So it’s not the same thing as burning supply right?
  • @jdogresorg #104200 08:33 PM, 12 Nov 2021
"burning" is a specific thing that was done with XCP where you could burn/destroy BTC and get XCP back
  • @jdogresorg #104201 08:34 PM, 12 Nov 2021
you can send funds to a "burn" address.. but it just locks funds up in an unusable address, and does not remove the amount from the supply
  • @jdogresorg #104202 08:34 PM, 12 Nov 2021
you can "destroy" funds to actually remove the funds from the supply and have the suppy amount displayed on xchain lowered

hey im trying to use the enhanced asset option on coindaddy but everytime i change the asset description in freewallet to the .json path it adds an asterisk and it doesnt work

Try putting the https:// in front of xcp.coindaddy.io

ok ill give that a try. one thing im waiting on the mempool for is changing the asset name in the json path from the string of numbers to it's actual name since it's a subasset

    Hi all !
  • @harrybnch #104319 01:39 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Quick one (I am sure it has already been asked): is there a way to check when a picture has been added / modified for a specific xcp asset ?
  • @Niftyboss1 #104320 01:49 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Not a simple question... To my knowledge, you can only tell if a picture was modified if both the URL that points to the JSON and the URL that points to the image contain some sort of strong authentication hash that depends on the file contents and version (such as links to IPFS, github, imgur if I'm not mistaken)
  • @Niftyboss1 ↶ Reply to #104320 #104321 02:04 PM, 14 Nov 2021
    Someone technical please confim :)
  • @harrybnch ↶ Reply to #104320 #104323 02:44 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Actually I have same question for the json.
Right now I am checking the headers of the URL and find a date under “last modified” but I am not sure it is the best way to check
  • @harrybnch #104324 02:47 PM, 14 Nov 2021
And would like to know if there are some proof on chain. Look like all the json and pic are stored in xchain website only (except some creator who stored like the SHA256 of the file on chain)
  • @XCERXCP ↶ Reply to #104321 #104326 03:14 PM, 14 Nov 2021
You can see if an image was added at a later date looking at any description changes on the issuance tab.

As far as a json file changing the image that has already been posted in the description, not sure about that.
  • @harrybnch ↶ Reply to #104326 #104328 03:27 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Not sure changing or uploading an image is adding something on the issuance page
  • @harrybnch #104329 03:30 PM, 14 Nov 2021
I have example of token with issuance lines 7y ago but image uploaded few days ago (confirmed by issuer)
  • @johndxb ↶ Reply to #104328 #104330 03:32 PM, 14 Nov 2021
If image is stored in the description (like the imgurl shortcuts) then you will see the change in “issuance”
  • @johndxb #104331 03:33 PM, 14 Nov 2021
If the image is linked with a json in the description, then nothing prevents anybody to change url link in the json - and you will not know
  • @Niftyboss1 #104332 03:46 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Yes the key thing to remember is that only changes to the Description field are logged on the blockchain
  • @mikeinspace ↶ Reply to #104332 #104334 04:00 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Could include a hash of the image in description as an issuance so even if the Json changes then the hash wouldn’t match the image linked in the Json
  • @mikeinspace #104335 04:00 PM, 14 Nov 2021
So there would be evidence of the change
  • @mikeinspace #104336 04:01 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Hash should be an earlier issuance than Json pointer
  • @harrybnch ↶ Reply to #104330 #104339 05:21 PM, 14 Nov 2021
Most of the case the pic is saved under information-> digital artwork
  • @harrybnch #104341 05:22 PM, 14 Nov 2021
    Example here
  • @harrybnch #104342 05:22 PM, 14 Nov 2021
The pic has been added recently here
  • @harrybnch #104343 05:22 PM, 14 Nov 2021

Hi jdog welcome back, hope Vegas was 🎉. I have an issue occuring - every now and then the 48x48 icon disappears on xchain main pages not asset page. Is there a conflict if I have an icon uploaded to coindaddy and an icon from .Json file? Which takes precedence over the other?
  • @jdogresorg #104471 05:27 PM, 15 Nov 2021
if you use a .json file that one should show... if not, then we try to snag the icon you have uploaded to coindaddy... I believe the script for icons runs once every 24 hours.

  • @jdogresorg #104499 08:01 PM, 15 Nov 2021
using XCP on the DEX is easy... just a fire and forget it style order... place your order, check back later, what you were trying to buy will most likely be in your wallet
  • @jdogresorg #104500 08:02 PM, 15 Nov 2021
only using BTC on the DEX is a bit more complex... all other assets, including XCP are much simpler... just place the order and ur done 🙂

  • @heunland ↶ Reply to #104531 #104542 01:45 PM, 16 Nov 2021
Yes another easier way to do the transaction. You can also find dispensers on xchain.io and just send right amount of bitcoin to it from your counterparty wallet to receive the asset. Make sure to check if there are already pending transactions that may empty dispenser and send with high fee
  • @VladdyC ↶ Reply to #104541 #104543 01:56 PM, 16 Nov 2021
Manage your Counterparty assets directly from your node, make sure that more full nodes store the Counterparty transactions to make them more resistant against future attacks from Core developers that might deem the protocol against the goals of the Bitcoin network
  • @LN_03d1_eth_is_a_scam ↶ Reply to #104543 #104544 02:57 PM, 16 Nov 2021
not sure core devs ever actually did anything about it, some of them do think so but never did anything about it, it's popular tale they limit op return bc of it but was more about new standardness rule being limited. there was a major opreturn bug before too that scared ppl. xcp also uses multisig and could do scriptsig embeding

Oh good so you can reverse the transaction on an unconfirmed. That would suck. I guess there's really no way to avoid it. You would need to be able to know an order was queued before it was part of the block chain and lock those funds for a duration to prevent others for buying too.

It’s basically wrapping a BTC address on Eth

Not only btc - it s vaulting an address
  • @johndxb #104975 09:48 PM, 19 Nov 2021
Then you’re sending your cards to that address

    And done
  • @johndxb #104977 09:49 PM, 19 Nov 2021
However it s not free - you will need 300 COVAL to create the vault , and some eth gas to mint it

Will be roughly 200usd - depending on gas price

  • @harrybnch ↶ Reply to #105053 #105054 02:51 PM, 20 Nov 2021
Might I am not using the correct word.
If you know Vogler work for example (2015) you can find the SHA256 of the file on chain
  • @AryanJab #105055 02:52 PM, 20 Nov 2021
I understand things _can_ be encrypted, just wondering what Counterparty would be encrypting in this case. Encryption requires someone to hold a secret. Doubt that's what's being done here. I bet it's simply encoded for easy decoding by anyone in the future.
  • @AryanJab #105056 02:52 PM, 20 Nov 2021

This one uses a SHA256 hash embedded in its on-chain description (within the URL): https://xchain.io/asset/KANDINSKY - I think a relatively simple way to read it straight from the blockchain would be by querying the counterparty API (get_issuance)

    It needs to be decoded - on a windows machine you could try the following XCP API command to query the blockchain: curl -X POST http://api.counterparty.io:4000/api/ --user rpc:rpc --data-binary "{ \"method\": \"get_issuances\", \"params\": { \"filters\": [ {\"field\": \"asset\", \"op\": \"=\", \"value\": \"KANDINSKY\" } ] } , \"jsonrpc\": \"2.0\", \"id\": 0 }"

Has anyone tried to compare the MD5 hashes for CHYNAPEPE? I tried and they don't match. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...

I just tried the copy on xchain too. I keep getting 1035e0ff0f86b2f6ebcb245a347544a1

LOL it looks like onlinemd5.com is buggy as hell! And funnily enough, that's the tool the CHYNAPEPE owner used... Using literally *any* other tool results in 1035e0ff0f86b2f6ebcb245a347544a1
