Gm, can devs please asap and in a comprehensive way clarify how counterparty artists are going to manage dispensers going forward with the updates?
Around two weeks ago it was explained to me that with the upgrade it will become more simple. That we would open a number of dispensers on our source address with 1 tx and that they would not be triggered together but individually. That we finally, with the trade of a little less privacy, receive individual dispenser funds directly on our source address and therefore even safe the tx to collect btc from individual fresh dispenser addresses.
Now I read between the lines that we perhaps need up to 3 tx’s to open and close dispensers on fresh addresses and to collect btc from dispenses on such fresh addresses. That only one dispenser can be opened on the source address and that artists need to wait for that one dispenser to be empty until they can setup the next dispenser on the source address.
How is it? -
you shouldn't need to open dispensers on fresh address
-
are devs planning to change free wallet icon ?
that crap looks like a scam. and i have to explain to everyone i am recommending that this thing is real. icon looks like drawn by 3 years old, looks scary, creepy and makes negative impact.
also , did anyone from devs tested new wallet version before releasing it? there are many errors and even main functions arent working.
how would i rate v2 release?
negative.
im not impressed -
-
Yeah, the Freewallet logo needs an upgrade/rebranding, maybe bring it up in the Freewallet chat group?
-
that was told like 100 times
-
-
-
-
-
Why then so many rumours about it? Why isn't it the priority of the devs to explain the new dispenser workflow first hand? To explain how that works with multiple dispensers next to each other on source/main address? To explain how artists can safe tx's?
-
The first time I saw it I also had to double check with my CP friends before installing…😅 maybe this logo has some connection to a super meaningful childhood story for one of the devs
-
i told you lol. thats what im saying.
least to say it looks creepy -
-
-
-
Also requires alot of trust to import a seed phrase into a new wallet, and also then your are kind of exposing yourself if there's any security risks on the computer you use, I mean easy to tell people just import your seed phrase to all these new wallets, but should also point out that also brings risks.
-
I would say better to create new wallet offline, on a safe device and send any assets there that you want there, so you are not risking your whole wallet.
-
Hi Do we need to hold XCP to attach assets to utxo rn?
-
Gm. Agreed, this should have been discussed widely with the community and artists before making the changes. Perhaps the changes were necessary, and that is fine, but there should have been a general plan for how we would deal with dispensers following the changes. Right now, I feel compelled to use Horizon for dispensers simply to feel secure about my dispensers.
-
So is it clear for horizon but unclear for freewallet today?
So on horizon we can have multiple dispensers from source and they are not at risk to dispense together? -
-
idk dude
-
As far as I remember, it wasn't discussed in the Bitcoin Stamps community.
-
Evan and adam have nothing to do with freewallet. That is Jdog. If you want something that looks less like malware from 2007 check out wallet.unspendablelabs.com
you can import your existing freewallet seeds
As a plus it’s also a web wallet so you can use it on mobile.

Hello guys. Glad to see you all here today
-
No, freewallet just had an issue that has been fixed. You should be able to use dispensers the same way in both wallets
-
You can make a new one too. You can import for ease of use. Or you can keep using freewallet
-
The dispenser changes were discussed extensively over many months.
The core issue before:
You could open up a dispenser on an address that was not yours. This meant that people could do awful things like dispense illegal images from an address you owned without your consent.
Therefore AddrIndexRs was added in, I think, the fall of 2022 or 2023. It worked around the problem by mandating that you open dispensers on a new address with no transaction history. Unfortunately, this is an unmaintained piece of software that made performance improvements beyond a certain point impossible. We all saw last week how chaotic it is when counterparty-core couldn’t keep up with the volume of transactions. If a metaprotocol is slow enough, is possible for a metaprotocol to never catch up with the rate of new blocks on the bitcoin blockchain. Therefore, performance is critical to the long term viability of Counterparty, especially as new and exciting features are added and drive new users and more transactions to the network. -
Now, you can open up a dispenser on the address where the assets reside instead of needing to move them somewhere else first. This is the easiest way to open a dispenser and allows you to open a dispenser in one transaction, but it is limited because you can only have one dispenser open at a time if you don’t want a “multidispenser”.
If you want to open a dispenser on a new address, then you need to move the assets, move the BTC, and open the dispenser, which is 3 transactions. -
More changes are in progress to reduce this number down to 2 in the near term.
-
-
-
It's a (vintage😁)dex...UI/UX mostly designed by volunteers half decade ago or older 😂
-
-
FreeWallet simply shows the orders that are open on counterparty… if you want there to be more orders, there needs to be more users on counterparty listing orders
-
Hotel California, man. Why would you ever want to sell?
-
Awesome so we went from it being one transaction to three transactions and we’re supposed to be excited that soon it will only be two transactions to open a dispenser on a new address… lol.
Well, I guess at least I should be happy that you’re no longer calling me a liar and saying I’m spreading misinformation as you have been for many weeks. It just sucks that the community has to suffer in the meantime. 🤷🏻♂️ -
-
-
If deposit and withdrawal are inconvenient, no one is willing to use it. If BTC settlement is used, there should be many people placing orders for trading
-
-
Love waking up to another round of “blame jdog” and “ we talked about this and the community just wasn’t paying attention to these changes”
Now I am off to yoga, and then another seven hours of tattooing… getting poked by a needle for seven hours is much more fun than continuing to participate in this chat😂😂😂 -
-
-
What kind of tattoo do you want?
-
-
I advised best on the scenario presented, creating a dispenser on a new wallet with assets from freewallet, everyone is free to do as they please, but is my strong opinion if your are to advise people to just simply use pass phrase in a new wallet then thee risks should also be mentioned, hence my statement.
-
You can audit the code, which is open source.
-
Haha, very cool
-
You can view my penis but doesn't mean u have to suck it, I trust the wallet I've been using for years over some new wallet, but if you read my comment, it is simply warning of potential risks when using passphrase, don't know what you are arguing over
-
I didn’t realize we were arguing, but sure, sounds good
-
Thanks for mentioning your penis to the chat
-
You claiming I don't know what options I have for using a new wallet, then claiming safety because you can check the code, my advice was for the general user, that doesn't know what the code means anyway
-
And your welcome
-
-
Cool, i’ll let everyone get back to fear mongering without any technical background and a complete unwillingness to learn. Or we can start talking about your penis? tell us more!!
-
You must have last word it seems lol
-
Read my comment dumbass
-
Is basic safety
-
Telling people to be careful when using 12 word passphrase is not fear mongary, too many people have lost alot already
-
-
Yes, my explanation said that
-
But no, as far as I understand it, it was not possible to open up a dispenser on an address with transaction history prior, because of the illegal image distribution angle. Now it is possible.
-
Yeah doge…. Hector likes to talk like he knows what the hell he’s talking about….. some of the stuff he says is almost convincing…. But those of us who’ve been around the community for longer than the past six months when he joined know there’s a lot more history than what he seems to just regurgitate and guess at….
Also, gotta take everything he says with the grain of salt , since for 6+ months I’ve been called a liar by him repeatedly for saying that dispenser updates will require users to complete three transactions to open a dispenser on a new address….. It is only after the functionality is released and users see that I am not a liar, and that in fact, he’s been gaslighting for many many months, that he admits it’s actually three transactions, but you should be thankful because soon it will only be two🤷🏻♂️😜
No apologies for mispeaking or calling me a liar for many months of saying I’m toxic and a horrible developer …. Simply moving the goal posts to suit his narrative of counterparty is improving and soon we will go from three transactions back down to two.
I’ve learned to expect nothing less from him .
Tho occasionally you will get something that seems like a heartfelt comment and burying the hatchet , only to then see more snarky comments from him🤷🏻♂️😜
His own words reveal is true character to those are watching. -
Sick asset! Turn that shit up! 🐸🪖🎧
-
-
-
Where did we ever talk about dispensers lol? you’re confusing me with other people
-
It’s alright, I think I and many other people have explained exactly the changes that are present. People who are interested in the continued technical development of counterparty can read what I have written, or all of the documentation on github. People who are interested in ad hominem attacks and repeating the same angry tirades over again in hopes of some unclear outcome can continue here. I’ll just bump my explanation and it’s a good place to leave it for me.

BitcoinOS (@BTC_OS) on X
After Satoshi’s departure, experimentation within the Bitcoin community led to controversies, especially with projects like Counterparty. Counterparty lets Bitcoin users embed arbitrary data in the blockchain, empowering features like token creation. https://t.co/JQcU5el91E
-
FYI, if you guys took the time to ask why this change was implemented into counterparty, you would’ve learned that you could only open a dispenser on a new address with no bitcoin or counterparty transaction history associated with it…. So not quite as horrible as you’re trying to make it sound like dispensers were able to be opened on other people’s addresses….. They were only able to be opened on brand new addresses with no history.
And since you never asked, you were never made aware that the reason this functionality was added, was because users were tired of having to send BTC and assets to addresses in order to set up dispensers…. And instead preferred to set up dispensers on a brand new address using only one transaction to open the dispenser, and one transaction to close the dispenser and return the funds back to the originating address
This functionality was called the ‘origin’ address updates, and allowed users to open and close dispensers on addresses using one transaction to open one transaction to close…. Versus what we have been left with now, which is three transactions to open a dispenser on a new address, and three transactions to close the dispenser and return funds to the originating address.
You are correct in that you did create a github issue and talk in circles to justify why you felt this change was necessary, but according to your own screenshots and chat history, all you were concerned about was the misconception that you were opening dispensers on other people’s addresses, and painted address indexers as a huge problem that counterparty needed to remove, all in order to justify these dispenser changes.
We are where we are now, and I have no interest in digging up shit, github issues, and pointing out that I brought this issue up many many many times to you, however, I feel it is worth saying that your “ open up dispensers on other people’s addresses” narrative is entirely false 🤷🏻♂️🤣 -
See the quote above about Addrindexrs.
-
Such a quick reply, vector, it’s clear you didn’t even read my reply…. lol.
Yes, I’m aware of your views on addressindexers…. According to you, they’re horrible and need to be removed immediately…. And yet counterparty function with them for many years.🤷🏻♂️😜
We can have differences of opinions, but the fact remains you continue to spend false narratives in order to try to justify your unnecessary changes😜
And now, as a result, counterparty dispensers are now more difficult to manage and more expensive for users to use, and even with your proposed improvement of only taking two transactions to open a dispenser, it is still more expensive cumbersome to use counterparty dispensers than it has been for the past few years🤷🏻♂️ -
I guess it’s easier to just thumbs up everything I say then address hard questions about why functionality has been removed, Waco, Dave’s accepted venture capital funds without disclosing it to the community, etc.
Gotta love the transparency and sense of community in this “community” project🤣😂 -
also without he new message for dispenser, this would be possible with no protocol modifications:
https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-core/issues/2539Transaction chained with XCP dispense and utxo attach is just performing the dispense · Issue #2539 · CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-coreIm creating a tx to reduce friction for users when xcp fee is active (as i know that now is 0) that has 2 msgs: dispense for XCP encoded in multisig utxo attaching encoded in OP_RETURN its weird bc...
-
What did I say that was false? Please provide a direct quote.
-
Here to learn.
-
Without being a dev, with dispensers, if you interact with the transaction that creates the dispenser, rather than the address holding the dispenser, you can set up multiple dispensers on the same address and dispense based on the transaction, not the address. This way, you won’t risk losing assets when managing multiple dispensers on one address.
-
Can someone build this, please?
-
Are you offering a bounty to implement this? I am sure you will have some takers if you’re paying!
-
If you were here to learn, then you would’ve already read my comments where I stated at least three or four times over the past couple days that for a number of months you have been saying I’ve been lying and it would only take one transaction to open dispensers on new addresses..
Funny how the narrative seems to shift to “here to learn” when you’re called out, yet all the rest of the time you talk like you know wtf your talking about😜 -
-
Still waiting for the direct quote, take your time, you have a busy day today!
-
Not gonna waste any more time or energy on your trolling, sir…. Hope you have a good day and manage to get outside and touch grass versus trolling all day.
People who been here for a while see you for who you are, a frustrated little troll🤷🏻♂️ -

No...
And its not "the logo" he has a name... its Wally The Wallet and i do a voice for him that is hilarious. He pops up like Clippy and says "dont forget to nevwr share ur seed phrase" and just wants everybody to be safu.
He's like Smokey The Bear... except for ur monies... which is better -
Hello everyone, yesterday I bought some PEPEREPUBLIC from a dispenser but never got the cards, I would really appreciate if someone knows what can I do
-
Whats with you heathans... Wally The Wallet ain't going anywhere
He cares about all the little satoshis and utxo's out there -
At the moment, I’m not offering a bounty for this, but it’s an interesting idea! If there’s enough interest and it seems feasible, I might consider setting something up in the future.
-
lol man . i am saying that the crap isnt working.
there were couple of updates in past few days and none of them works.
even dispensers doesnt work.
so my question is,
has anyone tested the new version before launching it live? i bet not. -

what a childish attitude
-
-
-
-
Jdog is just unable to keep up technically with the pace of the core dev team, so he pretends it’s all based on principles. None of it is that important because he will probably be irrelevant in 6 months when Freewallet can’t support the pace of development of new features on Counterparty, and people look for other solutions that can. This process is already starting, that is why everyone is complaining that Freewallet is having issues.
-
Ok…. Top 10 xcp holder here… got 1% of the supply, but suuure ur bags are bigger.
The childish attitude is asking where are all the people that support FreeWallet , they’re all around you bro you’re just choosing to ignore them… lol -
-
Lol… yeah I’m unable to keep up with the pace of the team… that’s why my wallet supported mints before horizon wallet did, and has more features
Totally unable to keep up with the pace of development even though I released a Wallet update last night with changes to use the V2 end point since the core developers forced that change .
As you continue to talk, it becomes more and more transparent that all your motivations are personal and you’re just talking bullshit, bro….
Keep trying to paint me as the bad guy who’s technically unable to keep up yet my wallet has more features is able to move faster , my explorer manages to stay up when counterparty core, and their new explorer cannot, etc.
All you contribute is bullshit, opinions, and trolling to counterparty -

i talk only about 1XCP sizes , im not touching dust payments on these fees. can refund them when fees are 1b/sats IF I WILL HAVE TIME FOR THAT.
or another option is, i could return 1xcp sizes too deducting fees from people pockets and not from myself. and if there will be anything left to send i can send. simple as that. i am not paying from my pocket for the errors not made by me. -

Why won’t Unspendable tell us who’s funding them. The community deserves to know

What’s the conflict?

Have some respect bro JDog is one person who kept this entire protocol running for the past decade.
-
Jdog is super disrespectful to me personally, I don’t feel any responsibility to be respectful to people who are assholes to me
-
Whats wrong with open source
-
The source is open
-
-

That’s not what open source is? But i defer to the UL people
-
source === source code

All of the source is open.

Don't pout
-
I don’t mind, he can keep sending all the classic gifs he likes to send. But i am not gonna be nice to him. Is that pouting?
-
I mean I'm sure you're curious lol :) but I don't think it's important. No one cared who the investors/donors in @BrrrGuy's 17 companies were when he was "maintaining" counterparty for 9 years.
As @vectorconfetti said, Counterparty Core is 100% open source and we do all issue tracking and prioritization 100% in public. -
-
lol…. I’m dispresctful to u because you’ve called me a liar many times re-the 3tx vs 1tx issue, among other things…. Our relation ship didn’t start out this way, bro….. your unwavering support for the court, developers and saying things that were untrue while trying to gaslight me is how we got to where we’re at.
Also, really cute that you can heart this Adam. -
Are you jdog? Or another free wallet dev?
-
Nice trying to deflect bro… to be clear I never had any investors or took on any venture-capital and as I’ve stated numerous times I funded counterparty to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars out of my own pocket…. My motivations have always been clear, I’ve been here for the community keeping this project alive…. Long after you and your team took off to build a for-profit company which has since failed and been sold.
The fact that you’re a core developer and have not been transparent with your funding, your motivations, etc. Is very concerning to myself and other members of the community. -
still waiting for these quotes where i say the things you say i am saying. Otherwise I am not having conversations where you pretend I say stuff I never said to make another dumbass “point”. I’ll just wait those 6 months
-
It’s jdog
-
Everything I have done for counterparty has been for the community and to push the technology forward…. None of my projects on counterparty have ever been profitable as money is not my motivation…. Push pushing the technology forward and maintaining this as a community driven project has always been my motivation.
Your motivation still remains unclear as you are not transparent with the community. -
I am J-Dog… I choose not to participate in this channel from my main account as I no longer engage in counterparty on a daily basis…. And I wanna remove all of this negative crap from my sphere of influence….. I have only been engaging the last couple weeks due to these forced changes in the latest version of counterparty, needing to keep my explorer up and working while all the other wallets and explorers fail, and to keep counterparty community members from losing funds
I have been always here for the counterparty community and always put their needs above my own .
I will very shortly be going back to disengaging and being quiet and letting the core devs steer things where they want…. But I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that counterparty is now more difficult to use in some instances, that I have been gaslit for many months while trying to draw attention to these issues, and pointing out that there is more going on in the background that is not being discussed in a transparent way -
Can’t wait
-
Once again, you failed to read what I say, and just talk at me rather than digest what has already been said.
I will once again state. I’m not gonna waste any more of my time, digging up issues and digging through chats to prove that you have been gaslighting me and calling me a liar for many months about the three transaction versus one tx on dispensers.
I don’t need to defend myself, my long history with counterparty speaks for itself. I have always been 100% transparent.🤷🏻♂️ -
yet you constantly are in here defending yourself and participating daily. Go work on BTNS or xchain or another one of your “companies”.
-
Of course you can’t wait for me to be quiet and leave… then you can go back to talking like you’ve been here forever and you know what the hell you’re talking about…. And you won’t have anyone around to call you out
-
I am sure someone will pick up your important mantle.

@BrrrGuy restricted from chat?

Who is funding XCP development?

right now it's mostly my company Unspendable Labs

3. we do understand that you was working hard, but if you got paid for that then it doesnt look like sacrifice to me lol. -

Nice job trying to remove me and stop me from being able to speak in this channel Adam…. Except you forgot I’m still the owner of this channel.
Sorry you feel that me asking questions about your motivation since you’re not clear with who’s funding you , and calling out you’re forcing changes into counterparty without community consensus disturbed you so

I raised funds a few times for a community manager and paid them to put out community updates each month in a newsletter, organize dev meetings and updates.
I raised funds a few times for exchange listings to get Counterparty listed on exchanges after many years of having no exchange listings
I rasised funds to help cover some of my costs hosting xchain.io and building freewallet for many years on my own dime (never raised enough to cover my costs)
I DID raise funds to fund Javier and I going full-time on counterparty for 3 years, and we would have LOVED to push a bunch of changes into counterparty, and proposed quite a few, however as this was a COMMUNITY driven project at the time, and there was not enough community consensus to force changes into the protocol, we held off on forcing contentious changes into the protocol.
YES, you are seeing lots of updates now, however the circumstances have changed, and the core devs have taken control, decided what THEY feel are the best changes for CP, and pushed them forward without listening to what the community really wants or feels about some of these changes. Some of these improvements are great and move things in the right direction, some are not and take functionality backwards. In addition the current devs have scrapped the whole idea of "community driven updates", by essentially throwing away Counterparty Improvement Proposals (CIPS) which is how Counterparty users and devs proposed updates and discussed them and moved them forward. Now it is just the core devs who decide what is "no longer necessary" and what needs to be "depreciated" or changed, and move these initiatives forward on their own, without community consensus.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but lets be very clear, I have never profited from my involvement with Counterparty, most of the funds I raised went to pay for community members and developers to keep things alive and push forward changes.
I stuck around counterparty and funded it for many years (to the tune of $100k+) out of my own pocket, because I believed in the truly decentralized community driven nature of the project.
My views have changed, and I have moved on, and am only engaging enough to ensure that the tools that I have built, and which the community relies on to interact with Counterparty, continue to work. -
I took $600K in funds to dev for 3 years, the market took a shit, that $600k held in BTC turned into $200k... and I stuck around funding Counterparty development out of my own funds for the remaining 2 years.... didn't raise anymore funds, didn't say "ooops, ran out of funds" and walked... I stuck by my word and kept funding servers and development out of my own pocket to the tune of $200k/year... going $400K into my personal hole to support CP

-
-
-
dunno... not joining it, this is the CP channel that has been for many years, and happy to give Adam back his admin powers and let him run things as he has been free to do so for 9+ months.... However, booting me out to censor me in an attempt to avoid answering difficult questions about why he is not being transparent will not be tolerated.
-
Extremely childish behavior. Trying to ban a dev who maintained for so many years by someone who is "maintaining now " just for asking a few questions. Far tougher accusations, counter-accusations were being levelled during the stamp imbroglio and didn't see anyone getting banned by Jdog for that

No war, I stepped away from counterparty dev a while ago... am just a dev who runs a wallet and explorer... but, one who has asked some questions which make the current core devs uncomfortable, so they wanna ban me rather than answer the questions.... Seems like it could be a simple thing to just answer the question rather than continue to not and create other channels... but to each their own 🤷️️️️️️

If they ban Jdog from all the chats how will they know they know the next time they drill through the fuse box trying to hang a picture of the foxwoods or Mohican Sun or whatever they are supposed to be turning this into?

It’s a learning curve and some of us are waiting for the rest to catch up

Is there a problem with the api not generating the dispense tx?
-
Apparently the problem is in Freewallet, I made a transaction through Horizon and it worked perfectly.
-
I tried the v1 api yesterday and bought some stuff and it worked?
-
its wallet issue
-
-
Everything is fine
-
-
-
I thought free wallet just did compose_send on the v1 api… which should work?
-
-
Not you.. ur not fine... you are a thief
-
-
-
what have i stolen may i ask?
-
-
-
-
CP API is working fine for dispensers... both Horizon and FreeWallet use the CP API to generate the BTC send tx, and the API automatically converts the normal BTC send into "dispense" if there is a dispenser on the receiving address... If you buy from a dispenser, you just gotta use a counterparty wallet (FreeWallet, Horizon) now... but AFAIK, both work fine... and I too bought from a dispenser using freewallet yesterday and it worked fine.

BTC

howp

Refusing to send back 1 xcp worth because it's not "worth your time" is stealing... thus... thief... its not rocket surgery
-
-
it cost me money

I sent funds for 2 XCP

Sell your body in the park

I think ninja is still on 9.6….
-
-
Now we're talking...
-
-
Try again, should work fine, has worked for me... if in doubt, feel free to use Horizon 👍️️️️️️
-
pay me to find time to refund dust payments
-
-
-
I think ninja didn’t upgrade. That may be the source of the problem
-
first lesson to teach you
-
They have dispensers triggering with no cp op return
-
-
-
-
yup... they should def use CP API to generate the BTC send then
-
it happened to me as well just this morning received the Bitcoin in dispenser host address but dispenser wasn't triggered.
-
-
I don't argue with people who type all esl
-
Freedom fries... after all
-
Lol agreed
-
Yes, that's exactly what I'm explaining to you. A few days ago it wasn't working and I reported the problem. I just checked again and it worked fine. But I don't understand why they keep saying that the dispensers are failing. xD I also see that tokenscan is recording the transactions again
-
could be ppl using dispensers the way they have been for years and just sending BTC from a normal wallet... in order to use dispensers now, gotta use a counterparty-compatible wallet.
-
-
oh so now its even more complicated
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
So the wallets we previously had open with dispensers no longer work? Or did I understand wrong?
-
you will never understand it
-
Buying from a dispenser now requires using a compatible wallet
-
-
is there any warning anywhere
-
-
This talk about the CP API correcting dispense transactions (a good thing) is probably empowering users, who think they understand, to create their own problems. There is no guarantee their wallet or service will use the CP API and they are not technical enough to grasp the concepts. They assume this magical API will solve all of their problems. We as devs should not assume that users understand.

-
It was discussed in here leading up to the update?

-
You hope people don't ask for their money back... lot of wishful thinking on all sides
