Why do orders expire so soon using counterwallet? How to set longer orders?
-
Counterwallet cannot access, loading forever
-
This is very bad
-
Before this counterwallet is very fast
-
Pls do something about it
-
I like xcp dex
-
Whats wrong with XCP and BITTREX this is what support team wrote on Twitter
-
-
-
use coindaddy
-
I already got it through
-
It means tell counterparty users stop spamming blockchain with ridiculous low fees causing traffic jams. And for those who are part of the team to do real innovative dev work. No pawn intended. Hats off and thumbs up to those keeping XCP alive and well.

Three letter asset names is sort of like going nuclear right? Press it before we are completely deaded. I don’t see why we shouldn’t have them. At this point, if we aren’t ready for prime time, when will we?
-
* shouldn’t
-
right, pressing it after we are deaded would be dumb
-
let’s do it
-
For clarity concerning the "Counterparty Foundation", I have no connection with that "foundation". The "Foundation" apparently has never been a 501(C)(6) organization and has never, to my understanding, been appropriately run as a 501(C)(6) organization.
-
where did you get the idea that counterparty is "deaded"?
- 30 December 2017 (1015 messages)
-
The Devs, founders, and people that understand the off chain improvements coming with SW and LN seems to have that opinion. What is the value prop of XCP to you Shaun?
-
$1000
-
I think the asset name holders are in control now. Scorched earth move. Sad.
-
What foundation?
-
-
@junseth with his 5th comment in a counterpart chat in 2 years, congrats, special item unlocked ;)
-
-
Yea, thank you for that :)
-
-
-
I’m waiting for Dante’s to tell me. One week he is pro forking to light coin with a snapshot, the next week he is resigning saying there is not such thing as a foundation
-
-
R u so sure?
-
Perhaps it’s obvious
-
-
Bitcoin is the database for Counterparty assets, it can easily be other chains. It’s just a matter of do you think a protocol being used more attracts devs or not. Apparently josh is saying we have a lack of
-
So if we limit the use even further more devs will appear to help?
-
-
Secret episode #2
-
-
-
Agreed
-
-
-
-
-
-
I think people should know what the founders and core git hub maintainers feel.
-
-
There are projects that are deaded now on XCP
-
and that’s fine
-
-
-
there is one project moving to BTrash
-
-
IMHO the only way a fork could work equitably is if you could replicate all wallets exactly, preserving all balances, ownerships and orders on a future snapshot date with exhaustive public notification process over many months, then reinstantiate on a new chain, with same wallet addresses and secret phrases. and I don't even know if that's technically possible.
-
did somebody say sandwichpepe?
-
i like me a good Swiss Emmental melt
-
i’m sure it’s fun to show up once a year and rag the volunteers :)
-
-
not enough manpower
-
atm it's just devon and me
-
and i put like 20% of the work
-
-
-
was there discusssion that took account of the example of the ETH/ETC hard fork outcome?
-
I think sending the project into hibernation and waiting for the big FinCen players to show up is a strategy, and i think that’s what’s going to have to take place now.
-
maybe a big company will show up tomorrow and go, hell yea. never know.
-
-
good
-
that’s why i think LLL is a good move
-
i don’t think it can hurt
-
-
the straw men were created at the start when LLL wasn’t permitted no?
-
why was the foundation non profit rejected and allowed to be deaded?
-
i’ve had a change of heat.
-
is that allowed Dan?
-
What are the chances of fixing the A names problem, no serious FinCen players are going to use Counterparty as an enterprise platform until all letters of the alphabet are available... I said this in November 2016, there was some good discussion on how that might be resolved, but the concerns around disenfranchising XA asset name holders seemed to outweigh the need to fix this?
-
not that anything i saw mean anything just spouting opinions
-
If nobody else kept a copy of the relevant discussion from Slack back then, I think I have a transcript in email... will go find it, if that's of use @droplister?
-
Okay, thank you, will do
-
i’m glad we are getting some more involvement out of all this drama. it’s a good thing regardless of the egos bruised and confusion.
-
it might just be enough to keep things moving in the right direction :)
-
I think we all want Counterparty to not only survive, but thrive and win... just differences of opinion on what that looks like and how to get there?
-
yes, almost parallel universes of difference 😉
-
genuine community consensus is a rare, curious, almost mythical beast...
-
there have been sightings here and there
-
is there a current document encapsulating the biggest threats and points of disagreement?
-
I've spoken with Julian / BF and I understand his commercial requirements.. but he's one founder with a specific set of requirements... so that's a possible pathway that community could consider a broad based migration case for... or there are other options such as Litecoin one which I know very little about at this point? Any other options on the table?
I understand the default position is staying with Bitcoin and continuing to seek optimisations, greater efficiencies. -
-
-
Yes, for Counterparty's current foundation team, developers and available funding, I believe that makes sense
-
-
-
-
yes... if it makes sense for him commercially to do his own fork but the community sees no upside in going that way, he'll do it in whatever way works for him
-
-
well I know its not a fork, what's the correct term, a port?
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
A assets are problematic due to the encoding counterparty uses for their assets
-
-
I believe the A assets problem has to be fixed before anyone can consider developing commercial / enterprise asset trading platforms on counterparty that have credibility in the fintech space.
-
-
basically ABSENT and BSENT are the same asset
-
-
an A at the start of the name encodes as a 0 in the asset ID
-
vaginacoin, haha, what about mooncoin, that's only 2 sats, I'm sure we can take it over :)
-
-
-
-
-
-
problem is what if i want to emit XACALITE
-
(that's a pretty dank reference btw)
-
-
hmmm
-
yes, I understand, moving chains is just swapping deckchairs around, unless it's to open up a compelling new set of functional possibilities not currently available
-
it's not totally crazy...
-
-
-
mapping XA —> A, it's a kludge, not an elegant consistent resolution :)
-
-
-
-
it would be awesome if we just fixed the encoding
-
from Block X no asset can end on A
-
lol
-
-
-
instead of forward encoding, do backward encoding
-
that's true and funny AF in itself
-
so APPLE would be ELPPA
-
EPEPERAR
-
-
-
-
I'm going to read https://counterpartytalk.org/t/idea-allow-assets-starting-with-a/2449 before I throw any more of my own thought bubbles in here :)Idea: Allow assets starting with A
If we reserve the first 2 bytes for a special A asset marker and use the 3rd byte for a length marker, then any asset ID that starts with 0xfff would become a special A asset. The asset id encoding format for A assets will be: 0xffff {1 lengthByte} {5 assetIDBytes} We will need to make an exception for A18446744073709551615 as this action would invalidate this asset: http://blockscan.com/assetInfo/A18446744073709551615. (Or this asset would just turn into the equivalent named A asset ) Th...
-
@droplister did you have a separate CIP draft on CPT more recent than this older discussion?
-
-
ah, thanks got it now https://counterpartytalk.org/t/cip-proposal-open-the-a-namespace/3946/2
I note there's been no responses or feedback on your proposed code at this point.CIP Proposal - Open the 'A' NamespaceThis thread is about a potential CIP that would allow for non-numeric ‘A’ asset names. I have some code that I think covers most of it here, for review and feedback: Result: Non-numeric asset names starting with ‘A’ are valid. Check that assets are numeric rather than “Starts with ‘A’” Todos: Testnet tx fixture for parsing.
-
just saw that thread
-
will put my toughts there so you can check what needs to be put in
-
A assets are a big protocol change btw
-
so is moving to LTC but that was not stopping anyone
-
aaargh.... can't login to counterpartytalk from this one
-
LTC is not a protocol change
-
is just another, separate implementation
-
If you were around from the beginning you would see that that kind of move was against all the ethos
-
Community ethos doesn't affects protocols
-
protocols are sentiment-less
-
Counterparty was always clearly a Bitcoin meta layer
-
they aren't ethic nor unethic
-
eth·ic
ˈeTHik/
noun
noun: ethic; plural noun: ethics
1.
a set of moral principles, especially ones relating to or affirming a specified group, field, or form of conduct.
"the puritan ethic was being replaced by the hedonist ethic" -
so with that in place.... a protocol change has a lifecycle
-
that exists
-
dogeparty
-
aah lol
-
naaah.... XCP is a BTC beast
-
and with chris moss atomic swaps in place the environment changed drastically
-
depends
-
*regarding to pepe
-
XCP over BTC is great for business shares
-
equity and stuff
-
cards and pepes prolly need to move somehow
-
Peperoniex i prefer
-
lol
-
there's a way
-
but we're pondering over the legal stuff
-
pepe guys
-
i should tag my comments now
-
as pepe community founder> we're studying ways to solve it now
-
#rarepepe #pepedex
-
as counterparty developer> the protocol is great, needs some fixes and adjustements to lower fees..... but it's working great for what it was intended for
-
as foundation member> XCP stays on Bitcoin Core for the foreseeable future
-
foundation seats are going to be elected soon though
-
what foundation?
-
the one dante was agreeing with devin to move to Litecoin with if asset names could be retained? lol
-
I'm missing the context for this zen koan
-
as xcp dev> A starting assets need to change the encoding of counterparty asset names to IDs, currently the asset space exists between BAAA and ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
-
basically JDog is left with a bunch of funds in his control unless we have a foundation
-
it’s a shitty place to be in. part of the scorched earth plan
-
he was at the time :)
-
how can we have tranquil gardens were happy pepes conduct leisurely commerce from the comfort of their lily pads, instead of scorched earth?
-
jdog could just choose not to ever move the funds again as well regardless of what anyone says or wants. like u said, what if something happened to him?
-
what foundation?
-
is it not preposterous that possibly a billion dollars of theoretically realisible digital asset value can have a single point of failure? May J-Dog live long and prosper, but how is the non-existent foundation managing this risk?
-
we are waiting for Dante to come back so we can vote to hire a lawyer to fix everything LOL
-
oh, yeah I've seen how lawyers fix shit
-
i think the foundation owes a couple hundred bucks to pay for the entity to continue
-
it’s not gone gone but close to being gone.
-
hmmm okay
-
but with the non profit not being approved i think it was pointless for it to continue AFAIK
-
but i’m not a lawyer
-
You are a liar @ShawnLeary
There was a conference call where you and your cabal described your 3-5 possible plans to fork to LTC and the only one that would not damage asset holders with possible new owners of the same asset names was the first idea put out by Devon.
I never agreed to doing a move to LTC but I voiced that the only idea that was the least shitty was that one. None of you people wanted that though. -
so that's a thing to fix to start with
-
HaHahahahahahah!!!!
-
I'm waiting you to do some sucking
-
u are denying you agreed that a fork to LTC was good only if you held onto your asset names?
-
I'm just gonna make a cup of tea and come back in a while...
-
you and devon were on the same page which made jdog quit the skype call
-
and then i came around to your two opinions but whatever
-
i don’t agree
-
litecoin should be it’s own project
-
it’s not counterparty
-
-
i have no problem publicly stating when i change my mind
-
i think the funny back story is the recent article about Trevor while on the board pushing for Bitcoin unlimited!
-
i was in the “cabal” chat and never once heard that!!!
-
i agree. they are in the discord, it was in the chat Dante setup
-
It was in a public chat but wasn’t recorded
-
because they don't want that transparency
-
Dante who setup the discord?
-
again, i point to the last time the foundation was pushing for a fork. we never heard ANYTHING about it
-
all calls are recorded as you called for in the 1st meeting
-
i’m the dick who has been trying to add Dan to the “cabal” chat.
-
ppl have left the chat thinking he might actually join too :)
-
dante who setup the Official Counteparty Discord where the cabal meeting took place?
-
-
@ShawnLeary you recorded the call last week as per your verbatim plagiarism of Robby's comments on the caall that you used in your last post on counterpartytalk
-
@ShawnLeary I invite you to post that audio
-
Dante, who owns/setup the Counterparty Discord that the last “cabal” chat happened?
-
LOL
-
Wait i’m the liar right??
-
Your cabal meeting? IDK where you did that
-
guys, this is fundamentally about ensuring there's an open transparent governance framework, providing clear procedures for debate, with a mechanism for all voices to be heard, some kind of democratic decision making process with verifiable documentation of outcomes?
-
Dante did you setup the official counterparty discord?
-
YES
-
you know the answer
-
You are hosting these “cabal” meetings. LOL
-
are you being cute?
-
nope
-
you have whatever other meetings you want
-
that I was not part of
-
he has kept this project alive.
-
what have you done?
-
i didn’t deny the cabal
-
just curious to why Dante things he isn’t part of it all of a sudden
-
Not sure what everyone is still fighting over
-
Counterparty is Bitcoin and isn’t going anywhere.
-
Unless everyone loves BCash and Julian 🤣
-
part of what dude?
-
exactly
-
Not quite, this will have to do
-
-
@ShawnLeary why don't you release the recording from last Thursday? You know, the one where Robby asked for a vote among 7 people about who wanted to fork?
-
Only people against it was Mike, me, and J-Douche (for his own weird reasons)
For was Robby, Reuben, Devon,
"On the fence" was Shawn Leary -
is that not true @ShawnLeary ?
-
I'm still trying to grok all the recent action...
I take it such a vote would have been a (non)foundation-non-binding straw poll, if it were not a publicly notified, convened and documented (non)foundation meeting?
Hence the "cabal" references? -
I think it's fine for people who either hold or have held leadership roles, or have highly invested stakes and interests in the project to have such discussions and to treat such votes as straw polls makes sense, then positions can be published for wider community input?
-
I'm not going to get into people's personal beefs, I'm looking at this from a governance problem/solution perspective
-
I was given a tl;dr months ago from one person that he and others including @ShawnLeary and @chiguireitor and others were planning a fork
-
i didn't plan a fork... i publicly proposed pluggable chains
-
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
-
BRB, ... dinner
-
if we start from the premise that we have a process problem, not a people problem, it makes deadlock resolution and forward progress much easier. I realise that's not necessarily the "truth" for everyone, but it's a place to stand and work from
-
and been on the dev side since june
-
I'm going to take some time today to read through counterpartytalk, get back into slack, go back over some of this, start to map out what I see the core themes and ideational conflicts are... if we can map out a set of conflict clouds for consideration, that could help break any remaining perceived deadlocks / paradoxes.
-
Evaporating Cloud
The Evaporating Cloud is one of the six Thinking Processes in the Theory of Constraints. The Evaporating Cloud (EC) - also referred to in the literature as "the cloud", or as a "conflict resolution diagram" - is a logical diagram representing a problem that has no obvious satisfactory solution.
-
I'll work through with this framework and see what I can come up with
-
the only certain point I can see requiring urgent action is getting the lawyering done to ensure the foundation is duely registered as an NFP with a valid board?
-
MFBA.
Is there a conflict or impasse with respect to the very existence and rationale of the Counterparty Foundation?
Does that need to be included in the scope of conflict resolution? -
My natural assumption is a functional foundation (either with its current bylaws or with proposed amendments) is an essential requirement for effective project and community governance.
However, if there is a desire on the part of enough interested parties to re-examine fundamental assumptions in order to achieve consensus to move forward, is there a benefit in doing that?
I'm not trying to blow things up here by the way, I'm merely seeking to establish a common place for everyone to stand in shared understanding, in order to move forward.
As it seems to me that is what is missing right now.
If I've got this wrong, happy to be corrected :) -
And if not enough people think this is a useful line of inquiry, I'm happy to drop it. I'm committed to Counterparty's success, but I'm not Joan of Arc on a Crusade here.
-
I'm not this Pepe.
-
-
Check this:
https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/Documentation/blob/master/Bylaws/Counterparty_Foundation_Bylaws.mdCounterpartyXCP/DocumentationOfficial Documentation of the Counterparty Project - CounterpartyXCP/Documentation
-
Thank you, will do.
-
BTW, for those of you who don't know me, I was a two term city councillor of a large Sydney, Australia council, chaired various committees, including planning committee which debated and voted on hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property development, basically 8.5 years on the board of an entity with billions in assets and a $150M p.a. budget... I was deputy mayor in my final year , briefly acting mayor conducting citizenship swearing in ceremony... so I know a bit about governance, chairing debates and seeking community consensus on least worst outcomes, which is about the best we can hope for in this crazy messy imperfect world.
-
once I understand what I'd be letting myself in for :)
-
we need to surface all the conflicts and all critical issues requiring resolution first, put together an agenda... I'll learn the Bylaws first then come back for suggestions :)
-
@ShawnLeary are you going to post the audio from the last conference-call?
Whether you should:
I vote YES! -
Can everyone please chime in with your vote?
-
What audio? The one you setup a bot to record with in you discord that hosted the meetin??
-
Lol
-
Meeting in
-
@ShawnLeary can you please answer the question at hand?
-
-
Nice deflection Dante, you wouldn’t want the audio released because you were all about forking the entire project to Litecoin LOL
-
Then someone knocked some sense into you :)
-
I'm asking you to
-
Which is great
-
Dude, it’s your discord chat
-
Mr "I'm on the fence" Leary
-
You spent weeks setting up all the different channels in IR
-
It
-
You even tested out the bot to record stud
-
Stuff
-
I have no idea how to record audio in discord nor care
-
post the audio shawn
-
You didn't record it in Discord but you knew that
-
Yea, it’s called being honest Dante, you should look into it.
-
you're too cute
-
What audio?
-
-
do you not have the audio @ShawnLeary ?
-
Seriously have no idea what you are talking about. Was there audio?
-
I thought you had some bot
-
👆🏼
-
-
I could go back and screen capture where you added the audio bot, lol
-
Dante it’s ok to have a change of heart, just don’t be a little b about it
-
why don't you answer the question honestly?
-
Dante you know you are wrong bro. Sad
-
It will all come out @ShawnLeary
-
How dare you break the blood brother oath of the cabal!! Shame on your family for ten generations ;)
-
Give me back my three goats
-
-
you are already doomed - you went full scammer
-
I’ve been the most honest and open board member I think.
-
I think this makes Trevor back on the board with his single vote he garnered
-
you were part of that fork cabal that Jdog told me about
-
you should do that!!!!! I love how you guys think
-
It’s joes fault, he sent one vote to each person to test out the system
-
-
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
-
What audio? To which cabal meeting?
-
@ShawnLeary please answer
-
Last week
-
All the ones u were at? Or the ones before?
-
I’ve recorded one Counterparty hangout and posted it
-
what part of last week is difficult?
-
If I had any audio of course I would share it.
-
The one where u were in favor of a fork to Litecoin? Lol
-
are you saying that you do not?
-
-
When Pepepoloniex?
-
@ShawnLeary will not directly answer a simple question
-
interesting
-
Dante, [29.12.17 21:36]
Only people against it was Mike, me, and J-Douche (for his own weird reasons)
For was Robby, Reuben, Devon,
"On the fence" was Shawn Leary
Dante, [29.12.17 21:36]
is that not true @ShawnLeary ? -
Can you also answer this otherone that you ignored? @ShawnLeary 👆🏼
-
To fork, or not to fork, this is the question
I am starting this thread to squelch a burgeoning moan from some and to bring transparency for others. There have been a few community members desiring that we move this entire project to another chain. This would involve a snapshot at a set block and everything, lock stock and barrel, gets implemented on a new chain, they have mainly suggested Litecoin as the destination. Litecoin has proven itself to stay lock step with Bitcoin Core and I imagine that this will continue down the road. Bitc...
-
This was my thoughts after being on the fence
-
👆🏼 mostly Robby's words
-
You stole most of that LOL
-
you wanted to sound as smart as Robby 😂
-
So when did you change your mind on the fork to Litecoin?
-
LOL when Dan spanked you? ;)
-
Josh said, are you fucking cray??
-
Lol
-
Talk about having original thoughts lolol
-
when did you stop fucking your boyfriend?
-
Does your spouse know?
-
You are a complete contradiction. I’m on record, did you even comment on that thread?
-
No you said I QUIT! Now we get Trevor lol
-
Serves us right :)
-
J-Douche decided that because it is his website after all
-
He does own all the domains
-
and the money
-
JDog has been keeping this project going for the last couple years. We should be thankful of his efforts
-
🙏
-
When the old block explorer shut down he built xchain to replace it
-
Blockscan, can’t remember, it was dank
-
I would like more ppl too TBH
-
An escrow legal entity would be great
-
It is just J-Dogparty
-
I think we will have that again
-
We need more people for PR stuff too
-
Hold new elections and move on.
-
Impeach
-
I think everyone would be happy to dissolve it, just don’t want him to be stuck with legal implications. Worse case scenario the money gets lost. One way is it goes back to who donated
-
Or somehow we get a legal entity again and then it just hands it over.
-
Maybe Dante could hold the funds?
-
did you all discuss that already?
-
There's also the fact that the community has 0 interest in running ancillary services for Counterparty benefit
-
The only guy putting up the time for that is jdog
-
You didn’t record the audio?? Wtf!!?? 😂
-
Explorers: 1
-
Official wallet: ran by jdog because no one else does
-
Public api: jdog
-
Where's the community stepping up to replace him
-
No
-
I'm not meaning that
-
But jdog runs that one too
-
What I mean: if you care about Counterparty, hosting public services is something that's in dire need
-
No one has asked here how much costs to run Counterparty servers, and who pays it
-
And I use it a lot
-
It’s a good resource
-
Because you could change Counterparty man
-
It's open source
-
Yep... About that price
-
Guess who pays it?
-
he gets reimbursed and he is also running a business that relies on that running
-
Yup
-
I donated a 1BTC to run his servers
-
We're all here to make money
-
Ain't we?
-
Not sure when it was but was way before the current run up
-
I mean, no one here is meaning to sacrifice their lives for a hopeless cause
-
If you really care for Counterparty, do something
-
I code for it
-
Admittedly I just have done just 1 accepted cip
-
But I'm finishing a big one (cip10)
-
And have several PRs opened against several issues
-
I'm not playing that
-
I'm making loads of money out of that
-
Because I know what's to come
-
So if you're in for the money, and want Counterparty to fill your bags, do something
-
The explainer video: no one has picked up the slack
-
A simple video explaining what Counterparty is
-
3-5 minutes, simple words...
-
Someone needs to make the storyboard and propose it
-
I clicked on that video and a dash ad popped
-
Lol
-
That's what I mean
-
Even on Counterparty videos I get videos about some other crypto
-
And we have the funds
-
It's not like we don't
-
Chris video is ok for geeky ppl
-
But we need to explain to ppl buying XRP why that's a bad idea and instead invest in XCP (because, hey, this is way a better platform)
-
Yeah
-
But counterwallet is heavy
-
And there's more need of API endpoints
-
Plugins for i.e. unity
-
Etc
-
The list is huge
-
And there's so much we can do enhancing the protocol
-
Yep
-
What we also need is another desktop wallet
-
Because the only one is made by... Guess who
-
That's a plug-in
-
Rarepepewallet is great, but it's closed source
-
Not that you cannot ctrl-shift-j it tho
-
Indeed
-
XCP is best in class because it is on BTC
-
Pluggable chains was an idea to appease the TX fee hordes
-
But as we can see, that gets solved by forks
-
And the more the merrier
-
-
Lol... Witch kiss is a real issue
-
Stupid short toilets
-
Btw.... When I say explainer video, I would love something like kurzgesagt
-
It's the year of the forks, John

The Fermi Paradox — Where Are All The Aliens? (1/2)
The universe is unbelievably big – trillions of stars and even more planets. Soo… there just has to be life out there, right? But where is it? Why don’t we see any aliens? Where are they? As an exercise I'll probably implement a redis backend for Counterparty
-
So ppl can run Counterparty on redis lol
-
That would be downright hilarious
-
A backend plugin
-
No
-
-
Lol. Oh. Jajajaja
-
Counterparty is designed in such a way that it really doesn't needs a real chain behind it if you bend it enough
-
And the amount of "bending" is kinda minimal
-
Aah welp... Yeap, like addrindex, btcd or indexd
-
So, we can bend pepes off chain, group them and such
-
Not really
-
If you take them off chain they lose value
-
Indeed
-
Even with prints. Over saturation.
-
Unless it is done via an atomic swap... But that's centralized asf
-
Prolly
-
But running it would need a lot of lawyering up
-
Centralized exchanges. DEX is complicated for most. They need a central authority.
-
Yup
