Also notice that the "Trigger" button (upper right corner) on a dispensers page is wallet-specific... so, gotta use Horizon wallet to trigger the dispensers... so much for no preferential treatment to any specific wallet over another... Your driven towards horizon wallet in every direction... Makes it real appealing for other CP devs to want to build wallets when the tools to view CP transactions are biased.

So there are two different potential conflicts of interest that I (Adam) see. The first is the possibility of supporting Unspendable Labs' business over the interests of the community (e.g. Horizon Wallet + Explorer over other wallets and explorers). The second is that the entities funding the company Unspendable Labs could push the protocol development in a way that favors their own interests.
The second question is easy to answer: the existing funding for UL comes 100% from (1) myself, (2) the Bitcoin Frontier Fund (who have made their investment public), and (3) close friends and family (whose names I won't disclose)
The first question is harder to answer. Yes, there's a potential conflict of interest. It's possible that I personally could push to change the protocol in a way that favors the UL business. That's possible in any case where someone who leads development of a community project also runs a business that makes use of that project. All I can really say here that UL and I are much more incentivized to make Counterparty successful than to increase UL's short-term revenue. That's why 100% of Counterparty development is done out in the open, including all issue tracking and prioritization, and why Horizon Wallet is fully open-source. -

I'm just a "toxic" dev who's been here for 10+ years supporting this thing while Adam and his crew bailed out to run a for-profit company, took on 28 mill of VC funds, and eventually filed for bankruptsy, then sold the company for a couple mil... Then returned to CP right afterwards, took over control of the codebase, centralized the repos and community, and quietly got 630K of VC funds 3+ months ago... which were not disclosed until he was questioned about it here... at which point, he tried to kick me out of the channel for asking difficult questions he didn't want to answer, and when he was not able to kick me out/censor me, then rage-quit this channel and started a new channel, which is heavily censored/moderated, to keep the narrative of "CP 2.0 is the best, all is fine, no problems here" 🤷️️️️️️

AFAIK that is horizon wallet code, which simply supports the importing of freewallet passphrases, which is necessary for them to try and get ppl to migrate from FreeWallet which has been here and working for 10 years... to their new Horizon wallet which lacks ability to do orders, broadcasts, sign txs, sweeps, easily manage dispensers, etc...... Horizon Explorer is closed source... so unless your on their dev team, this is code from Horizon Wallet, not explorer

I would suggest making your wallet support using the counterparty: URI to launch the users preferred counterparty walllet.... Here is a list of links which you can use to open a counterparty compatible wallet... including making logging into a website using a CP wallet a 1-click....

Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) are a prefix which are used to access a resource (like a wallet) and then pass information to that resource.... you can make it wallet specific (`freewallet:`) or you can establish a standardize set of data / actions that can be passed to a more generalized counterparty: URI... when a user clicks the web link with counterparty: prefix... the OS detects that and prompts the user if they want to launch their preferred app and passes data to that app

Bro... re-read the past few weeks of chats... you can add new features like atomic swaps, and get them working BEFORE you break dispensers.... this is how software development works... you add new stuff, migrate users to the new stuff once it is stable/working, then remove the old stuff.... If they had solutions that were working now, there would be no reason to get upset and ppl would just use the new features

I got that information from the community here who has been speaking out, as well as many DMs, as well as listening to twitter spaces where users talked abuot how removing the functionality without suitable replacements has cost them funds and driven them away from the platform..... SURE, the simplest solution is for me to just go away rather than stand up for the community and be their voice... But that is not how I roll, and I wont be bullied into anything, including shitting on the community who has been here for 10 years, simply to add new features that will supposedly drive tons of user adoption..... TLDR, its easy to add new features without breaking old stuff until suitable replacements are working.

It's now a single action to open a dispenser on an empty address. It's a pretty straightforward workaround for the change in dispenser functionality in Core v10.4.0 👆

But I thought dispensers were dead n atomic swaps were the way forward… so confused by core devs…. Break dispensers n make them 3x more expensive…. Then work to make them only 2x more expensive…. Vs same amount of energy to just restore lost functionality n do things in 1 tx…. Plus still requires 3txs to close dispenser n return funds to address….
To open/close a dispenser we went from 2 tx total to 6 tx total, now down to 5tx….. n users are supposed to be happy about this? 🤷🏻♂️🤣 -

This screenshot is missing the fee estimation that I would expect to see on this form in the latest version of FreeWallet.
I do not believe this is a FreeWallet specific problem… and more than likely using an older version of FreeWallet.
Clicking on the FreeWallet logo and taking a screenshot of the about information box will show the version of freewallet. Version 2.0.1 is the latest release.
Since the release of 10.4 I have heard of a few different people having the similar issue where they create dispensers using both FreeWallet and Horizon, and the dispenser never shows up, even though the transaction is confirmed.
I can look into this a bit more in the morning … however at this point, it doesn’t appear to be a FreeWallet specific issue. -

As I have said quite a few times, most users are not technical, and will not waste the time to create a github account and report issues on github, which unfortunately now is the only way that the core dev team accepts any type of feedback on issues... Most users will just try to use the platform as they have in the past, when things stop working as they have in the past, or users find features unstable and that they are losing BTC on transactions, they will simply move on and stop using the platform, and/or wait for the issue to get reported and fixed by someone more technical than them.
I have heard of at least 15-20 cases where dispensers were created in the past month, both in freewallet and in Horizon, where the tx was mined, but no dispenser showed up... @codythecampbell is one of the users who experienced this a few times.... However, it is not my job to track down issues in the counterparty core software, and report them to the core developers (and I get attacked when I do)... I believe it is the core developers jobs to TEST the software that they put out to make sure things work as expected before release.... and to find and fix fringe cases like this.
Unfortunately, IMO tracking down issues like this does not seem to be much of a priority to the core devs, and things are only looked into when a bunch of users report having issues.... Like was the case with the 10.4 release, where BTC sends were supposed to auto-convert to "dispense" transactions, however that was not the case, and even after many users complained for over a week about losing funds, nothing was done until I went and reported these issues via github.

Also... random note: Notice the tx fees are a bit high right now... it perfectly demonstrates how using more txs to create a dispenser costs a bunch more... with origin functionality, things were 1 tx ($26)... however now that that functionality has been removed in counterparty core, it now costs 3 txs ($78) on a protocol level 🤷️️️️️️

Yup… can only create dispensers on your “source” address now…. If you want to open dispenser on a new/empty address, you have to send Bitcoin and the asset to the new address and then changed to that new dispenser address and then open the dispenser.

Too bad atomic swaps aren’t fully working yet, or integrated into any wallets. Also many ways to make dispensers “unruggable” have been discussed in the past, including a reservation system, partial payment system, etc… but community could never come to consensus on preferred method…… also the “ruggable” narrative is way overplayed… very few people have actually lost any funds vs how many ppl have used dispensers without any issues.

People can get rugged on fair mints, src-20, shitcoins, so if safety was the issue then probs best warning people of risks when recommending people use seed phrase in new wallets, as that's the biggest way people lose, but no one said that when recommending users to do that action.
The point is, is there's alot of people that use dispensers, until alternatives are working then u don't just break shit.
You can get scammed using opensea and metamask, where you can lose your whole wallet, yet they haven't stopped operating.
DYOR and learn what not to do, what ever platform you use.

Because Counterparty WAS a community based project and we discussed possible solutions with the community and came to consensus before changes were made to the protocol... This is why we had a "Counterparty Improvement Proposal" system and lengthy discussions to propose solutions and hash them all out. This is why many of the changes that people wanted to implemented were never actually implemented on a protocol level... Because in order to move things forward, and avoid ledger forks, gotta get general consensus that the changes are good / approved / desired by the community..... Versus just deciding what the community needs and forcing those changes into the protocol with very little community engagement 🤷️️️️️️

Also... dispensers were created by John Villar (RIP) and myself to solve the problem of being able to easily use BTC to buy something on the Counterparty platform in a single transaction... since using BTC on the DEX to purchase stuff was complex and people were either not using the system, constantly asking questions about why it wasn't working, or losing funds.... So, we created dispensers to allow someone to easily setup a vending machine at a set price, put tokens into it, and allow anyone to purchase in a single tx.... vs the DEX solution at the time which required :
1. Seller place order on DEX to swap token for BTC
2. Buyer place order on DEX to swap BTC for token
3. System to match the orders
4. Buyer to monitor for order matches
5. Buyer to send BTC payment within 20 blocks or order match would expire
If buyer didn't monitor for order matches... swap didn't happen
If buyer failed to send BTC payment within 20 blocks... swap didn't happen
If buyer sent BTC payment with low tx fee, or right before 20 block order match expired... rugged.
So you see, Dispensers were created to make counterparty easier to use... No solutions are perfect, but they were definitely an improvement from just using the DEX... and tweaks were made to dispensers to make them safer (added 5 block close dispenser delay to prevent sellers from closing dispensers as soon as they saw incoming BTC payment) -

Again, dispensers aren't going anywhere for a long time. Even though they're fundamentally and unnecessarily trusted. Yeah, it’s just a display issue on tokenscan.io related to the divisibility of certain tokens, getting updated incorrectly… I’ll dig into this issue as soon as I get back from lunch… should be a pretty simple fix. Once. I figure out WTF is going on and how counterparty2mysql, which is worked perfectly fine for many many years is mysteriously updating with bad information now that it’s talking to the latest version of counterparty core🤷🏻♂️

Horizon is also significantly slower when loading data, since they query counterparty API directly rather than from an optimized/indexed database like tokenscan does…. Requests to horizon to load 100 results in the Explorer takes between 4-6 seconds…. With almost no load on their API servers…. Vs tokenscan.io which responds to requests within 1 to 2 seconds, and handles close to 75k unique visitors per month and 24 million API requests per month🤷🏻♂️

Yes, in early 2021 after many years with no XCP exchange listings, I spent a few months focusing on getting XCP re-listed on exchanges... Unfortunately it is a pay-to-play game, and everyone required a listing fee to list... Here is the info on the exchanges, the amounts wanted at the time, etc.
Funds were raised for the exchange listings via BLACKBOX tokens and I worked with the exchanges to get markets setup (XCP/BTC & PEPECASH/BTC)
As far as liquidity, there were a few holders of XCP who setup XCP buy/sell orders and provided liquidity... Also, these exchanges all had minimum monthly trade volume requirements and wanted to get paid monthly for "volume generation bots" which were necessary to maintain the listing... About $300/mo for a few years... I paid this monthly fee to the exchanges out of my own pocket in order to keep the listings up... I stopped paying for this "volume generation bot" service in late 2023
