the proof of work in/on the btc chain is what secures your assets not xcp .. sure xcp can be used to both issue assets and to trade assets but with dispensers xcp is not needed for trade just required for vanity issuance .. plus you pay btc tx fees which secure the btc network when registering assets using xcp or when trading assets for xcp or anytime you move xcp .. xcp can remain cheap while btc tx fees rise
I agree you getting the best security on the btc chain .. but that's thanks to btc and its tx fees not due to the price of xcp -
would be nice to see xcp price rise in some ways (bag holders) but is also good its not too high and vanity assets issuance is affordable to many

The dex is far better.
And with better UI for the DEX, people would more than likely prefer to use the DEX. -
I am seeing people get higher prices on dispensers than on the DeX for the exact same asset .. its funny to see even higher prices on opensea for the exact same asset you can get cheaper via the dex and or dispensers

If you’re referring to btc dex trades, the tx needs a signature by the BTC holder.
CP can’t escrow Bitcoin so a signature is required.
Jdog made freewallet where it auto signs BTC trades buy have you leave freewallet open on desktop.
If it’s not signed, it eventually expires. -

could just be a display issue on xchain where CP says the order is closed (hence the error coming direct from CP) but xchain shows the order as open.... please DM me the specific order info / txhash and i'll dig into it tomorrow or Thursday when I have some time... thank you for bringing this to my attention... I know we have this issue with some orders/dispensers on testnet, so hearing we might have the same issue on xchain mainnet is news to me and something I definitely want to investigate further

UMBRELLA had 600 when dispensed and I sold them at 2 for $100 or less to get them to whoever liked the art.
It also wasn't a random name grab back in the day, it was tied to a future real physical umbrella that we are delivering this year to complete the circle.
It was also the first time something like that was done with XCP, even though it's taken 8 years.
I never made the prices collectors are now selling UMBRELLA for. I distributed to who wanted, not to who could afford.
But I don't want to argue, people can do and collect what they want. I can keep my opinion to myself, don't want to hurt anyone's ideas. -
No argument here, ☂️umbrella has a lot of great qualities I enjoy as well as your distribution method. Just wanted to clarify that SODA is not a random name or money grab. It was created to represent redeemable soda drinks the same year an animation with SODA in the title was created by the artist. The animated short from 2015 will be released as a dividend/subasset once the SODA asset is distributed 👍

bc addresses are just SegWit addresses. If you have Free Wallet you can see your own bc addresses by clicking Address icon -> Change Address. There you'll see anyone can easily use a bc address.

Question: I have received a handful of BTC transactions to a legacy addy (all 100$+) and now if I try to spend to a segwit address via freewallet, the transaction does not go through but the waiting animation keeps circling.
Any hints?
I was about to send 0.5xcp to that addy, which would allow me to sweep it to another addy🤷🏻♂️ Couldn’t find the addy on counterwallet (max. addy creation reached) and not eager to enter the seed to another bitcoin wallet. -
2nd question: Will soon distribute 300 xcp assets to individual legacy addresses. Thinking of doing one large multisend in freewallet. A) can I do all 300 tx’s in one multisend? B) how will it handle the tx fees, respectively can I influence how much fees for those 300tx’s?

Having a problem with the xchain API
I am looking at a couple of addresses and since the output is paginated I use this:

are you sure there are at least 1500 balances on that problem address? could be your at the end of the results already

For context, I have created the seed on counter wallet and trusted a second address slot on free wallet to which I received BTC. Sending and also Sweeping fails and if I try to show the private key in free wallet it says "false"
I wonder if there is another Bitcoin wallet I could try to recover from seed. Electrum, sparrow and exodus didn't do the trick as either only showed other empty addresses or failed to accept the seed for checksum issues.
Maybe someone has a recommendation what other wallet apart from counter or free wallet could be worth a try? -

you can open the debug console and take a look at the XHR request to see more than "server error"..... currently it just throws that generic server error whenever it encounters an error..... looking at the actual XHR request and response should tell you more about the error

For those interested, I could recover the funds.
The issue was that free wallets “change address” function showed me addresses that belonged to previously inserted seeds. By checking all my seeds in freewallet for the address in discussion, I found its private key and could finally spend.
As to why the change address function shows not only addresses belonging to the at the time used seed, no idea. -

Wasaaaap. So I put PEPETHUGLIFE on IPFS and updated the asset description with the ipfs link.
I used the original file from the directory.
The same PEPETHUGLIFE gif file has also been time stamped on bitcoin using open timestamps. Which proves provenance and authenticity of the file.
There's a few places to search for it, but the best seems to be the IPFS desktop client it's self.
here's the link. The more robust the connection between the blockchain asset entry and the asset file, the less right NFT deniers will be. : )

The desktop client offered the link like that. But I think it works with it as well. I just assumed the extra data saves it with the proper name and file extension if right click saved.

where can i get known assets sets? e.g. list of assets belonging to known series such as RAREPEPE, Kaledoscope, SoG, Dank, FakeRare etc. XChain has this knowledge, but it's not a part of their API. So far I have only DABC list, but I would like to have other known sets as well for my PowerShell project.

that is not a valid URL.... the asset description needs to be a valid URL which points to a file which ends in .json if you want the JSON file to be loaded/parsed

Yeah i thought there might be another way. Given that the rare pepe i own still shows the image, despite me changing the description.
But yeah i guess that's s special case cuz of the rare pepe collection. -
correct, cards associated with a official project have their card images hardcoded/served by xchain... so changing asset description doesn't change the image of the card which was accepted to a project

Cool. I wonder if there is a way to integrate IPFS into this system. Tricky part is how long those links are.
The good news, just about any kind of file can be hosted in them.
And as far as the .gif goes, the browser doesn't seem to need the link to end on .gif for the file to play. So looks like that's transmitted in some other way. -

Hey, group new to the space, and have a question. I want to put a MP4 on xchain, but t understand that it's hard to do it, so I converted it into .GIF, as I understand it's the same , as linking a .jpeg So I converted my file into .gif, but when upload it into imgur and open it in new tab, see .MP4 in the end. Why is that, when I uploaded a .gif ?

Hey JDog is there plans to add a counterparty projects/collections tab on Xchain or even in freewallet? I know there’s several now but unless I see a specific asset I’m unsure how many there are now. Lots of growth 💪

definitely plan to do that in the coming week... also am working on final testing of a big MPMA update which 1.) allows users to send up to 1000 assets using MPMA (current method is not very reliable and is hit or miss on if the list will send or not).... and 2.) fixes a serious oversight with MPMA data encoding (we use special addresses to encode the data, these addresses were getting a decent amount of BTC sent to them instead of the minimum DUST amount of BTC... we have fixed that issue).

Unfortunately, my grandfather up in Seattle has been admitted to teh hospital last week and it seems his kidneys are failing, so he is on hospice and expected to pass in a few weeks... so I am making a road-trip up to visit with my grandfather this week before he passes, and to help settle the family affairs (selling his house, packing up all his stuff and putting it in storage or sending it with family members, etc).... so, probably wont be able to get to the MPMA update until next week (its mostly tested, but want to do more testing and be fully present when we do the rollout to production since it is a big update that changes the way we do some p2sh data encoding)

Next week I plan to get the MPMA updates out, do a new Counterparty release, and then get a new freewallet update out with some updates (ability to import segwit private keys, ability to do MPMA sends from segwit addresses, etc)

After that, Javier and I are focusing back on more bugfixes for CP.... trying to get everything rock solid and solve alot of the edge cases (using addresses that start with 3, etc) before we start new development

We also will be working on DIP3 this next month (ability to change asset divisibility for the asset owner who owns 100% of the supply).... so, once we roll that out on Dogeparty, we should be able to pretty quickly implement it into Counterparty

also want to push an update we made to Dogeparty a few months ago up to Counterparty... which is the ability to Issue a token, Lock the token, and Transfer the asset ownership all in a single issuance transaction.... which will be very helpful and save some costs (currently is 3 txs... issue, lock, transfer)
