CP has existed and grown its userbase by simply having features that the community uses, and having tons of historical projects on it.... BANKXCP is yet another token some scammers try to use to trick ppl into stealing their funds.
The scam goes like this...
1. Setup website with fake counterwallet login page
2. Create scam token and token supply and set description to point people to fake counterwallet page
3. Send scam token to a bunch of wallets (usually large XCP holders, tho others have been targeted too)
4. Wait for people to follow token link to fake counterwallet login site and login using their 12-word passphrase
5. Steal people's funds from their wallet with their newly stolen 12-word passphrase.
These scammers been at it for years... whenever I detect one of these scammers, I add it to a special blacklist on tokenscan.io where the token info is just not displayed to anyone... As this is the simplest way to protect people from following the link to the fake counterwallet site... if ppl dont see the scammer token and link, they won't be falling for the scam.
Here is a list of some of the tokens that have used this scam over the years to try and trick ppl and steal their 12-word passphrase :

XChain platform is what I am primarily focused on.... I will maintain Counterparty Classic and make updates when necessary or when the community wants changes and comes to consensus... but, my Primary focus is on XChain platform, a completely independent multi-chain platform that will launch in early 2025. I have no plans to return to this channel as J-Dog at this time.. perhaps some day in the future. I made great efforts 9 months ago to remove "Counterparty" drama from my J-Dog telegram channels and sphere of influcence.... so, I have BrrrGuy account for when I decide I want to tune into Counterparty related issues, but I dont want it to be as ingrained in my daily life as it has been for the past 10 years.... I'm still here, still running stuff and here for the community... but, I can't make counterparty as much of my life as I have in the past.... to most ppl, it will prolly look the same, but as I said, my primary focus is on XChain platform and Dankest, LLC.

Now you can interact with counterparty 2.0 ledger by continuing to use FreeWallet or other CP wallets, or use Counterparty Classic by downloading freewallet.io/classic... also will spin up a counterwallet instance for classic in another day or two

For a lot of us that have been around for years (in my case a decade+), the division is truly disheartening. While the old devs have introduced some cool new features, attempted to streamline node-running & so forth, the end goal appears to be attracting some of the Ordinals/BRC20/Runes degens, which lets face it, specialize in the manufacture, sales & marketing of dung. Not entirely dissimilar to Solana.
I gave up hoping XCP would pump a long time ago and just learned to accept it for what it was: a true utility token. -

yup, freewallet still works as it always has, and is on the CP 2.0 version, as I believe that is what most users would expect to interact with, and I have no intention of misleading users or pushing them to use a version of CP that they are not wanting to use... so FreeWallet works on Counterparty 2.0, as does tokenscan.io... the only difference is that a bunch of drama happened in the past couple months, stuff was broken, tempers flared and some ppl rage quit this channel, and refused to re-enable features that many in the community wanted reinstated... and now there are 2 ledgers... Feel free to ignore the drama and just carry on using CP as you always have.. 99% of it still works the same (except dispensers are more expensive and more difficult to manage now)... other than that, just drama and noise you can ignore... or dig into.. up to you 🙂

Yeah, there are definitely interesting proposals that have happened over the years… the truly interesting thing in this case, however is that the idea is proposed and then immediately approved by Adam and slated for being added to the protocol without any real community discussion…. Further emphasizing that the protocol is centralized and it really comes down to the opinion of Adam to determine what is best for counterparty 2.0 without any real community discussion or feedback.
This is one of the reasons why counterparty was slow to progress over the years because the community was consulted and pretty much every change the community needed to see as an improvement and come to consensus on…. we could’ve had AML/KYC compliant token functionality (optional), which would’ve on onboarded a lot of companies and businesses a number of years ago. Had the community been able to come to consensus on adding features such as a list… yet no consensus, so the feature was not added.
Seems like now as long as Adam likes your proposal, it’s immediately approved of and added to the protocol🤷🏻♂️

Since you’re a 2.0 supporter and only tend to speak up in here negatively on classic, perhaps you should bring your suggestion up with the 2.0 team. Changing dispenser prices on an open dispenser opens up more avenues for scamming (changing price while payment is incoming), so prolly not something that will be changed in classic

As with many proposed improvements over the years that I wanted to make, there was not consensus to add them to the protocol, so trusted dispensers were not added to the protocol…. You can verify this if you look at the conversations on this topic on the forums.
Also, oracled dispensers require an oracle to constantly broadcast the price, which costs BTC. There was consensus to add oracled dispensers to counterparty, but not enough usage to sustain an Oracle service. I have solved this problem in xchain platform which I will release early next year. -
Alpha features should not be in production software until they are stable. Atomic swaps, fairmints, etc could all have been developed and tested on testnet and the bugs worked out BEFORE removing dispenser functionality and putting out untested software releases that crash nodes and threaten the stability of the network.
There has been more network downtime in the past year than ever before in the history of Counterparty, and as a result of this, usage is at an all time low.
Still waiting for this mass usage that these new features were supposed to bring…. Seems like the opposite has happened🤷🏻♂️

The classic and 2.0 networks are entirely separate now and txs generated on classic are not seen on 2.0. You can do Mpmas sends on 2.0, however they are much more expensive now since 2.0 disabled P2SH encoding and now requires multisig encoding. Multisig encoding allows much less data per output, resulting in much larger and expensive transactions than p2sh encoding.

Tried to send some btc from freewallet but got a counterparty API error could it be because the address I was sending to is bc1? -
If it’s a counterparty API error, the error is coming directly from counterparty n not a freewallet-specific issue. What is the error message?

This channel has had the same name for many years and it is for all people that use counterparty not a specific version… however there is a channel that is specifically for users that want to discuss only counterparty 2.0. Since the issue the user was referring to was a counterparty 2.0 specific issue and the counterparty 2.0 developers have left this channel and started their own channel where they want people to discuss counterparty 2.0, advising a user who’s having problems with counterparty 2.0 to ask the counterparty 2.0 developers and the channel they specifically created to talk about counterparty 2.0 makes the most sense.
I know you don’t see it but once again this seems like trolling … always being critical of what’s going on in this channel and advice offered to users🤷🏻♂️ -
To be clear, this channel is not just for classic, it is for all users of all versions of counterparty to discuss counterparty, and if I renamed this channel to counterparty classic or something else, it would simply be used to further attack me and further the narrative that this was a hostile channel takeover rather than the counterparty 2.0 devs rage quitting the channel when asked questions they didn’t want to answer.

FreeWallet still defaults to counterparty 2.0, which is why the majority of the activity is still on counterparty 2.0…. Had I wanted to push all the activity to classic, I could’ve easily done so by switching the default in FreeWallet to classic…. However, I do not feel that is the appropriate thing to do as most people I think would expect to be on CP 2.0, and I don’t want to mislead or force ppl to my preferred version.
There is activity on classic however not much is being done to draw attention to classic at this time, hence low activity.
And also CP 2.0 has very little activity as well, certainly not the onslaught of new users that were promised with these new features that were supposed to drive a bunch of adoption.
This is not a classic or CP 2.0 room , this is a room for counterparty users to ask questions about the platform, as it has always been.
The counterparty 2.0 developers chose to rage quit this channel when asked questions they didn’t want to answer and started their own CP 2.0 channel with a couple hundred users in it now.
If you have a question about CP 2.0 I would encourage you to ask your question in their channel rather than here. If you have a question about functionality in counterparty, you can probably ask it here and get it answered as 98% of the functionality is the same between both CP 2.0 and classic.
Though I suspect based off of your comments that you’re not really here to ask questions and rather here to troll a bit 🤷🏻♂️ -

If you are aware of the history here over the past couple months, you would know that Joe is a CP 2.0 supporter who specifically only speaks up to try to troll people in this channel and talk negatively about classic. Hence the responses to him that he is trolling, etc..
If his question was a genuine question, then yes, that would probably be less than ideal response, however, as we have dealt with months of trolling and nonsense from the CP 2.0 camp, the response seems appropriate, considering the source.

correct... what you do on classic is not seen on 2.0 and vice versa except when buying from dispensers... best to use the one you prefer, or both if you prefer.

you can setup dispensers on the same address on cp 2.0 and classic and if ppl buy from the dispenser using CP 2.0, then the dispenser on classic will dispense a token as well.... tho I would suggest just using separate wallets/addresses for each, just to keep things segmented/separate

if you want to trigger a dispenser using just a normal BTC send... that only works on classic.. if you want to use CP 2.0, you gotta use a CP 2.0 compatible wallet (freewallet or horizon)... no more onboarding normies via dispensers in 2.0... they have to seek out and download a CP 2.0 wallet before being able to buy from a CP 2.0 dispenser.

If you want to use FW Classic you have to download the Freewallet classic version... It is marked on the website.... As for the most recent version of Freewallet, which is V 2.0.1, that version runs xcp 2.0 .... If you haven't already you should absolutely upgrade to the most recent version (v 2.0.1)

It’s been goofy I tried it submit it a directory so all the the things lock token change JSON and send card burn cards !
Cost me like $8 and as I waited for the transactions to go threw I did the same with 3 Dogeparty cards and had everything done $1.5 then bought some
Other assets checked back and ended up closing my computer without the xcp stuff going threw yet lol 😂

true... however if we look at the history of how forks work.... CP 2.0 released new software (forked from the old software).. and CP 2.0 forked the ledger (new functionality which caused the ledgers to diverge).... so, ppl can finger point and call whatever they want the fork, but if you look at the facts, historically, the new verison of software and/or ledger are called the fork... and in this case, CP 2.0 is the new version in both cases 🤷️️️️️️

kinda wish that Adam and team would have just been transparent with VC funding and come forward and mentioned that a for-profit VC backed company is now in charge of development of a decentralized protocol.... would have put everything to bed... instead, choose to not disclose that for many months, then when I asked questions about it, tried to silence/censor me by booting me from the channel, then when that didn't work, rage-quit teh channel and started their own channel..... STILL could have come back at any time (he has never been banned or kicked from here)... and had over a month to add back the functionality that users were upset was lost (origin dispenser functionality).... ppl can think what they want, but the history speaks for itself.... plenty of opportunities to mend the divide and over a month to bring the ledger and communities back together... but they choose a different path, which is fine, but the constant trolling and personal attacks and creating entire rooms to just circle-jerk-hate-talk on myself and classic is pretty ridiculous

Yup…. No functionality change to make them safer in 2.0 (the dangers are way overstated by that camp)…. All they did was make it cost 3txs to open a dispenser on a new address instead of 1tx…. And same in reverse to close… to setup new dispenser on empty/new address and then close n return assets to origin address is now 6txs instead of 2
And dispensers still “ruggable”… seller can wait for incoming payment then rush full payment to dispenser to front-run n buy from dispenser before other tx is confirmed…
Used to be able to just close dispenser with incoming dispense…. I added 5-block close delay logic last year to make it tougher for scammers to scam…. Now the only way to “rug” is how I mentioned, and it requires the scammer to buy out the dispenser instead of just closing it…. That is the last improvement made to dispensers (by me, last year)… all changes this year have lost functionality n made them more difficult h expensive to use…. All using the false claim of “security bug where someone could close other ppls dispensers”…. Something never possible (could only open new dispenser on empty address) -
I have to admit, the 'critical vulnerability' is more of a spam category at worse, as per the reading of their FAQ.
seems like a feature to me more than a bug. The real vulnerability is the RBF attack that you described. That would be something worth upgrading a protocol for.
But I guess we'll see what progress they make. -

dispensers will go away when atomic swaps take over however there has been major bugs with atomic swaps and people losing their assets in utxo's so by all means let us know how that works out for you. the forked protocol is down every other day, devs rushing out new stuff causing people to lose assets etc.

Yeah... preventing people from being able to immediately close the dispenser, and making it so scammers have to wait 50 minutes before a dispenser closes, and making it so that they have to buy the dispenser out (use the same amount of BTC as the person buying from the dispenser) totally doesnt add any more protections (sarcasm)... and you wonder why ppl here say your trolling... You may disagree with dispensers, but saying that improvements the community requested, which solved a problem, and made it more difficult and expensive for scammers to try and "rug" dispenser as "useless" is trolling.

the proper way to fix them would have been to leave dispensers alone and focus on atomic swaps... building a viable replacement BEFORE breaking what was working and making them more expensive and harder to use (6 txs to open and close instead of 2).... but, the core devs (who recently returned to the community after 10+ years, and who have very little understanding or connection to the community here for the past 10 years) feel that they can force their viewpoints and changes into CP.... as I said many times, I'm all for improvements, but you don't break stuff before alternatives are there to replace them.... And I gave them over a month to rectify the situation... I didn't cause the fork, but best believe that i'm perfectly happy to keep a "community driven" version of CP running.... throwing all the CIPs and hard work done over the 10 years while they were gone, and talking shit on dispensers, something that John Villar and I came up with to solve a problem with using BTC on the dex, simply because they dont think the model is perfect, is ridiculous.

Counterwallet is finally back up and working... Javier and I proposed 3 different fixes over a year ago to get counterblock parsing again, exactly 1 week after it was broken.... those 3 proposals were ignored and shit-canned by Adam and team... and counterwallet was deprecated (IMO to force ppl to their new wallet Horizon)..... Anyway, counterparty classic has counterwallet working again, and will be doing announcement soon 🙂

it was the first counterparty wallet (written by co-founder Robby), and works on mobile... and supported a betting interface... which was awesome, tho saw little usage since no more oracles to bet on.... i'd give it a try when it comes back up 🙂
