I am not sure on this as I have not used the quick access stuff... you might be able to dig through the counterwallet code and see how it translates your quick-access code into a seed

I’m able to open my wallet using quick access code

no, it allows to create HUGE messages, allowing for example sending multiple assets to multiple addresses in "one" (in reality 2) TXs

unlike theDEX, dispensers are made for btc.
from a user pov they send btc to your account, and the set amt of tokens gets sent back to them from the protocol. Each dispenser is like a contract. there are set number of XXXX token at set price until they are gone. no change is given. I began a write up, but have yet to polish it up -
Dispensers are a new feature like a vending machine, you send it btc and it credits your address with a token, or many tokens, in a single transaction. This allows people to setup vending machines to sell tokens or packs of tokens for BTC without having to use the DEX ( which requires at least 2 txs, one to place the order, and one to send a btc payment when the order is matched). You can lean more about dispensers at https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/cips/blob/cip21/cip-0021.mdcips/cip-0021.md at cip21 · CounterpartyXCP/cips

Hey guys, I have a fednode I run 24/7 ( or try too.. ), but it crashes CONSTANTLY with the error
No such mempool or blockchain transaction. Use gettransaction for wallet transactions
is there any resolution to this? -
You sure your on the latest? John recently did a bunch of misc fixes

fednode rebuild counterparty counterparty-testnet -
that should pull down the latest updates and rebuild your counterparty containers.

I too had that issue with CP crashing pretty consistently about a month ago (usually under pretty decent mempool size of 20K+ transactions).... over the last month, havent had nearly as many issues keeping CP up
-
FYI... I just pushed out a MPMA tool for those interested in sending out many assets in a single transaction.
-
-
Counterparty MPMA Send Tool
Recently the Multi-Peer-Multi-Asset (MPMA) feature has been added to Counterparty which allows users to send many assets to many addresses in a single transactions, unfortunately due to counterwallet being outdated and difficult to maintain, the MPMA feature was not integrated into Counterwallet, so while the new feature works great, there is currently not any way to send MPMA transactions. I have been working on getting MPMA support integrated into freewallet desktop and expect to put out a ne...

Can we change any of these currencies into the main coin on the blockchain (Btc)
-
It would be a big help if anyone knows
-
You can trade any counterparty token for BTC either via the Decentralized Exchange (DEX) or via setting up a dispenser
-
Dispenser? That sounds interesting
-
Yep, think of a dispenser like a vending machine. You tell it how many tokens to put in the vending machine, how many tokens to sell on each dispense/vend, and how much BTC each vend costs.... after that you can just forget about the dispenser... anytime someone sends your dispenser the correct amount of BTC (or more), the dispenser will automatically send the token back to the user.... all in a single transaction :)
-
-
You can check out a list of dispensers at https://xchain.io/dispensers
-
Thanks for the in fo broski! I'm on it
-
I'll be trying both out tonight
-
DEX supports BTC now?
-
Not the Dex, just the dispensers
-
Yes, the DEX has always supported BTC, however it requires 2 transactions in the case of paying with BTC, and once an order matches the buyer has 20 blocks to send the BTC before the order match expires.... TL;DR... using BTC on the dex has traditionally been a bit of a pain, so not many people use it
-
THat being said, freewallet desktop has full support for using BTC on the dex, as long as you leave the wallet open to monitor for order matches and automatically send the BTC
-
-
Could xcp tokens be used with btc lightning network or does that not make sense with op return code?
-
No, XCP tokens can not be used with LN at this time
- 22 February 2020 (24 messages)
-
Thank you!
-
Are there any XCP token trade groups? I would love to pick up some ZUCCHINIS
-
Also I'm curious how freeport embeds images so they are read by xchain etc. Is the image data somewhere in the btc blockchain?
-
the image data and artwork name are stored in the asset description..... like imgur/IMAGENAME.png;ARTWORK TITLE
-
freeport handles uploading the image to imgur and setting the asset description properly.... xchain just detects this specialized asset description format and parses it in and displays the image/artwork/title
-
is that a web URI or is the actual image stored in the chain?
-
exactly - I see "imgur/2nqobXZ.png;DabVille1"
-
only a refence to the image is stored on the blockchain... the image itself is stored at imgur
-
so.. if they go away, so does the images
-
that's what confused me - when I saw imgur I thought anyone could just throw a URL in the token create page of freewallet. But freeport doesn't generate a URL
-
you can update your asset description to that same format using freewallet if you want.... you just need to know the image name at imgur.
-
freeport just makes it very simple to do it in a point-and-click interface :)
-
Okay I'm not too familiar with imgur but the asset description links to imgur's directory? So if you knew another image hosting you could use theirs or is there something unique about imgur?
-
imgur is just a site where you can upload an image and reference it... just image storage.
-
You could probably do something similar with ipfs/FILENAME.png;ARTWORK TITLE..... as long as the asset description prefix is something standardized like 'imgur/' or 'ipfs/', then I can update xchain to load the data based on the prefix.
-
currently only 'imgur/' is supported.... but adding support for something like 'ipfs/' would be trivial :)
-
Okay thank you - that's worthwhile imo - I can look into whether there is standard syntax between imgur and ipfs

I am doing a full reparse of counterparty2mysql since I found an issue... it will be up again shortly
-
There is a big header on every page of the site indicating that there is maintenance going on :P
-
-
Some people say that ZUCCHINIS are the fourth sister
-
long updating... something happened?
-
yes, full reparses take a while. Nothing happened, I just identified an issue with counterparty2mysql and it not handling reorgs properly resulting in incorrect messages in the messages table... so I am doing a full reparse of all the data and recreating the mysql data.... it doesn't happen very often... the last time was 5 years ago.... probably will take another day or two to catch back up fully.... unfortunately not much I can do to speed it up as getting data from the counterparty API is the bottleneck at this point.... takes between 0-15 seconds to lookup block data and parse it in
-
A number of projects use the counterparty2mysql database tool, so it is important for me to do a full-reparse and then update my bootstrap images so that no one else has to do what I am doing now.... and they can just quickly load the bootstrap data up without needing to reparse for multiple days.
-
Thank you for your efforts!
-
Poor HIMAWARI
-
do you think xcp tokens created during this refactor will get saved or need recreating?
-
it got nothing to do with the main counterparty repo
-
it's just for users of the counterparty2mysql repo.... i.e. xchain.io
-
Correct... counterparty itself is fine and nothing is changing, this is just a reparse of all the data stored in counterparty to a MySQL database (which is what xchain uses). Sorry for the inconvenience, but necessary.
-
Ok thank you - I don't see my xcp assets in freewallet or rare . estate - I'll check again when the update done - hopefully no issue - thank you!
-
I noticed pimpslapper is removing your comments with links Johnr.... I tweaked your permissions so he shouldn't do that to ya anymore
-
yes, RPW and rare.estate use xchain APIs... so they are effected as well until the reparse is complete.... currently parsing data from 4 years ago... 2 years down, 4 to go
-
Okay thank you btw @jdogresorg
-
And that's good to know. Understand it takes time. Just didn't know what info was coming from where.
-
- 24 February 2020 (20 messages)
-
no. counterwallet's issue has to do with indexd being slow.
-
-
-
-
Reparsing is taking much longer than expected. I'll be restoring the old database and catching up blocks in anotehr hour or two.... then i'll continue my reparse in the background.... tl;dr... xchain should be back to normal in a few hours.
-
-
-
-
-
xchain.io is back up and showing current info.... reparse continuing in the background into a separate database... will swap the new database into place when it is done reparsing (will take 5-10 minutes to import all the data at once vs waiting another 3-4 days to reparse all the data block by block)
-
👍

hello
-
-
Guys/Girls whats the best way to buy XCP?
-
hello
-
Thank you! Awesome description of those updates - looking forward to playing with it!
-
All, this is the description of Counteryparty on wikipedia - "Counterparty is a peer-to-peer financial platform and distributed, open source Internet protocol built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain and network. It was one of the most well-known "Bitcoin 2.0" platforms in 2014, along with Mastercoin, Ethereum, Colored Coins, Ripple and BitShares."
-
Two questions. 1) Do you think this is the most accurate description of the protocol? 2) I was on the BitShares committee for a year and a half but was booted when the governance was hijacked by a Chinese cartel (serious). I'm looking for a healthier community to work with that's more aligned with my principles. I am American with econ and law degrees. What is the best way for me to support Counterparty?
-
To elicit the most direct influence purchasing xcp tokens and campaigning at the next election is the textbook route.
We also have an existing CIP process where improvements can be formerly proposed and financed after being discussed on the official message board.
For a more personal approach, see pm -
Thank you!
-
Remember you only need XCP for tokens with alphabetic names.
You can also mint alphanumeric 'free' tokens by just paying the btc tx fee -
You also need XCP to pay for dividends... You also need XCP to pay the anti-spam fee on sweeps... You also can use XCP for Betting... XCP is also the base currency used on the DEX.... while XCP is not necessary for every feature of Counterparty, it does serve a purpose and is used more places than just alphabetic asset registrations.
-
the "XCP is uneeded" meme is very Warren Buffet talking about how BTC is rat posion IMO
-
-
Yes sure but i know Chief is here to tokenize some art.
Not to bet or pay dividends or any of that -
It is not a meme. It is a juvenile attempt at being discordian
-
-
Perhaps you are actually asking how to get involved publishing content?
-
-
-
You can purchase XCP on the Counterparty DEX for BTC in the XCP/BTC market. https://i.gyazo.com/83378eecbb9b8f704eb70850fe43484a.png

You also can purchase XCP directly from dispensers ... https://i.gyazo.com/85d785c0930ee81bba638a60603afca1.png

Still like a dream

I still have some work to do on xchain and getting the market information to update nicely... I've noticed some markets that indicate 24-hours trade volume which haven't had trades in years... but yeah, its all coming along nicely :)
-
@jdogresorg do you own this asset? https://xchain.io/asset/BLACKBOX (I see the address is 1Jdog)

Yep prolly me... I own over 15k asset names so tough to keep track of them all... if you want to make an offer to buy, head over to coindaddy.io and put in a request or DM me with a fair price.

Yes Gus, we chatted before I jumped on here
I'm looking to register my physical crypto art on the bitcoin blockchain... I like Ethereum, it's cool, but I'm 99% a maximalist and I know where I want to store anything of real value
jdogresorg thank you mate 🙏... yes I can see XCP is needed for a variety of things that I have yet to explore... I now know where to come when I get stuck... which is just a matter of time lol -
👍

i'd send you enough free XCP to make an asset

Cut to the creation section: Intro To create Bitcoin NFTs you need to use Counterparty, which is a community protocol on top of Bitcoin.

🙏 thank you my friend... Quentin has already sorted me out... huge appreciation though
-
i haven't and right now I can't because we are trying to start a charity to support counterparty and doing that and then spamming shit like "list muh token" is not a good look in terms of the SEC and CFTC
-
we better find some small exchange like tux (😢) for a start
-
-
-
hmmm OK I see your point... perhaps spamming is too strong a word... A humourous intelligent poster... that flatters CZ... the saviour, the supporter of the underdog, the giver of hope... give him a 6-pack and buffed abs... gorgeous girls/guys hanging off him... goes viral 😉
-
-
some CryptoArt?
-
-
-
graphics like that aren't my skill but I'll give it a shot 😂
it'll be fun to mess about with photoshop -
-
pure quality for a beginner like me
-
Please, no
-
Binance has an xcp node
-
They supported TRIG asset
-
And i helped them get their tokens out in a timely manner
-
And they are watching the project
-
So, please, don't bother CZ or any binance representative
-
It will get listed eventually, plan for the long game
-
-
Play it smart... stack XCP sats for the future :)
-
-
Prolly not enough volume to support the dev/support costs.... AFAIK chainrift refused to pay the exchange fee to CMC to be listed on their website (Yes, coins must pay exchanges to get listed.... and exchanges must pay coinmarketcap.com to be listed... shady behavior on the part of CMC if you ask me).
-
Welcome to the community, glad to have you... and also glad you know where to store your projects for the long-term... we love maximalists here... and tolerate ETHheads :P
-
Make sure you check out Joe Looney's great counterparty wallet at freeport.io... it is specifically geared towards art people like yourself and makes creating/tokenizing artwork on BTC pretty damn easy :)
-
Also make sure you check out dispensers (support coming soon to freeport.io in the near future).... think of them like vending machines to sell your artwork directly for BTC.... rain or shine, your dispensers/vending machine is there to sell your artwork wether your online or not :)

Is there some directory for who has developed what tools on xcp? In one week alone I’ve used Freeport, freewallet, and rare.estate and all are awesome but their creators deserve more cred!
-
-
There is a list of some of the main developers building stuff on CP, a list of some of the stuff they have built, and a donation address that goes directly to them :)
-
I don't see that in CIP
-
maybe just some little flirtatious we love you photoshopping images 🙏
harmless pleasers 😉
showing him some love 😘 -
-
-
-
wow that rare . estate is so simple its brilliant... now all I want is to put them into groups and play them in rotation full screen... real world NFT gallery done 👍
-
Cool! I'm working on a similar project. What kind of art are you working with?
-
Great will check that out tonight thank you!

Hello
-
Hi
-
Does the testnet currently use EVM?
-
-
No, we had ported the EVM to work on Counterparty and were about to launch it live a few years ago, then the DAO fork and other security issues with ETH happened and we decided it was too unstable to risk the stability of the entire platform an experimental EVM feature, so we shelved the EVM code.
-
There has been some discussion about writing a VM for counterparty, you can find that discussion here. https://counterpartytalk.org/t/proof-of-concept-vm-development/3031Proof-of-concept VM Development
So i’ve recently started to develop a minimal pure python Virtual Machine tailored specifically for counterparty. I’m starting this thread to keep note of development and design decisions, and also to get input from the community regarding what should the VM do. FAQ Why not use EVM? EVM was designed with ethereum blocktimes and specifics in mind. CP has already a lot of groundwork regarding tokens, bets and a lot of useful functions that don’t need to be recoded in a smart contract. Isn’t...
-
the CPVM could be revived if there's enough interest & funding, now that we have P2SH messages
-
i estimate that it could be near $30k for initial development with some very useful features
-
and about 6 months of work, if ppl seem interested, i can write up a proposal
-
-
LN is a little bit more complicated, i still haven't found a way to comfortably say we can support LN on counterparty
-
LN mostly needs utxo based balances, counterparty is ledger based
-
Please do. I know an active dev is trying to tackle that problem on his own for a contract he's trying to fulfill.
I know I'd really like to see the addition of logic in transactions at a minimum -
i'm thinking a full blown vm can be developed with a lot of logic in there
-
There was also a micropayment hub solution for counterparty which was developed a few years ago called picopayments.... tho it never got fully reviewed/merged into CP codebase.... but you can feel free to take a look at the code at https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/picopayments-hubGitHub - CounterpartyXCP/picopayments-hub: Counterparty micropayment channels
Counterparty micropayment channels. Contribute to CounterpartyXCP/picopayments-hub development by creating an account on GitHub.

With some large institutions getting into NFTs what do you think this will mean for the more mature blockchain protocols (like xcp)?

Investing in Roblox
Gaming has gone from a niche hobby to a massive global industry across all demographics and well beyond outdated, narrow stereotypes of “gamers”. In fact, games are not even just “games” any longer, but a form of entertainment — the …

I would be interested in a proposal for making counterwallet faster and more reliable.
-
counterwallet isn't salvageable
-
counterwallet uses:
- knockout.js, a deprecated framework
- bitcore, a deprecated version by bitpay, the same guys that threatened bitcoin with segwit2x and intentiontally left some of their features in a state of disrepair to damage bitcoin's name
- bower, a deprecated package management for javascript -
also, indexd-server uses an old version of indexd, which in turn isn't compatible with the latest stuff, and there's esplora which is maintained by blockstream and could replace indexd-server
-
so, the course would be:
- replace indexd with esplora on the software stack, and spare our limited workforce from maintaining an additional piece of software
- code a new wallet with a newer framework (i would suggest react as i'm well versed into it)
- drop counterblock/mongodb/armory dependencies -
and maybe, finally, merge counterparty-cli with counterparty-lib
-
these all are tasks that need a lot of work
-
additionally, adding support for message querying so we can implement light clients and support for zmq on counterparty-lib to lower cpu/disk requirements
-
as it is, counterparty-lib is IO heavy
-
even if there's 0 activity
-
and finally.... pointing out the elephant in the room, changing the db backend from sqlite to something more manageable
-
i would suggest mariadb, it's "heavier" but it's more performant.... some blocks take 5 minutes to process, and most if not all of the time is spent on sqlite checking stuff
-
-
-
-
that could be solved by replacing indexd with esplora
-
they are NOT interchangeable
-
How hard is that?
-
a new backend needs to be made, it isn't consensus affecting, fortunately
-
but the software stack changes... that means exchanges will be affected
-
fortunately tho....
-
-
also, there's freewallet that's working perfectly
-
-
-
-
So what sort of scripting can be done on Counterparty?
-
nothing atm
-
think jdog released mpma support in the last version @jdog
-
@jdogresorg
-
Yes, I did release support for Multi-Peer-Multi-Asset (MPMA) sends in the latest freewallet desktop release.
-
@Superart 👆
-
I believe that art wants a UI that displays all the addresses associated with the wallet at once, not just one address at a time like freewallet does
-
aaah that would make sense
-
like counterwallet does, right?
-
yes
-
-
The cause of why it is slow.... requesting address history and balances for so many addresses... beating the heck out of indexd :P
-
yup
-
poor indexd
