I had a thought/question. Can someone sign a message from a non Counterparty aware wallet to verify ownership of tokens? For example, Alex could have an address set up for the dispenser, someone sends x amount of BTC and now owns the token on Counterparty, but it doesn’t appear in their wallet. Would the message signing still verify ownership on his end?

In order to verify ownership of the token the wallet would need to do 2 things

1.) Verify that the wallet address holds the desired token
and
2.) Verify that the user is in control of the wallet address that holds the token via signing a message

Most wallets can sign a message, but not sure about automatically doing a callback to a server to verify that the message is valid.

Currently freewallet Mobile and Desktop wallets are the only wallets I am aware of which can sign a message and broadcast a callback to a URL with the signed message info, so that the server can verify the authenticity of the signature (and check if the wallet address has the desired token in it)

Counterparty or the XCP Protocol writes the data inside Bitcoin by using UXTOs.

The cool thing is, even if everyone stopped running a Counterparty (CP) Node, as long as Bitcoin exists, the data will always be there. You can just plug and sync the CP node at a later date and time to get CP and its data running again.

As long as Bitcoin exists, so will CPs data.

Super easy to issue tokens. The cool thing about CP tokens is they are vanity named. So every token actually has a name, not just a contract number.

seem to be getting the runaround from Probit now saying that the listing price for their exchange is $25K minimum instead of the $15K they offered when I started collecting funds for the listing via the dispenser... will keep you guys updated... VERY disappointing behavior

Just confirmed with probit that the CEO changed the price because of the drop in BTC price and now only accepts USDT and not BTC and that the minimum listing price is $25K... very shady behavior IMO

Unfortunately the BTC price drop in the recent months has caused exchanges to start acting in sketchy ways... very disappointing behavior from these exchanges.

I'll reach out to XT.com (the second choice in the poll) and verify their listing price... I believe what we have collected to date should cover the listing on xt.com, but will verify with them and let you know

XT does have 8X the total volume in USD vs Probit so maybe that is a better option anyways.

Counterparty and Ethereum are very different beasts with very different goals. ETH aims to be a general playground where anything can be possible, but is constantly changing the system and as a result, it is not a stable platform for development, and quite often has many bugs/flaws/security holes.... Versus Counterparty which aims to be a rock solid platform with all the common features hard-coded and standardized (issue, send, exchange/swap, etc).... There have been a number of improvements to Counterparty over the years, and yes it is still under active development, however the dev progress is much slower as we do not believe in adding features to the platform until there is clear demand for the feature (user demand backed by actual real-world use-cases.. not just "it would be nice if it had this feature").... Recently we added Dispensers which are basically vending machines that sell tokens directly for BTC in a single transaction.... You send a BTC payment to a dispenser, and the token is credited back to your account in the same transaction.... BTC fees seem to be MUCH lower than ETH the past few years. If you want credit card options... your going to have to go with a centralized exchange like Coinbase... as far as buying XCP, you can purchase XCP using BTC from a.) dispensers (vending machines).. b.) from the Decentralized Exchange (DEX).. or c.) from a centralized exchange like vindax.com or dex-trade.com

You really only need XCP if you plan to register named asset names or subassets or perform some actions like dividends.... you don't need to hold any XCP to just use the platform... tho holding some XCP does make some interactions easier (like buying things off the DEX)

When “Decentralised Exchange” will be launched on FreeWallet (Mobile)? Much needed as accessing laptop/computer for every transaction is not convenient.

At this point I have no plan to revisit freewallet mobile to add the exchange interface.... I think a better use of my time is writing a web-wallet which will work on desktop and mobile and support the DEX, dispensers, and all the current features.... probably 4-6 months away from that type of project tho as I am pretty busy with some other projects currently... but yes, having a mobile wallet that works with the dex and all current CP features is definitely something we need.

in the meantime... counterwallet.io is probably your best bet for using the DEX on mobile

I don’t follow the theory of these assets, what exactly they are and how they’re used. I assume in counterparty they’re named assets, since you have to give the asset a character name...

with named assets the string cannot start with the letter A. in the system there is the availability to register assets whose name starts with A followed by a string of numbers which need to be within a specific range.

The benifit: only btc is needed. the registration does not cost XCP as well. Great way for new users to enter the space. selling this kind of asset for XCP then registering their name

The drawback: These assets do not have the availability of creating child assets, like named assets do. They are harder to memorize than phone numbers because of the length

afaik dividend to dispensers all the other functionality is there

I think fractional reserve banking may make some people more prosperous, but i don’t believe it increases overall prosperity. Other things do. People controlling those activities may take advantage of money as a tool, and that money may be fractionally reserved.

What is the main utility of Counterparty? Is it basically for minting coins whose transactions are verified on the Bitcoin network?

Instead of the term "minting" we issue tokens.

there are no individual smart contracts. we are all using the same protocol. when there is an upgrade every named token gets it. that is another thing, we have namespace that is shared for the whole project. make human verification that much easier

There is no Counterparty Blockchain. Counterparty’s blockchain is Bitcoin.

Advantage using CP would be it’s secured by the most secure chain. Cheaper to send than ETH.

Use cases can be many. Right now, main use case is the historical NFT projects like Spells of Genesis or Rare Pepe but could definitely extend into share ownership or equity ownership of assets.

It’s possible, but seeing the closed dispensers is important. Assuming you’re referring to Xchain. Millions of features could be added but one guy donating his time and running it for cp.

in freewallet desktop it is possible to sort all open dispensers for the tradepair you seek, such as xpc. by clicking the top of the column the data will be reordered.

In FreeWallet only XCP & PEPECASH can be seen, no other dispenser is visible
