not sure why your having issues with a 12-word passphrase and copying and pasting... but haven't heard any reports of that in the past if you copied and pasted things correctly

but to your quesion.... private key is linked to an individual address... so if you imported the private key and you can see the address, then you can send the funds

I would suggest you generate a new wallet address, write down your 12-word passphrase, logout... log back in and confirm that the 12-word passphrase works fine in freewallet a second time.... THEN import the private key for your address, switch to that address, and send funds from that address to one of the NEW addresses in your wallet associated with the 12-word passphrase

cant do that bro.... 12-word passphrase in counterwallet/freewallet/RPW DOES NOT work in electrum (different wordlist) and the derivation path in counterparty is different as well.... only thing you can do with electrum is import the private key for an address and then send BTC from that address

Can you expand on this scenario; someone sends a counterparty asset to a known legacy BTC address (a country or celebrity) as a donation or political statement. Can the Celebrity or country ever dispose of the counterparty asset and how? (I think I know the answer but I’m coming from a nontraditional angle) Maybe I need to play with the new desktop version of fw instead of mobile.

YES! use freewallet-desktop.. the mobile version is old/outdated/no longer supported... it still works, but I have no plans to udpate it..... ideally I plan to write a new browser-based wallet which will work for mobile

Sell, burn, send, add to dispenser etc. I fell victim to trying to restore a seedphrase to a hww for btc only mgmt but found out about the derivation and seed words difference. That made me start to think about doing some things differently.

you can take your 12-word passphrase from mobile to desktop no problem... and yes, desktop will allow you to switch to any address and dump the private key for that address (I think I had support for that in mobile too, but it has been a couple years since I worked on the mobile wallet)

What is the difference in a xcp wallet vs a btc wallet? I have gotten different answers in different channels. My questions probably come from reading too many outdated docs and using mobile only. My btc mining and experience goes back to 2011 so I’m not a newb but still a little green on xcp.

XCP transactions are just specially encoded BTC transactions with metadata embedded in the BTC transaction

XCP wallets can generate transactions to move CP assets around and encode the data into BTC transactions.... BTC wallets only deal with BTC, so they are unaware of XCP and any held tokens... to normal BTC wallets, XCP transactions just look like BTC transactions with some extra data in OP_RETURN or multisig encoding or p2sh encoding

Yeah, it was a very tough lesson to learn.... for a number of weeks I would wake up in the middle of the night with panic attacks about what I am going to do for work in 2023, will the community hate me for having to ask for more funds, etc.... but, all I can do is try to stay positive, do the work that the community has paid me to do, and trust that things will work themselves out and that the CP community will support my continuing to work on CP next year.

@jdogresorg how much is needed for another year as a dev? and is there any specific reason for October? i would think we need to have the community donating asap. we struck while the iron was hot last year and even then it took a while. now we dont have as much money moving around and we could need more time to pull it off -
My focus right now is on getting the new counterparty release out the door, which is a pretty massive undertaking, and includes updating counterparty2mysql, xchain, and freewallet... once that is done, I will have some more free time to consider the fundraising options.... Yes, the goal I am targeting right now is $200k (9-10 BTC), which is $140k salary for me for the year, with $60K in taxes for uncle sam, and should cover my dev salary for another year, and the operational costs of xchain.io at its current load of 5-servers/cloudflare.... I am not asking for funds yet because there are some other avenues that I would like to persue to bring in some additional income, which should hopefully reduce the ask from the community a bit. As to your question why October, I believe 3 months should be enough time to raise the funds, and will give people time to organize charity auctions, donations, promos, etc..... I feel right now my time is best spent focusing on putting out a new CP release with some awesome new features (reset token divisibility and oracled dispensers)

Q: Did a multisend (40assets) with default tx fees (1.07$) on Freewallet tonight. Went out smooth but tx neither found on xchain nor mempool after 1h. I understand it can take a long time for tx to confirm but to show up I never experienced such a long time.

You need to use a higher fee when sending multiple assets…. The suggested fee is for a single send…. U prolly sent with too low of a fee and your tx wasn’t relayed to other nodes…. Try sending again and triple the tx fee

no, it is not a per-asset tx fee.... depending on the size of the send, you will need to spend a bit more on BTC tx fees than a single send... if your sending 50 or less, prolly safe bet to triple the suggested tx fee.... if your sending 500 or more, prolly best to do a x8-x10 on the tx fee..... I know it can be a bit confusing right now with the current way I handle fees in freewallet... but, I plan to update freewallet in the near future to allow you to set a satoshis-per-byte type fee instead of having to choose a static fee... once this is implemented, then your MPMA sends and the fee you need to pay the miners would be much more standardized and easy to use.

you can also take your tx hash to blockchair.com and plug it in to see where your tx is in the mempool.... will give ya a better idea of when it will get processed 🙂

@jdogresorg Hey fam. I had a question. Usually I don't need to do this but this one has me stumped. A friend/artist started a FW, put btc and xcp in it, minted a piece and collected a few. He had used the seed phrase several times and it worked as normal.
Another person I will not name told him to start a dispenser through CP wallet. Obviously new seed phrase. When he went back to his FW to reopen it and send the assets to the CP dispenser the SP he had used multiple times opened up a wallet that was not his and was empty with unfamiliar adresses in it. He nor I have been able to figure it out. You are my only chance at figuring this thing out.
I have the seed phrase for the wallet in question.
I have tried importing the private key to a new wallet and it brings up the same wrong wallet address. We are willing to give you what ever info you need to help me solve this issue. TY and Appreciate you and all you do for us. -
A seed phrase should always open up the same addresses in counterwallet/freewallet/RPW.... so what your saying that the same passphrase is accessing different addresses sounds wrong. if the passphrase your entering keeps accessing the "same wrong wallets", then that passphrase is actually working correctly and generating the same addresses again and again in order.... which would make me believe that the "right wallet address" is related to a different passphrase than then one your entering

@jdogresorg Quick question since i can’t recall from 2017 and I’ve been thinking about the upcoming eth merge. When bitcoin was forked (bitcoin cash)- are there technically counterparty assets on the other chain that could be accessed one day? ie; RAREPEPE token on bitcoin cash chain, etc?

CP transactions are just bitcoin transactions with metadata encoded in them... so YES, any txs that existed before the BCH fork would still be on BCH chain... and someone COULD start up a forked version of counterparty which would read in the data from BCH... but that would be a fucking huge nightmare and just confuse people "I have a rare pepe... but on BCH not BTC"...

About a year ago someone was threatening (promising actually) to create a CP fork and run it on BCH and fork the ledger... which again, would be a confusing shit-show.... their reasoning was that BTC was too expensive/etc..... but, since that time we launched Dogeparty and I haven't really heard from that person since... so, guessing it is a dead project

technically yes, someone could fork CP and parse in BCH transactions and all the assets registered on the BTC chain could be recognized on the BCH chain... but I hope that never happens, and I would be very against it (not a fan of BCH and their trying to confuse ppl with the whole Bitcoin Cash is the real Bitcoin drama)

transactions are processed in the order in which they are included in the block... so really up to the miners who mine the block and how they order transactions in the block... but generally, the tx with the highest miners fees are ordered/processed first

j-dog, I am trying to send small amounts of BTC from one QR code to another so that I can move all of my BTC into one QR code. When the transaction is all set in FW the Fee shows 0.80 for Med Priority. When I try to Send Funds, I get an error message saying that I need $6.90 to make the transaction. How can the transaction cost that much, or what suggestions do you have?

it is because you have a bunch of tiny utxos which then in turn make the transaction larger, which makes it require a higher tx fee

try dumping your private key... importing into electrum.. then sending all your BTC from your address back to your address... that will gather all your utxos into a single utxo, THEN your transactions should be small and you can use the suggested fee

then you should be able to import that private key into freewallet.io via QRCODE->Change Address->Options->Import Private key

syncing btc blockchain can take a day or two, building out addrindexrs index can take around 12 hours, then syncing counterparty up can take a few hours (the fednode downloads a bootstrap, so you don't have to spend weeks parsing in the entire chain)

I've noticed that the JSON file for many assets includes fields that aren't included in the XCP documentation. Is there another document somewhere that outlines these 'additional' standards or are they considered just popular but unofficial or proprietary fields that are supported by specific platforms (like RPW, or xchain, etc)? -

So I was about to create a dispenser, instead of creating it on my main address in my freewallet, I decided to create a new addy, send some btc & the asset to it & thus was gonna create the dispenser there.
Now when I did the same & clicked on "create dispenser", the following error came up -
"Error while trying to sign dispenser transaction"

You don’t need to deploy dispensers like that, you can deploy a dispenser remotely on any btc address if it has no transaction history

The seed is the same in the settings -
if you cant view the private key for an address, that address must be associated with a different private key... try makig sure your on the latest version of freewallet-desktop... then logout (click the power button) close the app entirely, reopen it, then enter your other 12-word passphrase.... the only way addresses get populated into freewallet is by importing the private key, or by being generated from a 12-word passphrase... so if the address is in your wallet, it must have been associated with a 12-word passphrase... if you cant access the private key, then its prolly the "other" passphrase that is associated with this wallet

I have only ever used 1 on this system (afaik) -
the answer is it didn't..... the wallet only is able to generate wallet addresses if you import a private key, OR based on a 12-word passphrase... hence why I say if the address your trying to access is not associated with one 12-word passphrase, it must be associated with a different 12-word passphrase

would be ideal if people would jsut create ONE wallet and stop trying to switch wallets... wind up spending more time trying to help people who create multiple passphrases/wallets rather than just using one (which is how the wallet was intended to be used, with one passphrase, not switching between many)

there was an old version of the wallet where addresses persisted in the wallet even when switching passphrases.... that issue has been fixed in latest version of freewallet...t hats the only thing I can think of, you generated multiple passphrases, used a wallet address from passphrase1, while your wallet only had passphrase2 entered (hence why no private key found for that address)

anyway... that is the most likely explaination... cuz freewallet can only add addresses to the wallet in 2 ways, private key or passphrase... so your address had to be added one of those 2 ways
