proof of stake for xcp? :D
-
can anyone explain this better?
-
If he's a nobody, just ban
-
Proof of burn means nothing
-
Explain that to me like I'm 5.
Then do the same for proof of stake shitcoins 🙏 -
-
Proof of burn was the initial burning of btc to prove that the initial adopters were willing to put their money where their mouths were. It doesn't show that goodwill today, since it happened at one time historically. It neither puts any kind of pressure on the price of xcp. That btc is just gone.
PoS, don't they give you a theoretical chance of a payout? -
Po's = unlimited manipulation of circulation number.
POB= never able to create more and can only destroy/ make rest worth more -
-
-
Without proof of burn, XCP would be a shitcoin
-
-
What does it actually do after it was closed?

"the law of conservation of energy, which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can only be transformed from one form to another."
Counterparty follows the law of conservation of energy. The burned #Bitcoins sent to an unspendable address are not gone, they are merely transformed into another energy force.

What is this some kind of numerology
-
The value of those btc is now 0
-
The value of the resulting xcp is now unrelated to bt those btc.
-
like I said - hard for fiat mindset people to understand this concept. you dont understand physics my fren
-
Lmao
-
-
You don't show that there is any connection. You're just mapping your occult concepts on to crypto.
-
-
Memetics are important in crypto. Narratives are important. I’d argue they’re likely more important than technicals. I think with the upcoming launch of Fair Minting, there will be a renewed interest in the OG Fair Mint
-
Of course narratives are important, but you also have to be able to suspend disbelief.
-
its true knowledge of physics is def an occult practice in todays clown world
-
-
XCP at least should be the same mcap of the burned bitcoins
-
So xcp is pinned to btc, like tether is pinned to usd?
-
Sounds like an alpha opportunity
-
"Should", but it doesn't cause any pressure on the price in that direction
-
Yeah, you probably ‘shouldn’t’ get any.
🤓 -
So the knock against most shitcoins is that they attempt to breach the digital scarcity of Bitcoin. This is why they are hated. But XCP, by contrast, took a bunch of Bitcoin out of commission forever. So it did the opposite: made Bitcoin more scarce. So it’s a shitcoin that can be embraced. 😁
-
-
It's a good origin story
-
Knew youd have a hard time with this 🤣
-
I’m defending it, bud.
-
The knock is that shitcoins breach the laws of nature
-
But are you defending it *physically*?
-
You are missing the point
-
You just live inside your own mind. It doesn't make any sense to outsiders.
-
-
Let me guess u are a stamps guy 🤣
-
-
-
No.. I don't mind it, except the hostilities, but I never got into it.

The path is narrow

IMO, Proof of burn is critical to the founding and ongoing success of XCP. It's proof of principals via proof of work.
The founding devs needed a native coin to properly incentivize the network, and proof of burn was the most fair way they came up with to distribute. Its genius really. If they would have just given the coins away for free, then they were created out of thin air, there is no proof of work and its a shitcoin. If they had an ICO, it would have gone against the principals of the project and poisoned the community with greed and jealousy. Verifiably burning something that takes work to acquire was the solution.
In the end, there will only be room for one tokenization protocol to prevail, just like there is only one internet, one email, and one cryptocurrency (there is no second best). Of course the technology matters (built on btc, decentralized exchange, convenient wallet integration, etc) but the verifiable principals and origin story are going to be what makes Counterparty the ultimate winner. -

Technicals are most important, someone should tell the marketing team.
-
Really depends on goals. If a great tech stack languishes in obscurity with little use, is it really that “great”?
There’s a saying: the best camera is the one you have with you. Doesn’t matter if you’ve got a fancy pro DSLR camera at home, when the phone in your pocket is the one you’re going to take the photo with.
I’d argue that network effect is critical to any protocol particularly in crypto. The best protocol is the one that reaches mass adoption. The “technicals” are implementation details. -
FORCE trumps ALL. The network effect of shitcoin L2's backed by nothing (eth, pos) = ZERO warfighting abilities in cyber space. gl

Good that I see you here Mike, asked you on twitter a question regarding pruning. Now I want to add on that: Just looking at ownership. Refined it a bit with Chat gpt, would you agree on this ownership assesment or do you have a different view?
-
-
yes
-
ah damn, can`t pos the whole text
-
let`s try that:
-
Conclusion on Ownership:
Your argument is insightful and valid: with Ordinals, you own the inscribed satoshi but not the inscription itself in a permanent, direct sense, since the data is embedded in the witness data of a spent UTXO. This leads to a form of ownership that is more conceptual than actual because the input UTXO with the data is no longer active, and the witness data can be pruned.
On the other hand, Bitcoin Stamps embed the data in the actual transaction (via OP_RETURN), making ownership of the data more tangible and permanent, even if OP_RETURN data can be pruned by some nodes. -
I'm not against this interpretation, but it gets a little too meta for me. I'd have to think about it a bit.

Which factors drive XCP price appreciation?
I can think of:
Bitcoin price appreciation.
Buying and holding XCP.
Volume of counterparty transactions?
Am i right? Anything else? -
Demand for Rare Pepes and the like drives the price of XCP up, especially if there are a lot listed for XCP
-
The minting features being added, you have the option of making XCP what you need to pay or burn to mint. You'll also lock your XCP in escrow for the duration of the mint.
And the utxo attach feature being added this month also requires XCP as a gas fee, if there is enough transactional demand to apply it. -

The opposite is true also, I don’t want to sell when I only have X XCP but if I had 1,000,000, I don’t mind giving up a few
-
yes but "you" think only for yourself if you think like this because there are many new people that wants to buy a big chunk of XCP and with the current supply is not possible .. even because i would say 30%? of supply is lost forever .. we need a "split" on supply from my point of view otherwise we would have not so many new people jumping in
-
you are ok with the current supply cause you have already a bag probably

ah so you like the idea to add 2 0 to supply?

yeah ofc not adding

for example you have 100 xcp now , after split it becomes 10k

📢 New Release! #Counterparty Core v10.4.2: https://t.co/0QqWAHvRJD. This is a hotfix release that addresses a few important bugs, such as regressions in the v1 API and disabling P2SH transaction encoding, which was causing issues with MPMA transactions. If you're running a
-
-
-
-
Eh?
-
MPMA sends use P2SH encoding... in the latest version 10.4, users of freewallet were having issues, I pointed these issues out, and the solution is to disable P2SH encoding apparently. So, just asking for clarification, do MPMA Sends still work in this new 10.4.2 release? @teysol
-
-
MPMA Issues: First TX Succeeds Second TX Fails · Issue #2270 · CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-core
Getting reports that there is a regression in Core > v9.61.3:
-
Cuz from my perspective... it sure looks like you just forced a change into 10.4.2, which breaks MPMA sends, and requires wallets to update.... interesting how FreeWallet is the only wallet that supports MPMA, lots of users use it, and now all of a sudden a change is put out which requires a wallet update and breaks MPMA for users..... if that is not the case, then please speak up. @teysol
-
-
@BrrrGuy No, I don’t think that’s the case at all, but better wait for clarification from Adam or Evan
-
disabling p2sh encoding immediately without any activation date or warning is bullshit... I am fine with migrating to a new data encoding method, like multisig, but this should be planned and discussed and an activation block set so developers have time to make necessary updates.... and yes, still waiting on clarification from Adam...
-
No, it should become variable in the future. Like gas on EVM
-
Is this multi-send?
-
yes. MPMA = Multi Peer Mult Asset sends, which have always used P2SH to encode data. This latest release immediately removes P2SH encoding. Best case scenario, multisig encoding will work and Freewallet will need to make immediate changes.... Worst case scenario, MPMAs are broken until multisig encoding works... immediately depreciating an encoding method without any plan or activation block seems very sus.
-
-
-
Thank you for the clarification. I will make the necessary updates to FreeWallet in the next few days. In the future it would be great if you would set activation blocks before depreciating an encoding method. Makes it tough for devs to want to build on the platform when the ground shifts under their feet without any notice.
-
-
There’s no need for activation, this is an optional api change and backwards compatible…
-
Cool, so it doesn't immediately depreciate an encoding method that has been used for years, and require immediate updates to wallets that rely on the p2sh encoding method?!? lol.... stop trying to spin it. I am fine with updating to multisig encoding, but again, changes like this should be PLANNED, not immediate.
-
-
-
None
-
-
cmon bro... i'm playing nice, i'll go along with your "just use multisig" solution, but lets not pretend this wasn't an immediate change to depreciate an encoding method, and that if freewallet was pointing to a 10.4.2 node now, it wouldn't require an immediate update to freewallet (no P2SH encoding in 10.4.2) to switch to multisig.
-
-
-
freewallet does mpmas... mpmas are always p2sh... which require 2 transactions, so not the fire n forget (api call / sign / broadcast) that multisig is
-
-
-
-
-
-
dotn want to bicker anymore, or play semantics games... i'll switch to multisig, but IMO this was bad form on your part to take an issue with 10.4 p2sh encoding and have the solution be to just immediately depreciate the encoding.... we can agree to disagree... back to lurking.
-
-
Hey, what’s the limit on a multisend? It’s probably a little different if you’re sending a single asset vs different assets, but where does it start to max out.
-
-
With P2SH encoding Javier and I tested up to 1000 sends successfully… and I believe in the repo there is a harcoded thousand send limit.
However, now that users have to use multisig encoding, probably much less than that, as you can’t fit as much data into multisig outputs as you can in P2SH….. so the end result is multisig mpma sends will be much larger txs, and require more Bitcoin to be put in each of those outputs…
And gathering the BTC from those multisig transaction outputs also will be more expensive since there are many more outputs required to encode the data.
Hopefully support for storing data in the witness area (taproot) is added to counterparty soon…. Until then, MPMA sends just got a lot more expensive🤷🏻♂️ -
I did more 160+)
-
bitcoin core itself literally does not support the encoding anymore…Bitcoin core is the ultimate source of truth here, and we have to adhere to it. Also repeating again these changes are optional and backwards compatible in the api:
-
Just to clarify for everyone, should people react here or on GitHub?
-
can you point me to the announcement or release notes on bitcoin core where they say that p2sh encoding / decoding is being depreciated? I am not finding anything.
-
-

So if I'm understanding correctly, that means that the bitcoin core node was rejecting it. The issue you reported with MPMA sends being rejected needs to be fixed by replacing this deprecated function, which has had a more secure replacement since at least the first SegWit block in 2017.
-
on GitHub (or both) 🙏

OK - sorry for the bad reference earlier and thanks for the polite corrections, everyone. I'm just a community member trying to help out people with questions, and I know you guys are busy with your community projects so aren't able to read through the documentation to the same degree.
I read through Ouziel's issue (which is actually really well documented for the technical people who are raising this question, I'll link at the bottom). It's more subtle than that p2sh encoding is not allowed, which is what the SV link mandated. It's BIP147. That BIP mandates that the p2sh multisig dummy stack element that was previously allowed to be any value because it wasn't checked now must now (as of 7 years ago) be NULL/empty array in a soft fork. So the multisig format had to be changed because it was using a non-null dummy stack element. This is a stop-gap solution to p2wsh. The other option would be leaving MPMA sends flakey until p2wsh is live.

good point! apart of that: Regarding efficiency they are probably about the same? Both within op_return, any other differences they have?

Counterparty is more powerful. The protocol can escrow, allowing much more functionality

If you want to buy 100 XCP and 5 people are selling it, you can buy all 100 from 5 people in a single transaction

It’s all on Tron these days. Not sure it’s even economical to do it on Bitcoin L1 given block times and fees. And since you’re implicitly trusting a 3rd party, you don’t really even need the security assurances of Bitcoin.
-
Not day trade, but a trade here and there at tops and bottoms without leaving the BTC network.
Trusting a 3rd party sure, but using an exchange, your trusting the exchange and the 3rd party -
-
Yup, need to flee the US to do it
-
Even with the licenses, you still need white lists for KYC to comply which CP doesn’t have
-
-
-
-
-
I could issue shares for a company on CP, but I couldn’t ever do it legally without a whitelist.
The people on the whitelist could trade with each other, I think that would be fine, but once the token leaves the group that was KYC’ed, I think that’s when the problems start.
Right now, there is no way to prevent that from happening if you did issue shares on CP. -
If only those on the whitelist can trade with one another and their addresses are all known, effectively you have an accounting record of all balances at all times. The rationale for doing any of this on a blockchain with tokens doesn’t seem to make sense as any sort of “efficiency” over just keeping it all in a permissioned database.

Not compatible currently. Use another address type or lose your funds.
-
so for example i got a copy of mingie's card BLOCPEPE from an addy that is a taproot address. i intend on keeping the card, i love mingie's cards. but what would happen if i put it in a dispenser? if someone dispensed it would it strip other things out of my wallet as well?
-
-
this is a Segwit address (starts with bc1q) .... taproot addresses start with bc1p - which can be confusing because of the "p" and "q"
right now it is not supported by any wallet to create a dispenser on a taproot address.... to follow taproot upgrades keep an eye on the Milestones tab in the Counterparty Github - as Taproot address support is under the "v11.1.0 (Protocol Change — Address Support and TX Format)" future update
https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-core/milestonesMilestones - CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-coreCounterparty Protocol Reference Implementation. Contribute to CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-core development by creating an account on GitHub.
-
and no, setting up a dispenser will not "strip other things out of your wallet" - a dispenser only functions when set up by the user for that specific asset.... meaning only that specific asset can be 'dispensed' because you set it up that way
this User Manual entry for Freewallet (freewallet.io) should give you a good understanding of how they work:

Hey yall 👋
Noob here using XCP dispensers for the first time.
If I want to buy multple XCP but the give quanitiy says 1.
How do I get multiple?
Do I just times the amount by how many XCP I want and the system does the math on the other side? -
Yes
-
Ty. And give remaining is straight forward.
Is there any potential issue of a limited amount remaining and multiple people sending in the same block? -
Yes. The first tx to be included will get it
-
-
Excellent. And how are you guys calculating sats/vbyte in Freewallet?
-
Or does setting to High do it automatically.
-
-
How do you get your TX size tho
-
-
FYI For dispensers on the verified list (see below), I can help resolve any front running issues as I have verified each dispenser operator

@Jake_Blockchain Also, OTC is often cheaper than dispensers for larger (2000+ XCP) purchases - If needed, feel free to DM for current quotes and details
-
newest version calculates the sats/vb in the wallet - but it is best to use a higher fee than the "high" fee setting to be safe
check the user manual at freewallet.io for an in depth explanation of all FW features ❤️ -
Also check the fee graphs if the mempool, you can't be sure otherwise

If somebody wants to sell around this price (or all the way down to $20) LMK

Same. I'll def drop $20 on a Nakamoto

If anyone wants to trade 50% of the supply of my card CHAMPAGNETNT (50,000 of 100,000 supply) for 1 NAKAMOTO, I'm also up for that trade.

go to 11:30 and tell me if Adam said “Bitcorn”
-
he did
-
my wife and I laughed at it
-
Glad to be part of this great comunity.
-
Adam also said that creating a named asset was 2 xcp but that’s not correct.
it’s .5 xcp -
That interview didn’t talk at all about the single biggest characteristic of Counterparty.
Proof of Burn.
The fact that actual btc was burned to create XCP the native token is actually incredible.
There is no other token like it.
And that the XCP Token is also fixed in supply with a scarcer supply than that of btc is also remarkable.
When these two concepts are being realized in the tokenization of real world assets, the value of XCP will be incredible! -
Do you think that matters in 2024?
-
Im not sure people value that narrative
-
What makes btc valuable?
-
What differentiates xcp from etherium ?
It’s built on pow instead of fiat (pos).
Also, the supply is provably scarce. Finite.
Poburn secures xcp to the btc network’s security so it is as secure as btc (eth, not secure, not decentralized)
These aren’t narratives. These are objective facts.
When something is
1. As decentralized as btc on btc
2. As secure as Btc (nothing else comes close)
3. More scarce than even btc
4. Has the ability to leverage btc to tokenize assets and etc.
These facts make it fundamentally different than everything else.
As the eth falls, xcp rises. -
-
The more I learn about xcp the more obvious it is just the winner
-
About 3) what about stacks?
-
It, like btc is a black hole, will suck in all technologies on eth etc into itself.
-
I meant about security :)
If you have a opinion or knowledge compared to XCP -
Haven’t looked into it much. The supply is considerably higher than xcp…
-
OK thy
-
:)
-
xcp bot is down since 2 days :/
-
Stax doing pow on top of btc’s pow is redundant.
Seems inferior to just using btc’s pow and creating the token with a poburn.
Also it’s ico of pre mined 15% tokens to the founders is inferior to poburn. -
Meanwhile this is running fine:

Reconcile.. -

thank you for telling you this...I've been having fun on Counterparty since 2014

You certainly know way more than me. 🙏
Wasn't trying to tell you anything.
Was speaking to the point that CP doesn't need salesman.
Wasn't meant as a dick measuring contest sort of a comment, it was meant as a high five sort of comment.....
The "reconcile" wasn't for those that know about CP. It was for those that don't.
Ftw....

@Niftyboss1 Did the OTC chat get deleted?

gm gm

Yes a number of groups (including the XCP and PEPECASH OTC chats) and users suddenly got deleted for no obvious reason in the last few days

The issue doesn’t seem to be Counterparty-specific BTW - many users are reporting random bans

Hopefully just a technical glitch that will be resolved soon (?)

Got it, thank you.

Many experiments pre-stamps though the only thing I can think of as a “full collection” using onchain art is PUNYCODES which I ran. It’s all emojis essentially so it’s sort of debatable whether they are philosophically onchain or not

Horizon wallet (counterwallet compatible, open source)
-
Adam in Official Counterparty Chat
🎊 ANNOUNCEMENT 🎊 Unspendable Labs has just launched *Horizon Wallet*, a modern Counterparty wallet available at https://wallet.unspendablelabs.com Right now it's a pure web wallet, but it'll soon be a downloadable web extension that lives in your browser, and we'll also be releasing a native mobile version soon. Current functionality is basically just Send + Issue, but you'll be able to import your seed phrase / private keys from Counterwallet or any other Counterparty wallet. Over the coming months we'll be implementing all of the core functionality of Counterparty, including the Atomic Swaps feature that was just released and will activate in a few weeks (see https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-core/releases). Also be sure to check out Horizon Explorer (https://explorer.unspendablelabs.com), which has been improving incrementally since its launch.
-
The Counterparty website will be updated to remove Counterwallet (which is no longer maintained) and show current wallets
-
