someones' abstract concept of an interconnected system with so many variables is not easily done in person or during a respectful conversation let alone with some drive-by comments. The irony is lost on the shallow who mistakenly behave as if being part of the bad-news post office is a form of constructive contribution.
the new Foundation will make another statement and hold another meeting as soon as it can and it is needed. Until then feel free to exert as much effort as you expect others of doing. Diffusion of responsibility should not be confused with decentralized teamwork -
I appreciate the foundations official response. Can we add these instructions to https://counterparty.io/wallets/ to help prevent further confusion?
1. To use Freewallet.io desktop
2. Click transact using high fee 36 times
3. Wait a long time
4. Ignore errors
To access counterwallet
1: reload page 30 times over 2 or three days
I think it's important to remind people that these services are still 100% functional and that they have particular instructions that may not be obvious to non foundation members?
Might also want to add a disclaimer that if someone doesn't have the time or patience to do this, that they can just code their own wallet. -
dont conflate the conversation.
you got no official response from the foundation. -

If you look at the uptime of the public counterparty API over the last year, you can see that is is up and working the majority of the time.
http://platform.counterparty.io/5565144/history
This chart prettymuch sums up the issues... The current issues (as I have said numerous times) is being caused by a large mempool (more than 20K transactions). As you can see in this chart, during the last 4-5 days (when the mempool has been rekt) Counterparty has been having some issues with the API staying up (the API drops offline while parsing a block).
http://platform.counterparty.io/5565144/2020/05
Wheeler, I am sorry that your experiencing issues, but the current issues have been explained to you. If you choose to just ignore the reasonable explanation that has been given to you and instead choose to continue stomping your feet and saying "it no work", then there is nothing I can do about that.
You have asked your question of freewallet/counterwallet and it has been answered at LEAST 10-15 times by myself personally. If you would like to actually help out counterparty by doing something other than sitting in your armchair and bitching, then I would suggest you try that route as your constant complaining is getting you nowhere except closer to the exit.
At this point it appears your just here to be disruptive. I would advise you to review the counterparty community standards and abide by them lest you get removed for being disruptive.
This is your one warning about being disruptive. Please refrain from continuing to complain about the same issues again and again when you have already received the answer many times. -
Some users including myself have been unable to transact despite high fee usage. The fact that those users look past our current wallet shortcomings speaks to the value of the tech, but it won't be that way forever. Unfortunately "up and running" does not equal "functional" or even "useable" at times.
-
the root of the problem is that there's no funding for improvement on this issue, and any solution for these issues (high mempool load = unstability, new wallet, etc)
-
starts by raising funding
-
-
yup
-
-
-

-

-
Dude... that's pretty harsh. I've taken all your advise and still have had issues getting tx to work. I know I'm not the only one b/c i'm trying to trade with someone in the same situation.
Look at Wampum's note, he said it took 3 days, 30 reloads and 36 TX to get one send to work. It sounds like my TX did go through, and I ended up sending more cards than I wanted to because I didn't have visibility into what was actually happening. -
The reason for the downtime has been explained to you numerous times, and yet rather than accepting it and waiting for the problem to resolve itself (mempool drop in usage), you want to continue to come here and complain a BUNCH about things which have been explained to you numerous times. It gets exhausting... took almost a month of you complaining about counterwallet to get you to FINALLY use Freewallet.. now that your using Freewallet, anytime it does not work immediately to send your complaining about how Counterparty sucks and how it is all broken and other negative shit. It gets exhausting listening to your constant complaining
-
i've been complaining about Counterwallet for 3 years.
-
Yeah, as have I.. it is a horribly designed wallet which sucks... hence why I wrote FreeWallet, cuz I couldn't stand to use counterwallet anymore.... others have done the same.. Joe wrote Freeport... people who are unhappy and actually want to make things better are contributing more than harsh words and criticisms.
-
Thank you for all your help j-dog. I'm not criticizing you. I've worked on products in the past, I figured that people would want to know when something isn't working. I'll just suffer in silance.
-
At this point it seems the choke point is Freewallet needing to have a Counterparty API up in order to generate transactions.... if the CP API goes down, then freewallet is unable to generate transactions.... this has not been a big issue in the past up until this week with all the CP API downtime.... so I will work on updating freewallet to remove the dependency on the CP API being up and will try to get all the transactions to be generated inside the wallet with no external calls.
-
If you want to help, please log your issues in a github issue and wait for a response... 1.) it will for sure get a response 2.) it will stay open until the issue is fixed ... 3.) You don't sound like a broken record constantly complaining about it not working or fees.

At this point 99.9% of your issues are jsut being caused by the CP API and a large mempool... once the mempooll drops back to around 10-15K transactions, things should start working normally again
-
-
i concur, most issues get solved eventually on any of the ecosystem's projects
-
-
-
I believe it. I'll log my next issue once I'm brave enough to transact again

Should Counterwallet.io be removed from https://counterparty.io/wallets/? Indie Square's description makes it sound like there's a working dex, which I don't think it has anymore, right?
-
nope, the dex was removed from ISW

three years of such emboldened conflations has become tiresome.
i have attempted to help you see beyond the end of your nose but you continually try to rend my message. im no longer tossing pearls in your general direction. get a new sock im done smelling this one -
-
Patience can never be attained as it is a virtue who's invitation to practice is more often than recognized. please forgive me if I do not have the emotional fortitude to continually interact with an onslaught of insecurities based on fallacies when confronted with the opportunity for growth of understanding.
-
while it is true that I was elected to the foundation and act on the behalf of the betterment of the entire protocol, this account is, has and always will be my personal account. I cannot believe i have to say this but: anything i say does not represent anyone or anything else. these messages are my own
It seems to me we came to this space around the same time. So I have to ask if you think you're participating on the same level of dedication then any of your peers you associate with beyond your farms. But I won't because I expect your responses to continually mangle the conversation in order to never get any traction of understanding shared.
If your talent is creating conflict from your own ignorance, then i think you should reconsider those actions being beneficial to anyone. Thanks -

Also, I have written a monitoring script for Counterparty which detects when the API goes down for more than a few minutes and restarts counterparty.... this is not ideal, but it should help keep the API up and functioning the majority of the time while we are dealing with this huge mempool that has been causing issues for the past week or so.... TL;DR... should have less issues when trying to use freewallet.io desktop wallet 🙂

Testnet is just for testing bitcoin/counterparty transactions and is not really meant to be used for long-term storage... also it is nowhere near as secure as the main chain, has a much lower difficulty, and other issues like blocks being spammed every minutes occasionally. Bitcoin Testnet is also reset occasionally by the devs (tho it has been a few years)..... TLDR.. testnet is really only meant for testing.

coinmarketcap shows a single market pair - Zaif (xcp/jpy). Does anyone here communicate with coinmarketcap on behalf of XCP?
-
Not that I am aware of. I am considering updating the price on xchain.io to be the last DEX/Dispenser price since we are not traded on traditional centralized exchanges much.
-
At one point, coinmarketcap had support for the DEX and all the DEX trading volume counted towards the daily volume.... but then they removed DEX support a few years ago 🙁

recent pricing in btc from both dispensers and theDEX would be a nice indicator of current value
