I'm to git blame for activating destroys on mainnet, the history is messy because of the way it was merged.

-
interesting - discussion by looney 2017 on it too
-
-
Yes, I'm only to git blame. I didn't start the fire, it was always burning.
-
-
"My guess would be that destroy is a risky proposition in that you could accidentally your whole asset, so I'm not totally surprised by it not being enabled. But it's awesome that it exists. People want this!
'Burning' is a fairly widely understood concept among Counterparty users. Often, we see them using any burn address they can cook up. SoG has done this. FoW has done this. Pepe cards have done this.
But the burn is not reflected by websites/applications that display total 'supply/issuance' or 'market cap', unless they create manual checks or exceptions." -
-
Why are you able to do this with cip33 and not with inscriptions?
Would inscriptions be significantly more money or not even possible? -
inscriptions would not be on bitcoin. or minimum the existence would be arguable.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
probably you will not be able to play it today. we need wider adoption and better tools/wallets/decoders.
-
-
What about the argument someone must maintain a copy of all transactions and not every node can prune all inscriptions
I think I’m phrasing that correctly… -
what is "trasnactions" ?
-
ah so a music specific audio decoder with the raw data? ... similar to base64 but just a different decoder?
-
I’ve heard the argument that every node cannot prune all inscriptions
-
-
-
-
-
There's many ways to insert data into the blockchain.
What inscriptions benefitted from is with just 1 method for doing so you can insert many different types of data. That's a neat trick, if you can do it.
Other buffs includes the witness discount, the halo of newness, and good timing.
But with this "one simple trick" you get something people can coordinate on and a distribution network for that data which became a flywheel.
The longevity is intriguing and speaks to value for investors, but I think what really makes it work is the distribution and that speaks to creators.
Having n+1 ways to store data isn't going to do the trick. Increasing the distribution network for the data is what works.
And it's easier to get that working if you have 1 standard that's easily adopted. -
-
-
1 standard that is adopted by everyone and especially the one that is arguably to exist is very unsafe IMO
-
-
-
-
-
We could discuss the tech-y things, but the distribution that you get from ordinals is something enviable and worth striving to emulate.
-
best UI+UX
-
-
I can explain to you the algorithm for ordinals, the implementation of it is details.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
what kind of audio coding and decoding are you using to fit it in the raw data?
-
I can share my view on it...
Ordinals and Inscriptions are two components. The solid one is Ordinals.
It's a simple algorithm that's tightly coupled with Bitcoin-Bitcoin.
Has a lot of advantages over what we do with Counterparty, you get PSBT, easier to maintain consensus. The algo is the algo.
Then there are inscriptions. Which were a growth marketing tactic for the protocol. And the next growth marketing tactic is runes. But ordinals is really solid/simple.
Where inscriptions are straight forward, IMO, is that without all the software, if I just were to have the output, I can get the data. I don't need any indexing or validation. -
Growth marketing tactics for Counterparty, which I have advocated in the past and would still support include three letter asset names and making asset ownership tradeable.
-
i am using JPJA html that does all the job for me.
-
-
Degen marketing tactics for Counterparty, is to 10x or 100x all balances. So supply becomes 26m or 260m.
-
interesting
-
thanks for sharing Dan
-
have you seen my videos?
-
Yes I like this
-
-
i have not
-
here
-
At some blockheight, you multiply XCP balances by 10 or 100.
-
-
It would be like a stock split, I think.
-
sounds like xcp printer go brr
-
-
-
Adam mentioned this earlier saying he wish they made the supply higher
-
-
What I like to do is look for high leverage changes to software. Where the effort or input is low and the upside or output is high. And for me, that's stuff like three letter assets, assets that start with 'A', multiplying XCP balances.
-
-
I think that's a cool change, but high effort.
-
XCP balances would only be allocated to the holders at the time of the snapshot (holder of 1 XCP would then hold 100 XCP), so from the holders' perspective there is no loss/gain of value (still holding same % of existing XCP).
-
theres always the case of xcp held on bigger exchanges - poloniex/bittrex
-
Ordinals is basically rebuilding Counterparty, people are excited about registering 13 character names in April.
-
-
No one knows what that is
-
-
-
distribution sirs
-
distribution
-
How would 3 letter assets make any difference
-
-
People really want to register asset names on Bitcoin, due to Runes. They can't access three letter asset names until 4 years from now. Counterparty inserts itself into that narrative in a well-timed manner.
-
-
Because Casey built a time release so every 3-4 months shorter names can be registered.
-
basically its base64 yes, every note has its weight
-
It's a squirrel-y idea.
-
-
yeah realized it was midi and made more sense too

-
-
-
-
I would buy ownership of an old, if I could buy them on a dispenser or for XCP. Not even necessarily because it is old, but for the asset name, like how I might want a domain name.
-
i think a DEx or system for token ownership sales would be a huge plus
-
nope. this one:
-

True..as long as you offer good price 😁
-
theres a couple collections that include old relics with new art attached
-
-
Yes this is very obvious
-
They can be issued 100X their holdings as well, although those will probably never move either way.
-
its been discussed a few times - but I think most token holders or issuers know the value in owning token ownership - especially around the discussion of lock token issuance, lock token description, using subassets as an extra layer of functionality - as well as ownership of the name space on BTNS (again, i find it incredibly interesting)

Bittrex shutdown (December 2023)
-
Does anyone here still have XCP locked up at Bittrex?
-
Those are epic —- probably going to be super rare one day.
-
Can anyone explain what happened to Bittrex and the XCP locked up there?
-
If I remember correctly, they gave final notice and said you will lose your XCP if you don’t withdraw
-
-
-
Yeah, they halted trading of XCP in 2019 or 2020. Since then, they were sued by the SEC and their US branch declared bankruptcy
-
So there are creditors that might make a claim on those
-
That’s also a possibility

Bittrex, Inc. | Free Bankruptcy Petition- Chapter 11 Filing District of Delaware
On May 08, 2023 Bittrex, Inc. filed for chapter 11 protection in the District of Delaware (Case No. 23-10598).
-
Here are some details - fincen is 9th on the creditor list at $3.5m
-
I'm guessing that's a fine that they just made up - SEC is undetermined
-
But their case hinged on them being an unlicensed securities exchange, and they have lost all of their suits regarding that
-
didn't they have like a hundred billion dollar claim agst FTX lol
-
USDOT is #1 on the list at $24m
-
There were 2 customers that held over $10m on the exchange
-
-
17 total over $1m
-
They list that they hold $500m-$1B in assets and owe that much too
-
This was filed May of 2023 when BTC was $28k, so they'll probably just pay customers out in USD and the lawyers and gov agencies will rake in all the profit

Stamps is on counterparty and we've had fruitful discussions with the founders about potentially bringing src-20 back onto counterparty as well. That being said, the price of xcp is completely irrelevant to any such discussions. It's not a motivating factor whatsoever. We will decide what is best for Stamps and the Stamps ecosystem.

If it’s just switching a max block height in the code and it wasn’t done for any technical reasons, I think dex users would prefer a much longer expiration date.
It would also help with liquidity on the dex.
That’s what’s great about dispensers, set it and forget it -
interesting i just got this email from a brokerage (and i feel like this timing uniform across platforms) "Good Till Close" actually means will be cancelled in 60 days in the boomer casino, so maybe that's where the length came from..
-
a chinese cesspool? ya real great contribution kek
-
It’s nice to have things expire so that the protocol doesn’t become encumbered by a lot of escrowed balances with no definite closing time. Like how you don’t want to write code with infinite loops, usually.
It probably wouldn’t matter if they could be open forever, but I think it gives some flexibility to and is helpful for if the protocol wants to juke left or right to not have such open ended contracts. -
Bump it up though why not
-
Good idea imo
-
Like say in the future you want to rework dispensers considerably.
Do you close all open dispensers or you try to leave them alone? They are sort of anchored to a version. But I like that we have them. -
Do you close them? That would probably be best.
-
Mikes stealing their Bitcoin. 😆
-
-
-
If it adds a potential protocol burden, perhaps a higher xcp fee should be added for extended durations to deal with the externality cost
-
that was discussed
-
-
Increase max order expiration
A number of users in the community have expressed frustrations with the current max order expiration of 8064 blocks (2 months). The purpose of this post is to discuss interest in increasing the max order expiration and if so, what should the max allowed be? 1.) Could increasing the max_expiration have any negative effects on the CP system (more orders to check for matches each block, etc)? 2.) What should the max_expiration be increased to? (48,384 blocks = 1 year) Thoughts?
-
-
how come there's big price discrepancy on XCP value in freewallet and what it's showing elsewhere?
-
pretty much every price you see for XCP right now is not going to be very meaningful. it's very illiquid, since it's not supported by any major centralized exchange
it's an important goal for the next few months is to get it widely listed. first just need to get it to be faster, more stable, easier to install, etc. -
how would you go about getting it listed?im assuming on other exchanges
-
-
im just wondering how they set the price and how that works when most the coins are held already?
-
?
-
who's "they"?
-
you create an order book...
-
the exchange
-
not sure I understand. it's not like a public offering or anything. people will just put in bids and asks as they do normally...
-
If a market maker were to list that'd be a different story, can't say how they do price discovery there.
-
would definetely get alot more attraction nontheless
-
It needs to be an exchange with:
*Name recognition (well-known/respected)
*High liquidity
*Relatively loose KYC requirements
Kucoin seems like a good option, although there are probably people here who have better ideas. -

-
-
There actually was a stablecoin-like asset on Counterparty even before Tether existed, I believe. There was not a plan to have it be 'native' in the sense that XCP is.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm generally in favor of cleanly separating between specific use-cases and the protocol, and to that extent I wouldn't want a stablecoin integrated into the platform. On the contrary, I hope that over time Counterparty's functionality is generalized; that it becomes programmable so that, among other things, we do not need to hard fork every time we want to extend its feature-set. Programmability will necessitate the introduction of a gas system, for which XCP will be especially well-suited given how it was created, how long it's been around, and so on. With XCP more tightly integrated into the platform, it will be able to function like a unit of account in the same way that Ether is in the Ethereum network. -
With a stable usd coin, people could trade Bitcoin without leaving the BTC network for a CEX
-
-
These are just vague ideas now, obviously. Still dealing with the P0s to get the platform back in shape. I was in the special grammar class in 3rd grade
-
I think the programmability of assets would allow this
-
I’m also a highly regarded language person
-
-
People would have to alter their dispensers to make sales, but it wouldn’t cause anyone to sell for too cheap. So there’s no concern there.
-
The perceived liquidity would likely increase with 250M supply rather than 2.5M
-
A quick scan of top 100 coins, and I think BTC or Monero have the lowest supplies 18 million
-
Do you multiple the burn rate also or leave it?
-
I agree, I hope we increase circulating xcp in a stock split fashion. It would be the right decision imo
For me the timing of such an implementation is also important
Introduce it when gas is implemented and the general availability of the token gets easier viz aviz with exchange availability. -
There would not be a new burn. Just adding zeroes to everyone’s balance. The historical burn rate value would still be the same.
-
I mean issuing an asset, etc…
-
Ah yeah, good question
-
In the ideal world burning xcp would be a dynamic and not a hard-coded value
-
I’ve seen people kicking around the idea of making it a dynamic fee structure rather than an arbitrary amount.
-
I’m still a fan of burning XCP, since it all ties back to the initial proof of burn
-
-
-
Was it? When you look at the oldest assets like TEST or LEET, the fee displays 0.00000000 XCP
-
At some point, it was a paltry 0.00000005 XCP
-
I was always curious about that
-

Eerily similar situation for XCP (only at a slightly smaller scale 😄)

Several years ago we had a CounterParty Foundation with community members. I have followed cp sporadically over the years so don't know the full history of why it is no longer around but it served quite a few useful goals
- Monthly updates on development of the protocol and the projects both new and existing.
- Set up bounties for various cips
- evangelized CP to the larger crypto universe
- worked on listing xcp on various exchanges.
I think now more than ever such a foundation should be banded back together, in whatever shape or form that makes sense. -
The founders and the core dev team are killing it, we should just let them keep rolling
-
I’m going to be releasing some sub assets for the KEKSBASILISK. Can someone remind me of some sub asset basics please? Is it a new name space for a sub asset, or does it have to be an unclaimed name space compared to *all* XCP assets?
-
If there happens to be any KEKSBASILISK holders here, here’s a paste about the details:

Does anyone know how xchain's XCP volume is calculated? looks like there was ~$1M volume in the last 24hrs???
-
DexTrade is volume and price I believe
Pretty sure a bot is running over there, but I’ve never seen it this high -
FYI - though I’m not sure if this is still relevant
-
No idea how xchain calculates this but 1M seems highly unlikely!
-
Pretty convinced the bot creates more volume when there are some actual trades. Real volume on dex trade is way less than you think
There arent even enough XCP available on the market to create this kind of volume -
-
im thinking its taking into account all the orders being placed not just sold

There is an imposter of me going around trying to scam people. They are using a trick where they hide their username in TG privacy settings and then putting my handle in their bio so it looks “legit”. Please be vigilant and don’t fall for these tricks. I will not contact you unsolicited to make “deals”.
-
-
pretty clever phishing
-
but mike, if I send you .1 ETH will you send me 2 back?
-
Telegram really needs to fix this. I didn’t realize you could suppress your handle. Makes it way too easy to impersonate
-
How do you make your Telegram public username private?
Answer (1 of 3): Making your Telegram public username private is a straightforward process that helps enhance your privacy on the platform. While prm4u focuses on amplifying your social media engagement across various platforms in a compliant and qualitative manner, it recognizes the importance o...

my gut says they knowingly allow this stuff

they don't encourage it, just don't fix it with some intentionality

I'm holding you personally liable for all imposters Space Mike.

Sorry bros, every time I get it a DM about crypto it smells 99% like a scammer, so for better or worse, the invitation to "jump in my DMs to purchase a counterparty wallet" sounded similar.

a rapid question
-
i'm making an asset on freewallet with testnet and i want put an image in my asset, how i can do it?
-
i didn't found my asset on CoinDaddy idk how i can search Tesnet Assets/Token
-
Add and verify your Bitcoin address first
-
I can't use my testnet bitcoin address
-
CoinDaddy don't make me able to do that
-
Testnet unavailable

A lot of broadcast transactions happening today - minting GAS (mimicking Ethereum?) and they are not paying any XCP fees in the process
-
-
That's a BTNS mint I think
-
Correct - why not fork BTNS off like SRC did?
-
fwiw assets that are created in broadcasts won't be able to leverage new features like atomic swaps.
-
and can't really interoperate with other counterparty assets.
-
Similar to zero issuance numerics i guess
-
yeah. IMO better way to do it is to _extend_ issuances, like Stamps. Get to leverage the platform's functionality, otherwise your metaprotocol is a bit of an island.
