If the fees stay this high for longer than a couple weeks, I think the core devs would seriously consider adjusting the taproot witness discount to make encoding ordinals/inscriptions much more costly.

Not a fan of ppl saying how bitcoin should be used.... and think this is just short-term issues with ppl spamming txs... we've been here before... but, if this sustains over a longer time period, I would expect there to be some adjustments made... which would then result in more drama and another fork (BTC-Ord vs BTC), etc

Time will tell if there is "true" demand for ordinals and brc-20.... IMO tx fees right now are high because of brc-20 hype cycle and FOMO... it will fade and tx fees will fall back to "normalish" ranges... and yes, always gonna be ppl who will have the $$$ to pay to get into the next block regardless of the price... but not sure that is what we are seeing here... think it is more due to hype and FOMO

Well... I def see conflict... but end result of that conflict will be 2 chains... one which will be store of value (BTC) and one which will have something else as a priority (data storage or something else).... saw it in the fork wars.... so, yes, ordinals has large community (apparently) and some $$$ to swing around... but doesnt mean they can "take over" bitcoin.... just means they can force a conversation... at some point someone will make tweak/fork of BTC.. and it'll gain SOME traction (cuz who doesn't love free coins, so lots of activity at first)... some will use that initial activity as proof "XXX is the real Bitcoin"... further unnecessary nonsense ensues.... but eventually all value will go to the store of value chain (BTC) and the other chain will fall in value.

Yes... people will always want shiny new things.... and some good experimentation has happened on ETH... Defi was born there, not fading it as a playground.... but, its fundamentals are VERY different than the BTC community..... decentralization is a core principle of BTC ... not necessarily so in ETH.... so, I think that "store of value" and "decentralized" are always going to be BTC's core traits... that wont change, regardless of if some new chain comes along.

AFAIK the value prop of inscriptions is "stored on strongest chain".... strongest chain will always be the one with the most miners... miners will always mine the most profitable chain (which will probably be the store-of-value chain).... if ordinals migrates to their own chain, are they still "stored on the strongest chain"? or are they just another arweave? 😛

It is up to you to choose which miners fee you want to use…. So yeah, still some manual work when issuing a stamp in freewallet…. I plan to implement a new fee slider (similar to counterwallet) in a future release, so should make freewallet even easier to use…. But yeah, miners fee still something you need to figure out on your own (or easiest to just use the stampchain minting service)

Lawsuits in a decentralized system is a bad look…. Like Craig wright tryna prove he is satoshi in courts…. Cp/rare pepe have no rights to enforce (cp logo is Creative Commons)…. Rare pepe ip rights reside with the individual artists (we didn’t make them renounce ip/ownership to submit)…. So technically each rare pepe asset holder / issuer still has the intellectual property (IP) rights…. So if someone WANTED to make a big stink n sue, it’s possible… but, wouldn’t be coming from cp/rarepepe community but rather an individual artist….. better look than CP tryna fight unenforceable IP rights in an irrelevant court system.

You should eventually get auto-notified of the update (hopefully the next time you open your wallet... but sometimes the version request to the server gets cached for a while... and so the prompt to update isn't immediate)

sounds like a fees issue related to busy mempool... the fees for MINTING stamps i freewallet will need to be manually calculated

dont use counterwallet enough... but if you could fake-mint on there and get suggested fee and then just use in freewallet, that would be ideal

freewallet fee is based on average size of single send... 256 bytes... NOT based on actual tx size.... so, the fees in freewallet are drastically underpaid in some instances, like minting stamps, or doing MPMA sends

I plan to solve this issue in a future release by putting a fee slider similar to counterwallet... make it much easier to accurately calculate what the fees should be

100% yes, CP has a clearly defined asset naming system that ensures each name can only be used ONCE, and then yeah, we got all the features.... BRC-20 is something entirely new... there are no token balances that exist in reality on a chain.... balances are maintained offline... and BRC has a new naming system where they allow duplicates... so any you can have 5000 different "RAREPEPE" tokens minted.... very similar to ETH and how they allow ppl to mint any token named anything... and then outsource the "which RAREPEPE token does the user want to get" to the individual wallets and services... to parse through all 5000 RAREPEPE BRC-20 "deploy" contracts and find the one that they think the user wants.... vs on CP, there is only one RAREPEPE

Yes, the current blockchain projects are just for hype concept. I really admire XCP and J-Dog for being able to persevere from 2014 to the present. They are still doing this for nearly 10 years. It is really amazing. I have never seen other people with such perseverance! 🫡
But the hype like BRC-20 and PEPE is also a good thing. The new hot spot has attracted more people to pay attention to the BTC ecology. I just hope that how XCP can seize this opportunity to stand out again and let more people know and use XCP. -

depends on your utxos in your wallet... CP choses the best utxos to use to make up the tx

so if you only have one utxo... it chains... so, can just do another tx with higher fee... but, if you have multiple utxos, its a craps shoot.... MOST times cp just keeps chaining on the pending utxo... but not always

XChain does appear to be lagging a few blocks behind.... due to some issue with duplicate records in the transactions table.... I have an event I have to be at in an hour, so Javier is looking into this issue now

once he figures out the core problem, we will get xchain parsing again.... I have put a warning message up on xchain.io about site being under maintenance until it is caught back up

XChain is parsing again... found an issue in CP... javier is digging into the details and fix... just a duplicate recorrds issue with phantom block and prolly failed rollback after chain split... details will be forthcoming, but we up, all is well, parsing fine.... so, off to my event for the night 🙂

Tread carefully… cp mempool not updating… will put pr/fix in place tomorrow, after which point should be operating normally again n mempool will be kept up to date (updated at least every 60 seconds)

I hit up a dispenser and used mempool to check the address to make sure there were no transactions to it yet.
That’s something I do most of the time even when xchain is updating because there is still a minute or so delay between it updating vs checking mempool -
XChain mempool seems to be functioning well now with the optimizations... we are seeing mempool stay updated, and are seeing transactions show up in the CP mempool a few seconds after they are broadcast 🙂

Will leave this code running for another couple days to see if we discover any strange behavior... but, at this point, seems like the CP mempool update issue is a thing of the past 🙂

I have a problem with the 1 PINK stamp from the stamptoshi collection, stamp: A3612366429244336011 and I don't know how to solve it 😥 I received 2 transactions of 0.01 and the stamp is still in the dispenser... since yesterday the transactions are already confirmed -

The dispenser is still open, it has not sent the stamp in the first or 2 transactions and it does not let me cancel the dispenser either. The problem is that more people will try to buy it since it appears as an open dispenser. I hope someone can help me with this 🙏

all txs in the mempool either get confirmed when the miners process them, get ejected when the utxo in a pending tx is spent, get ejected for having too low of a fee (rare, cept recently), or get expired from the mempool after being unconfirmed for a period of X days (think it is around 15)

I mean, the problem is that the dispenser already sent the stamp but that still has to be confirmed, is it just a matter of time? The problem with this is that the dispenser is still open and other people can buy it, that's why it won't let me close it, now I understand, the asset is already shipped but with a low gas fee, is that so?

nothing prevents you from closing the dispenser

Please, you can verify for yourself that the dispenser is open on xchain : A3612366429244336011and that it has already received the funds 2 times and is still open. -

ok.. yup.. was looking at wrong field... it is a sync issue... dispenser is closed, xchain shows as open... will run re-sync of all dispener statuses to resolve this issue on any other dispeners

just ran my dispener status fix script (had issues with status syncing before, so wrote script to quickly sync)

5 other dispensers had same issue... should be fixed now... will also setup this script to automatically run every 30 minutes or so.... not ideal, but better to show accurate dispener statuses until I can dig into where the sync issue is....prolly related to reorgs

Hey everyone. We decided to open source rarepepeworld.com.
Its back up on a cheap server and the code is on github. it is a rare pepe bitcoin explorer that can be run with a full node, or off xchain api. Can be adapted to support any xcp assets and probably stamps and ordinals as well.
Needs work however and a better server to run off, but we are moving on to other things, in general. Will merge commits etc if they make sense.

it should already be showing in your balances.... dealing with some issues here on xchain and in CP due to a phantom block.... putting out new cp release... and doing necessary prep work to do so (reparse)...

tldr... wait a few hours... will do rollback and reparse of yesterday's data and xchain should be back synced up.... easier than chasing down individual issues like the one your having prolly... not showing token in your balances

Looks like the dispenser dispensed the asset before your 'close' transaction hit... so now asset lives in the person who bought it's address 🙂

but yes, when you close a dispenser, anything left in the dispenser is credited back to the dispenser address

if you mean in freewallet, then yes, should be working, except doesn't work with Trezor hardware wallet yet.... but MPMA sends should be working normally 🙂

ugh... yeah... for some reason broadcast errors aren't bubbling up from bitcoind to xchain... so I can display in freewallet... yet another thing on my todo list... anyway... you can open debug console, copy signed tx, and paste into a https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/pushtx/ ... it could error out and tell you issue.. or it COULD broadcast the transaction... at which point, you've only done the first part of a 2-part mpma send... so it'd prolly waste your fees... I would suggest that you do the following:

Try to do a normal single send from your address... see if you still have the broadcasting issue... if you do, you can do teh copy/paste method above... however, worst case, the send happens... not you just wasted fees on expensive MPMA send

I suspect the broadcasting issue is something about too low of a fee or too many txs pending... but, wanted to make sure I pointed out to NOT try and broadcast the first part of the MPMA tx... cuz it might work.... then only way to finish mpma send is manualy, which will be a pain to reconstruct
