I thought that counterparty act as escrow to protect users
-
-
It does in the DEX
-
-
-
dispensers are pure bitcoin sends, so you tell me how counterparty would act as escrow without doing custody of bitcoin
-
you need some bitcorn bro
-
If the dispenser is low on supply and one doesn't put enough tx fees, yeah you won't have the best of lucks.
-
I'm good bro, but if you wanna refund my 0.02 feel free lol my addy is in my description
-
But then if you put higher fees someone else is out of luck LOLOL what a clown show

Your concerns are valid

BTC/FLOCK there is one sell order

That attitude won't get you solve anything, Mr Coins.
I think you are right in pointing out those issues, but the context of the situation is very different, imo.
If you already knew the risks and was concerned about their possible impact on new users there are better ways to get your ideas heard. -

XCP-20 isn't a new tech but a different approach to current trends in fungible tokens on BTC
The fact the asset is an old one is part of its value, at least for people who appreciate it. -

FLOCK was created as a response to Swarm. It has nothing to do with whay you think.
It was fully minted then but not for sale. -
Think of it as a relic with historical value.
Not as a cutting edge tech.
If anything it is a joke at others that claim theirs are. -
I have four open dispensing 50 flock at a time, but will create some on market for you if you prefer
-
-
-
-
-
You've been with XCP since Jan 2014?
-
-
FLOCK is like Fine Art for nerds, not really a financial instrument to extract value from, imho.
-
The XCP burn ended in Jan 2014. There's no way anybody involved with it would not know the risks associated with dispensers. Frankly I find it hard to believe they would be buying FLOCK, TBH.
What you need to do is contact the dispenser owners and ask for a refund. Yelling at J-Dog will get you nowhere. -
Buddy I have better things to do with my life than read this chat all day, I have used dispensers in the past assuming they worked and they always have. Why is it hard to believe "they" would be buying FLOCK? I'm complainging because it's such a moronic situation that I didn't think something so obvious would pass
-
-
-
How to contact them ?
-
-
-
-
A hominems aren't just criticism.
-
-
Its not always possible but sometimes you can figure out who owns what address by following where their FLOCK came from, what tokens they have in their address. Sometimes just doing a search for related addresses in this group works.
-
Who is the creator of Counterparty?

I also front run twice
Please share the address of the dispenser and I will also share to know whether it was a planned scam -

I've seen others complain about this as well on other chats.
It is a legitimate concern. -
-
-
Obviously!!!! It's so ridiculous and obvious it shouldn't even be a concern
-
-
And checked a couple of tx myself.
It happens in the same block, sometimes with identical timestamps, only with higher fees -
Also trying to quiz me on something that i can google isn't very telling

The identical timestamp is what strucks me the most.

Hello! There are any RUGSPENSERS group?🥰

can we connect freewallet with hardware dev?

I would like to connect my Trezor to a fresh Freewallet. When I start Freewallet, I choose 'Login to existing wallet' and I am asked to type 12 words, but I don't see any option to connect the Trezor. Do I have to create a dummy wallet with whatever seed in Freewallet and connect my Trezor later?

how do i do that?

You're welcome, I'm just trying to make sure we all have fun.
-
Send me your seed phrase and I'm happy to look into it for you, you are welcome 😇

do not send it
-
Easiest solution is to use the DEX and buy/sell for XCP. I saw you say you paid max fee but I'm betting you just set the send to 'high' which is not max fee.

The dispenser should payout to the first visible tx not the first confirmed, they can be labeled as they become visible. Then when closing a dispenser the "close" action should take 3-4 confirmations to close the dispenser to give time to any pending transactions to confrim first. These two actions would prevent front running and closing out dispensers
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Seems like all these problems could be solved by asking buyers to use fees high enough to ensure inclusion in next block.
-
Higher fee wins even if on same block, or earliest send time?
-
The problem is that even if you pay a really high fee, if the asset is expensive, an immoral owner can see your fee rate and still beat it to close the dispenser. If the asset is 0.05 or more, the rogue seller still comes out way ahead by pocketing your payment and closing the dispenser before you get your dispense
-
Ouch
-
For now niftyboss’ validated seller list is probably best solution 💪
-
Yes this. People are gonna get turned off. Best solution is dispenser closure requires X number of confirmations (maybe 5-10) and xchain pops up a message (warning - this dispenser will be closed on block XXX,XXX). This needs to be done ASAP. Confidence is a delicate thing.
-
For sure no one will bother for cheap assets 0.001 etc. but for 0.1+, some bad actors will find it worth the risk of 1 lost fee. And most dispensers are anon so there’s no rep to lose
-
No I mean a bad actor closing it as soon as he sees a pending purchase. That costs only a fee and he can take your 0.1 without dispensing
-
True. But seems like a modernization of the dispenser process is warranted until confirmations are faster, or unless a TX will fail if someone else grabbed the asset (like on ETH - if someone confirms first, your TX will fail and you only lose your gas)
-
-
-
That’s a good point as well. They don’t even have to close. They can make it look like a legit purchase from a random address
-
-
Yes this is what happened to me 2 times on FLOCK, it looks like a bot because both tx were sent within seconds of my purchase with +10sat/vB as the fee
-
Agree. Dispensers are unique. I have always liked them for Pepe’s etc. but with increased volume comes attention from attackers. Dispensers are too easy to attack. Doesn’t even require any programming skill. Just watching the address and using a higher fee. Way too easy for bad actors
-
-
-
Definitely true. But we want 1/1s to be desirable. They are more expensive so it would be great if the dispenser mechanism could be updated to eliminate any chances of intentional front running
-
No because if you buy one, I'll send a tx to buy all 10 with a higher fee and RUG YOU
-
-
Good point. A bad actor dispenser owner can still win easily. Exchanges are coming, so this might become a moot point. I’ll never buy off a dispenser again if I can buy from an exchange that is trusted
-
-
Gotta run, but I really hope CP devs will take this to heart and program a way to eliminate any front running capabilities. Too dangerous now that there is more volume, money and opportunity in the CP system thanks to stamps blowing up
-
Stamps etc. if they can list stamps, can prob list all CP assets
-
-
RUGSPENSERS?
-
dividends plus dispensers is something to consider.
-
You like Pepsi over Coca-Cola? Is that what you're saying?
-
-
-
When coke was an ingredient?
-
The good old days.
-
meaning, dispenser is only used as indication of interest.
you get back a token as a receipt and are added to allowlist.
a script will scan all transactions and use an alg to filter out frontrunner bots.
the remaining will be on allowlist and a dividends transaction is triggered to send the actual tokens you want to you. -
the point is, the solution is to have another step that inteligently weeds out bots/
-
If you don't like or understand how to use a dispenser, just make DEX trades
-
"a script...frontrunner botst ."
This is like that picture of the owl that's like, circle, circle, OWL. -
really simple solution
-
all the convo is too much, just make an <asset>/XCP trade and be done with it, no messy business
-
-
Dispensers were basically released because <asset>/BTC DEX trades were a pain in the ass to get through, and dispensers give people access with BTC, if you want to be extra secure, make a DEX trade for another asset, simple as
-
We need UX around getting XCP
-
Very true, sadly it takes dispensers because of lack of exchange options
-
This makes the trusted dispenser list valued
-
-
I might be simple minded but I don't understand the statements from Mr Coins about how to fix it which are basically telling counterparty not to take tx's the way bitcoin makes them, and that sounds counterintuitive

Yeah me too.
-
isnt that changing how bitcoin works though, the highest fee tx gets in the block, not the first, so you could bork things where a counterparty send goes through but it could take many blocks or fail on the bitcoin side
-
Sounds like someone could exploit that and get it in the 'first tx' and then RBF the send elsewhere and 'steal' the asset from the dispenser, or am I wrong?

What is a safe amount of recipients for a multisend? Can I do 65-70?

-
what if i put a buy in at 1 satoshi?

You get the asset then the send gets dropped
-
dispensers will never be broadly useful unless some of these ideas are considered. how bitcoin works is not a reason because CP does things that bitcoin doesn’t understand anyway. dispensers thus far have been used by a small mostly trusted community. this is not scalable of you actually want a largw user base.
-
seriously laughable to hear about how to handle real problem as convoluted while everyone on CP rn is doing convoluted shit
-
I’ve never actually used Bitcoin on the DEX as it seems like a hassle but is it also susceptible to front-running? Order matches: Bitcoin is sent but before it’s confirmed the other party cancels the order. Possible?
-
BTC on the dex is safe... but complicated
-
2 parties place an order... the buying party (one paying with BTC) has to keep a wallet open listening for order matches... when an order match occurs on the DEX, the DEX reserves the items in the order_match for 20 blocks.... the BUYER has 20 blocks to notice the order match and then send a BTC payment (btcpay... special payment type, not just a normal BTC send)... and if the BTC arrives before the order match expires, then they get the tokens escrowed in the order match
-
but... 99% of the time... ppl place orders to buy n close the wallet... so order matches happen, BTC never gets sent, so the order matches expire... this is why you see so many expired orders when using BTC
-
the ONLY way to use BTC on the dex right now is via freewallet auto-BTCpay feature I wrote.... Dispensers were written by John and myself specifically to solve the "BTC is tough to use on the DEX" issue.... we wanted a way to send a single BTC payment and have it trigger a token going back in a single tx... hence dispensers were born 🙂
-
Dispensers might not be perfect, but less janky than BTC on DEX for sure 🙂
-
Well the buy needs to be for the asking price... and then if it's pending for too long the dispenser can be closed
-
so with decent fees orders are matched in two blocks?
-
Glad you have it all figured out... how about you put it in code.. Pull Requests.
-
(for the buyer)
-
in perfect scenario... 2 blocks... buyer/seller place buy/sell in same block..... orders execute and order match is created in same block... then BTC payment can be sent in next block... but usually more spread out than that... 3 blocks... seller order (block #1)... buyer order (block #2)... ordermatch... then BTC payment (block#3)
-
nice
-
should be able to do up to 1000... tho the tx fees on it go up as the size of the send goes up.... getting better fee estimation is high on the priority list
-
Probably been thought of before but why not a synthetic bitcoin xcp asset pegged to bitcoin? You’d have to trust the party behind the synthetic asset not to run off with the bitcoin but it would solve the issues with dispensers/dex.
-
-
Oh totally… but people seem to “trust” stables already… surprised no one has tried this yet
-
-
-
The trusted issuer could sell in a dispenser and add on a percent or two. So you send 1 BTC and get back 0.98 sBTC
-
When you want to redeem you open a dispenser of your own. Others may buy from it, but would be up to the issuer to maintain the peg by buying from dispensers if necessary
-
Although we might be reintroducing the original problem this way lol
-
Yeah that won’t work. Redemptions would need to be OTC with the trusted party
-
-
-
It was done before… but the company that operates it would be considered a money exchanger n must comply by U.S. laws, etc….. there was a company that did it with xbtc…. But once they learned of the legal headaches they stopped
-
-
So here is my experience using multisend with the Multisig Dust size set to: 0.00000960
Many failures. It would often do the first broadcast and then fail the second broadcast. I was trying to do about 65 addresses.
I ended up just chunking the number of addresses down to sets of 10 or so. I should have tried raising the Multisig Dust Limit but I completely forgot that I had lowered it from 7800.
Anyways, I don't know for certain that this is the culprit, but whenever I've used Multisend previously it rarely failed. -
Multisend doesn’t use multisig…. It uses p2sh So the outputs are 546 unless you change in freewallet
-
No I left that alone… the only way I was able to successfully do it was 10 addresses at a time
-
Maybe my UTXOs were too small and needed consolidation idk

Hello :)
We have a technical issue with the counterparty containers.
Our provider, where we deployed counterparty containers, made an unexpected restart of our server and after restart in didn't run properly.
Now we have a problem with addrindexrs.
We decide to rebuild all containers, because previously counterparty container couldn't connect to addrindexrs container.
We have an error on building addindexs (on screenshot)

huys I have a problem
-
from my one account (free wallet) I listed 5 stamps. I sold one but it loooks like it gives all of the five stamps
-
why this happened?
-
You attached multiple assets to a single dispenser.
-
yes
-
I lost 0.1 btc worth stamps 🙁
-
I am crying now
-
Wallet warns you not to do that
-
-
but it was different anount
-
-
it just sent the highest amount all
-
-
I lost all my savings over a single mistake
-
Maybe read n understand stuff before just clicking ok…. Warnings are there for a reason… I do my best to warn ppl but if you don’t read them, no one to blame but yourself
-
yes
-
Sorry man😢
-
-
Expensive lesson, but bet you won’t make that mistake again
-
gosh, it hurt so much
-
You been RUGSPENSED

@gonderh Do you know who the buyer is?
-
yes

if you are here, you bought one of my stamp 0.049 but because I wrongly opened all in one dispenser, I sent you 6 more stamps. it was my all savings. Please, if you are a good people, contact me. dont let this one mistake destroy my life.

this address has not made a tx in over a week though

I sent the wrong one
-
No only dev can do that
-
-
bc1qjvfnf67uwyp25n2fvhnw4gapdx7z66lfkpyplg. this one boss. sorry.. I am still in shock
-
Costly lesson, making multiple dispensers on one address is a big mistake on your part, not theirs
-
Maybe you can create some new stamps?
-
RUGSPENSERS the first token on a trusted dispenser, RUG20

zero hits in any group, doesn't look good for you unless they sight your requests and are happy to respond and return of their own volition
-
I am just hoping maybe that person is good and can return me. it was all my savings. this is a tough lesson. I hope that person is good.
-
Just keep in mind that you did make all those dispensers in one address AFTER the wallet even told you not to
-
-
I think all of us have likely made and learned this very mistake/lesson
-
you never forget your first massive self-rug
-
RUGSPENSERS was develodep for that
-
you bet
-
I lost all my savings in this mistake.
-
🙁
-
-
Truth^
-
yes, a few people have done this deliberately, like the Sock Master
-
I dont think buyer knew it at all.. what I was selling was a good deal
-
I have a dispenser that is selling multiple assets for one price but I did it because of the benefit of the feature, we understand you made a mistake, but is about how you move forward after that
-
Send him a "contact me" card with your telegram handle
-
And, they might have seen the dispenser for the one asset and bought it
-
and they received a bonus gift from the creator in their viewpoint
-
how can I do that?
-
make an asset
-
put contact info in description and hope they see it
-
how?
-
if they look at their holdings
-
then they would see it, and may respond
-
Or they might just destroy the token, but you at least tried
-
thank you my friend!
-
FYI... I have decided to update BTNS-420 to recognize and respect the CP asset registration system. The BTNS is a new project to experiment with some new token functionality on Counterparty via broadcasts. I don't expect it to turn into anything... but, I DO plan to build it out and support BTNS tokens on XChain, freewallet, etc.
On the off-chance that it DOES turn into something useful, I feel it is important to respect it's roots, the community, and the asset names reserved on the Counterparty system.
What does this mean?
1. All existing Counterparty NAMED assets are automatically reserved for registration in the BTNS by the CP asset owner address
2. Users who use XCP to register a NAMED assets on CP, also automatically get the BTNS name reserved for them (if not already registered).
3. Encourages users to use Counterparty and XCP to create named assets
4. Treats BTNS as a "bolt-on" enhancement to CP (a sidechain of sorts) for playing around with CP Asset and BTNS functionality
Yesterday you owned CP BACON asset... Today you own CP BACON asset and exclusive rights to issue the BACON token on the BTNS.
I will be working on finishing off the first version of the BTNS indexer with support for ISSUE/MINT/SEND early next week. -
Also worth mentioning :
- BTNS-420 allows for 1-250 character asset names (yes, you can register 1-3 characters, and 12-250 characters...something you can't do with CP assets currently)
- BTNS-420 will support dispensers that trigger with BTC payments AND trigger with payments of other tokens (Buy one token with another token)
- BTNS-420 has some experimental and new features LIST, AIRDROP, PAUSE, RUG, CALLBACK which will allow for much more experimentation and fun 🙂 -
Once the indexer is done, i'll create a telegram channel for BTNS and break off all discussions for it there... so this place can remain CP / asset focused.... and all BTNS / token talk can go elsewhere 🙂

BTN Image (BTNI) introduces a novel approach to image verification, leveraging the power of the Bitcoin Trust Network and Counterparty tokens to establish an immutable connection between images and tokens. The process begins by encoding the image data into a base64 or equivalent format. This encoded representation is then entered into the Bitcoin Trust Network search box, which displays a predetermined unique burn address specifically for that image. To establish a permanent link between the image and a token, the creator of the token utilizes Counterparty. The token ownership is transferred to the burn address generated for the respective image. This transfer effectively binds the image and token together, forging an unbreakable connection on the Bitcoin blockchain. By employing Counterparty tokens, which operate as assets built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, BTN Image ensures the everlasting association between the image and the token. The immutability and decentralized nature of the Bitcoin blockchain guarantee…

I once found a vending machine that I could put my money into, and it would give me the pepsi, plus the money would fall out of the bottom of the machine... used to arrive at school with half a dozen cans
haven't found any XCP dispensers that do this though 😮💨 -
The most similar thing is an accidental multiple dispenser 😁

Good. Thanks for liquidity providing XCP. In my understanding we need fucking XCP for amending issured XCP20 token info.
-
XCP is used for minting tokens, and other functions on Counterparty
-
Jdog described it earlier saying " XCP is an anti-spam mechanism put on certain functions which write a bunch of data to the database... so, it serves a purpose.... I spose we could tweak CP in the future to have the anti-spam fee be calculated in BTC.... and/or have the system automatically purchase the required amount of XCP from a dispenser..... so, users would be able to issue a named asset using JUST btc... but honestly, I dont really see XCP as that much of a hurdle.. with dispensers, there is no real need to have a centralized exchange to get XCP.... and having to get some XCP from a dispenser kinda educates and familiarizes noobs with CP basics and how dispensers work, which is good, because they will most likely be setting one up relatively quickly."

Recently several members of our community have suffered losses with Dispensers.
Either from bad actors, or from an inadequate understanding of how dispensers operate.
The Dispensary has been set up as a community self-help group specifically around all things Dispenser related.
Historically, a lot of dispenser issues, where funds were sent by two buyers for example, have been successfully resolved through community discussion, detection and dispenser owners reimbursing people who missed out on assets, or sent wrong amounts, etc.
I'm very sympathetic to problems of funds lost from a front-run closed out dispenser.
Wherever there is a bad actor in the community, tracking down the culprit is important if it's possible to achieve it.
To date there has not been one specific forum where people can discuss Dispensers, share dispensers, discuss and confirm information about dispensers.
So I have created The Dispensary.
I will share this new group any time I see discussions of dispensers, or dispenser problems, as these threads can consume a lot of collective bandwidth for people not directly involved in problem resolution.
Everyone is welcome to join.
People will be able to post their created Dispensers in The Dispensary, that you are prepared to stand by and resolve any fulfilment problems with.
We can look at building some social identifiers against known good reused Dispenser addresses as well.
Share this link any time you see someone having problems with Dispensers

I figure let's consolidate dispenser discussions into one spot, as a lot of the time, there are simple questions that can be handled quickly, and other times a long and detailed investigation is warranted, which consumes a huge amount of people's collective bandwidth here, that's not efficient at all.
Happy to add other Admins, whoever wants to help, let me know. This is for the community, as I've seen dispenser issues discussed across so many groups, where the discussions are often off-topic to the groups and take focus off group purpose matters. -
