-
To avoid spam I minted this on SOL
-
-
What kind of value system do you have to use a tool for self sovereignty and personal freedom for get-rich-quick schemes involving transactions that are vaild in order to create on chain art that is clearly spam.
-
Decentralized censorship-resistant protocols should not require a “value system” in order to function properly. If a decentralized, censorship-resistant protocol requires users to interact with it nicely in order for it to work properly, it is neither of those things, and needs to be adjusted
-
Otherwise we don’t need code; we can just have a set of polite rules for interacting with a Google docs spreadsheet
-
nicely is a subjective term that requires a value system to define it.
-
Spam is unwanted solicitation, not unwanted traffic that follows all traffic rules
-
Bitcoin doesn’t care if you are an anarchist hacker from Singapore or JP Morgan; it resists any attempts to subvert it with aplomb. You can come at it any way, but every way you interact with it only makes it stronger. The times in history where some interaction has been found to be a detriment to Bitcoin’s continued existence, the protocol has been revised.
-
Indeed, and this is why stamps are not spam, unless your value system says that they are not nice
-
This is why when a use case is found to be abusive and unwanted, the protocol itself must change
-
Specifically because they are spam the protocol must change.
-
Please define how a vaild tx is abuse
-
It is like saying, I dont like your car, it is ugly, driving on the road under the current rules is abuse
-
Im offended by how you use blockchain, use it my way
-
even if your way follows all-current-rules
-
so is the freedom granted to us by blockchain
-
The way Stamps uses Counterparty is very similar to the way Counterparty uses Bitcoin 🤷♀️
-
indeed
-
That’s exactly what the government does though - implement taxes and fees for cars and vehicles that tend to tear up the highway and ruin the experience for everyone else. Truck weigh scales, carpool lanes, vehicle taxes. Thanks for proving my point
-
They network does not see any vaild tx as spam period, this word "spam" is a subjective term, that requires a value system to define it as "bad" in doing so it does - the exact same thing- that ALL indexers do, set a subjective value to a tx.
-
indeed, and those tx have paid a higher fee, it is even on the blockchain to see
-
However this is not needed, all that is needed is for a miner to add it to a block, even with ZERO fee a stamp could in theory be added, as the miners choose, not highest fee first, it is totaly up to the miner
-
So in the road example of taxes the miner is the goverment
-
Not at all. Counterparty uses Bitcoin rails and pays tx fees for the privilege - and if Bitcoin is to move to a tx fee based economy then this is essential. Stamps abuse xcp and contribute nothing to the maintenance or development of the protocol; no fees, nothing. No one in 2014 envisioned that someone would make thousands and thousands of numeric assets at once to abstract represent something. It’s clearly a use case that needs a small fee attached. Nothing absurd, but enough that XCP will benefit
-
This is simply not accurate
-
Oh so you’re admitting your road example was a poor one, because otherwise you would prove my point. Nice way to backstep
-
I am not backsteping in any way, I am describing how the bitcoin network works
-
Wrong
-
Yes I’m aware how the current situation is, repeating it in different words doesn’t change the fact that it abuses the XCP protocol.
-
“Nuh uh!” 🙄
-
More users are using counterparty than ever before, people are exposed to the named assets more than ever before due to stamps, also stamps has devs ect please do not spread fake news with no research
-
it is simply not accurate at all
-
It is ok if you do not debate in good faith, I think the record of discussion shows this.
-
stamps devs are doing interesting work on the protocol and are building great tools. Thanks, Stamps devs!
-
If a way were found to send unlimited small BTC transactions without using a fee - unsure how, let’s just say for the point of discussion that it were found, and suddenly the UTXO exploded and BTC became unusable for everyone who *was* paying a fee… what do you think would happen next? Would the argument “but that’s the protocol!” Would hold weight?
-
but counterparty doesn't have its own blockchain.
-
Yes up until recently the main counterparty website simply did not function even. The only way to reliably see xcp assets for the last seven years was jdog’s maintenance
-
Around 2021 I gave up even going to the official counterparty website.
-
Everyone is extremely thankful for Jeremy's work on Counterparty over the years!
-
Now stamps people found a new way to abuse the protocol and all the original XCP people who long ago abandoned the project smell dollar signs and are rushing in to say “wait wait we control counterparty!” It’s shameful.
-
bit bitcoin does the transaction ordering for Counterparty and Counterparty just parses a subset of those transactions. we don't need to worry about spam at the blockchain level.
-
I am not sure who you think 'smells dollar signs' but Counterparty was created without any fundraising.
-
To my knowledge no request has been made for funding by anyone working on it, including the Stamps team.
-
Counterparty died off because there are no incentives to maintain the protocol, and most people abandoned it because they weren’t incentivized otherwise. And now, on top of the lack of incentives - you are adding a stipulation that XCP services must deal with 10,000x more traffic and spam in addition to not being incentivized in the first place.
-
Again, the fact that the code base was degraded and broken, and the main XCP server on the main website didn’t work is proof of this. XCP was a flawed economic system from the beginning, and stamps just ramps that up to the next level.
What will happen is the stamps spam will extract whatever foolish fomo profit is to be derived from this bull run, then like monkey jpegs they will abandon the protocol and move on to something new in three years and XCP will be even further in ruins than ever before -
It is not “arguing in bad faith” to suggest that rational actors need an incentive to maintain a system. That’s just basic game theory. You are the one suggesting that benevolent fairies will maintain the extraordinary amount of data and traffic you will generate
-
it seems like you're no longer discussing the technical aspects of Counterparty so there isn't much more for me to say, except thanks to everyone who's building on Counterparty and contributing to the protocol!
-
-
-
Yes, imagine someone who abandoned xcp for years only to come back when they smelled dollar signs. Incidentally, I hope you enjoyed your time away the past 7 years, and oh by the way how much have you made from your kekbasilisks and pepeamcanis youve been shilling?
Shameful indeed, right!? -
Yes and a warm thank you to the rare Pepe (named asset) community for once again changing my life and allowing me to focus on crypto once more. If not for rare pepes I would still be trapped in credit card debt and would be slaving away washing dishes in a greasy kitchen, no brain cycles left to worry about the future of XCP. Truly, the greatest Christmas gift of my life. A genuine thank you to everyone who was involved in the rare Pepe project and who encouraged me all those years ago, and another big thanks to the early AI art community who have begun understanding the value of early AI artwork
-
Thanks to rare pepes I’ll be able to launch a new named asset nft series on counterparty, and in the spirit of rare pepes will allow anyone who wants to to submit AI generated art of magical items and control the supply.
-
@katiecharm I'm actually pretty sympathetic to your arguments for improving the incentivization structures of Counterparty. I think we could do a lot more with XCP generally, and in particular I'm very much in favor of working to design a comprehensive gas system in the future to better encourage positive behavior, discourage wasting resources, etc.
The thing is, the design of any incentivization scheme has to be balanced with a desire for decentralization. There isn't an obvious way to incentivize users to run Counterparty "nodes" without introducing some central authority that distributes those funds. It's the same with Bitcoin actually—miners are incentivized to mine, but there's no inherent incentive for running a Bitcoin full node either. The Bitcoin network works because the value of projects on *top* of Bitcoin are so valuable that the cost of running a Bitcoin node is neglible. My hope is that the same thing can happen with Counterparty. :) So right now we're working on making it cheaper and easier to run a node and making it easier to build valuable projects on top of the platform. Then we can find ways of extending the functionality of the protocol in a way that demonstrates the value of the native token. -
Hey all, sorry to bother but trying to send btc from freewallet and getting the P2WSH not supported error.. No expert here, but can anyone offer some insight so I at least understand it better?
-
whenever i have trouble using BTC on freewallet i just import the private key into electrum and use it. It doesn't solve problems with counterparty assets but if you just need to move BTC works everytime..
-
-
Thank you for the tip, should have thought of that lol
-
-
Test
-
I see this
-
Haha I think since you left and rejoined, you’re rate limited possibly?
-

One more time, cuz I'm getting tired editing old messages. Was just saying its sort of hilarious seeing Katie Charm associate everything "bad" in the world with Stamps. If you're pro-Elon Musk and anti-Vaxx somehow you're a Stamper. I believe she even referred to Xcer and GMoney as Stamp simps which couldn't be further from the truth lol -
I haven’t voted against Stamps but I do crack up over the trolling Gmoney does
-
Why does the xcp tally keep changing on the vote page? I could have swore it was over 60K a few days ago. Now it sits at 51K.
-
I think some dupes were put in I accidently voted twice
-
I thought I was the most annoying person in the world until Charm came along
-
-
I'm the only one doing that and I promise you I don't do stamps...
I do have more fan fiction whenever you're ready -
what do you guys know about the history of Age of Rust on Counterparty? - 7 years ago minted on Counterparty - then moved to Enjin, then Polygon - released on Steam but then was booted due to NFT laws stuff - now 'coming soon' on Epic Games....
main thing I am wondering is what RUSTBITS were used for....
anybody got any good info for it I may be missing? -
It would be nice to have an easy setup package for a Counterparty node with a basic built-in wallet.
-
WIP!
-
a bunch of people doing a lot of good work, not all of it is broadcast in this channel though 🙂

i can't speak for anyone else but haven't been in touch with Patrick Byrne for a long time. You'd have to ask him (looks like you did!) about xcp on tzero 🙂

Medici was stopped in 2021 (their XCP fork)

I wrote:
"Originally posted on the Counterparty website, CEO of Overstock.com Patrick Byrne decided to hire Counterparty Developers to create a blockchain based system for Overstock.
They created a project code-named Medici, which was a 'front-end and portal to the decentralized stock exchange of the Counterparty platform'. Since the Counterparty Decentralized Exchange had become popular at this time, this cryptographic layer aimed to re-create the DEx while also going through a private process of regulatory compliance.
In this Coindesk article Byrne said, '[Counterparty] is true to the ethics of bitcoin, true to the open-source nature, they're true to the principles.'
While this venture was closed in April of 2021, Overstock stated in the press release, 'We remain bullish on blockchain technology and are excited for Medici Ventures to enter this new post-closing phase' and also go on to mention they would be shifting focus to their 'core e-commerce business'."

What do you think of Mikes idea of rebranding XCP to bBTC - burnt Bitcoin
-
lol i never saw that idea. based on some of his comments mike isn't XCP's biggest fan so I'm curious what he thinks that rebranding will do... @mikeinspace ?
-
NGL I think it’s a decent idea, but I would never support changing the name XCP unless the founders were on board with it.
-
-
Wonder if the biggest showstopper was the fact that blocks take an average of 10 mins to confirm.
How can you trade stocks on BTC if you can trade them on Bloomberg terminals in microseconds? -
Many projects left xcp because of this alone in the early days
-
-
I always thought it would be nation states and large trades b/w commodities, bonds, etc…. Where fee and time are less important but security and proof is required.
-
-
-
How much will you charge the degen wall st boys for their tickers?
-
-
-
I have nothing against XCP, per se, in fact I run a number of named asset projects. It just doesn't fit into the Stamps brand. The rebranding idea (mostly a joke) was to position XCP as pegged Bitcoin to remove the "shitcoin" perception.
-
Gm and I have to say I agree with Mike here, I’m also involved in the xcp market as it were, and think it’s cool. But it doesn’t really align with the minimalist proposition of stamps.
-
Ah okay, understood. I thought I saw you call it a 'shitcoin' somewhere (not as a matter of general perception but as a personal opinion)
-
I have... and based on certain definitions, it technically is. I'm not a hardcore anti-shitcoiner tho.
-
The most common definition of a shitcoin: anything not Bitcoin
-
lol I don't have the temperament to discuss the nuances about what constitutes a shitcoin and it seems enough people on the Internet already do that, so I'll leave it to the experts.
-
Hello Fidelity I'd like to buy 500 shares in Google
Asset #A111222334777gheyfrog123
Confirmed you bought 500 shares of Aseet #A111222334777gheyfrog123
Wait it was actually asset #A111222334777gheyfrog122
Sorry ser you now own 500 shares of #A111222334777gheyfrog123 stamp of Alex Jones in a ghey frog suit 😂😂😂 -
I agree that numerics wouldn't work well for that usecase.
-
-
-
You’re very worried about your non stamp numerics lol
-
They can be seen on other explorers
-
I have some
-
About as bad of an idea as rebranding Twitter to x. Awful, destroys brand recognition and makes the name actively worse
-
Xcp has brand recognition?
-
3/100 crypto natives know it by name
-
99/100 OG's agree with this
-
You realize you’re talking to Xcer
-
This. is. True.
-
In this channel, confusion is often made between numeric assets and Stamps...
-
My thought experiment today is wondering if there’s some way to use sub assets to store/record either the file’s hash or maybe even the entire art piece on counterparty.
-
Can named assets have numeric assets as sub assets??
-
Could a named asset theoretically mint a giant horde of numeric assets, each with a small part of the source file?
-
Where exactly is the “information” stored for each rare pepe? That’s not stored on the BTC chain is it? That’s stored on XCP nodes? And what’s the character limit for that field??
-
Also relevant - can one mint a large number of numerics in a single BTC tx? Basically if an XCP information field can contain X amount of characters, how cheaply can I store the entirety of my KEKSBASILISK 470kb png on counterparty??
-
You can use inscriptions to store the data onchain, and reference to it from the counterparty asset
-
Nah, too expensive to store on bitcoin. But changing the counterparty data field is possible and cheap, isn’t it?
-
-
Inscriptions are like thousands of dollars for a kb aren’t they? That’s not practical
-
For sure, onchain data on bitcoin is pricey
-
Nah, would just want to force all counterparty nodes to host a copy of it
-
But not that much
-
Which would be much cheaper
-
You can use IPFS to store the data then reference it from the counterparty asset
-
or arweave if you prefer more that flavour
-
Yeah that is so easy as to just update the asset’s description - thanks for the idea. But if we wanted to go a step further than just ipfs I’m daydreaming up options
-
You could convert it to base64 and put that in the token description
-
The nodes do not store extra data like you are imagining. It's all stored on Bitcoin's blockchain. Inscriptions are a lot cheaper than using Counterparty to store data like base64 image code. You cannot store the entirety of KEKBASILISK on Counterparty nodes without also having it on Bitcoin. Counterparty nodes have all of the inscriptions on them though, since they are Bitcoin nodes too. So, you'll have to inscribe the image than you can update the description to point to that description. It looks like it'd cost $200 to inscribe it.
-
Wut. I can put 470kb of data on the BTC blockchain for $200? That is incredibly cheap. Yeah, okay I didn’t think it was feasible. I’ll look into it now. Thanks
-
-
Wasn’t me. I’m also not vegan btw

where did the cheap xcp go
-
People bought to vote
-
This is what the Rare Ordinal project did on Counterparty?
-
damn people voting real hard
-
Yeah, Looney made inscribe.art to make it easy to link for us plebs
-
While it’s technically clever to point a Counterparty token at an Ordinal Inscription, it feels like it sort of hollows out the very need for Counterparty. At that point, why not just use Ordinals?
-
This is why I made Stamps. I saw the existential threat.
-
the drama caused some awareness it seems
-
Multi-editions and being able to connect art to old tokens like SoG and Rare Pepes are 2 practical use cases
-
I airdropped my Rare Ordinals card to a few hundred wallets
-
Multi-editions are now possible on ordinals through recursion. But I get your point
-
i may have asked this before, but could asset owners change the description to the base64 string of the image they want and then their asset becomes stored on the blockchain like an inscription?
-
Yeah, it'd have the tx containing the base64 connected to the token's issuance history then
-
-
-
It's limiting and much more expensive, but Mike set things up nicely with STAMPS to compete with inscriptions
-
People are starting to realize that Counterparty writes directly to the chain rather than being a sidechain
-
9/10 bitcoiners who've heard of Counterparty would call it either a sidechain or layer 2 though
-
If we can figure out PSBT then we’re rocking.
-
Derp seems to be putting a good push together on that front
-
-
It looks promising. Requires some changes to bind an asset to a UTXO, I think.

@mikeinspace how come you're not responding to challenge of a duel? Jdog said he would be game for you two to step in a ring and wear each other out. It's the only way forward.
-
and just in case anyone's wondering I would be game for a duel as well, if Space Mike is around Nashville but he prob doesn't want that... I'm likely quite a bit bigger then he is.
-
-
that's a real duel but doubt anyone wants to die for XCP.
-
-
-
-
we can party after the duel. we'll either be XCP new and improved or Post Office coin moving fw.
-
-
Dna ngmi 🤣
-
-
funny enough - i think space mike made this card.
-
I don’t think they got much further than minting the assets. When they released a demo on Steam Rustbits were used to purchase a supply kit with tools and weapons.
-
-
This how we should do it —- debate using CP NFTs
-
-
Oh he’d win. I’ve never boxed in my life and probably 5-10 years older than JDog. So not interested.
-
I did
-
Will you send me one?
-
Tbh I think I sold every one in a dispenser the day I minted it. I have zero
-
That was a fun time. The frothy era of Covid stimmies when you could mint almost anything and sell it out instantly. I made a fortune on TSET.
-
Are you part of the curious George stamp dev team Mike? Would like one for my son. How do I get?
-
No they brought me on as an advisor. Didn’t realize they had made that public yet.
-
They are planning a sale in February I believe
-
I’ll offer 5 XCP per George.
-
I’m not selling them. They have their strategy and price point. I’m just providing my guidance to the team on technical matters
-
Please advise them to sell me one for 5 XCP
-
That’s like $15 USD? Wouldn’t even cover the mint cost.
-
You drive a hard bargain. Alright I’ll up it to 10 XCP
-
Omnia is my favorite club in Vegas by far / you can be totally sober and still feel like you’re on drugs
-
ok sick so rustbits were like the in game currency?
-
-
-
Yes, there was an ATM-like machine and you could interact with it. There were two different packs. One had more items in it than the other. You paid with Rustbits and they were withdrawn from your polygon wallet. I think I have the contents written down somewhere. I'll see if I can find it
-
Yes please let me know. That's my last puzzle piece for writing about Age of Rust - very long and interesting story with so much cryptographic and legal stuff inbetween

any reason transactions are still unconfirmed after 5 days?
-
i made 4 dispensers friday 2 of them confirmed within minutes and the other 2 are still unconfirmed 2 days later, all same miner fee set at high
-
who shut the servers down haha?
-
satoshi's on holidays?
-
yeah maybe still in vegas,at the stip club?
-
strip
-
"High" is relative and a snapshot in time. The mempool is unpredictable and your "High" might have actually been "Low"
-
how do you rectify that?
-
Also historically, using the high setting in FW doesnt mean its a factual high fee
-
RBF
-
what price are the miners looking for or is it size they go by?
-
The highest price
-
i dont think freewallet has rbf
-
Just reissue the command
-
You're right, won't be RBF, but the new command will supercede the old one if it confirms first
-
ok ill try that,my plan was to just go out ice fishing for the day and let it work itself out ha
-
I'd bet the latter transactions had to pull from 2 or more UTXOs, essentially cutting your fee by half or more.
-
15 minutes until we are LIVE in @WTHAuctionHouse!!
-
You can’t trust any of the recommended fees on any wallet. You gotta go find the average from a website and do the math yourself, or just take the “high” fee and usually nearly double it
-
Also everyone go support some XCP auctions!!!
-
What is going on with the XCP tally on the vote page? Its now down to 46,000. Are we really supposed to put faith in a poll where the methodology hasn't even been disclosed and the numbers jump up and down randomly?
-
Is there a way to “unvote”?
Can broadcasts be cancelled? -
Addresses are tracked. XCP leaving them gets excluded.
-
This answers your prev question
-
If u move them, vote is cancelled?
Interesting -
well yeah cuz otherwise it would be abused
-
I’d xcp goes to dispenser but not sold, does it “leave the address”?
-
yes
-
I probably did that. Any document explaining rules for ensuring votes r valid?
-
I'm not sure of the rules (I'm describing things I encountered)
-
I think the algo tracks the voting addresses and updates total every block
-
So I guess if u cancel the dispenser the votes should be added again
-
Let me know what happens
-
shouldn't this methodology be disclosed?
-
It might not even be malicious. Someone votes and then the next day decides to sell some xcp. The recipient bought it with the intention to vote. Did either do anything wrong? They didn't violate any written rule.
-
Agree, should be stated
-
I think at end you must have xcp in address u voted with if I have 100 and voted 100 twice, it would only class as 100, if I sold my 100, it would class as zero votes
-
So gotta have the xcp for votes when vote closes
-
I'm glad that we're just speculating and making up rules
-
Well is a known method of voting that has been used, pretty sure some rules were mentioned
-
Can't scam extra votes lol
-
Here
-
Yeah why not put it on the actual vote page so participants actually know the rules...
-
Your asking the wrong guy mate lol
-
What’s the point of this vote ?
-
Is a yes no question, maybe read the question 🤷♂
-
It’s about polling the non-technical members of a community to gauge their sentiment over a technical matter that’s already in the process of being resolved by the technical members of the community.
-
Yes I’m aware.
Seems silly -
Just asking to be silly as well
-
Glad to see u voted Mike in chat poll ;)
-
I’ll be here with 🍿 when it amounts to nothing actually happening and a community asking “but I thought we voted on a change!”
-
Doubt anyone will follow up
-
I did cuz I wanted to see the results. You are free to remove that vote I give you my blessing
-
I can't add remove any votes
-
Except @dogestyle, poll influencer
-
Booooooo
-
If it’s the tie-breaker I hearby relinquish my vote, screenshot it
-
I haven't shared anywhere so..
-

Hello, where to buy and sell XCP? Any reasonable exchange with some volume?

These days most of the volume is on dispensers. (See list below)

Book of STAMP (@Stampdirectory) on X
PSA: There is still no opensource indexer for #BTC STAMPs. STAMPs as a protocol is not decentralized yet (in terms of proper social consensus/indexing via opensource code that ANYONE w/ a node can run) Users, collectors, artists - Do not be deceived, wait for open source code.
-
-
Doesn’t even make sense
-
People don't understand what open source means, so they giggle like retards. A protocol can be open and the indexing is implicit... its just counting... no one owes anyone "working code" to do the counting.
-
Open source, non commercial is also a thing. Again: no one owes anyone shit.
-
btw, I speak on my own behalf, I'm not even involved in the indexer development and the devs will decide on their own what to do.
-
I would hope that most people accept those things to be self evident. However I concur
-
A quick question. for someone who's having problems with Electrum syncing... are there any other solid software wallets that offer a CPFP function?

The highest priorities for @CounterpartyXCP are infrastructure and ecosystem: testing, deployment, performance, code quality; new block explorers and third-party wallets. Counterparty has a *ton* of value riding on it, and we're going to make a rock solid platform to build on.

Are there any issues sending assets to BC1 addresses from freewallet, or any dispenser issues with using them?
-
I heard there might be some issues but I wanted to get some clarity if it were true on what to know
-
Taproot support is not there yet, so sending to bc1p addresses would indefinitely lock your tokens. Segwit is okay, and those addresses start with bc1q. There are some older wallets that have not upgraded their support for segwit either, so you might have an issue trying to buy from a dispenser that has a segwit address for instance.
-
It's a headscratcher as to why they didn't pick bc1t to distinguish the addresses a bit more rather than the q and p.
-
Aside from downloading and sharing the torrent, I think it would be good for artists to determine if their art has been preserved there. It's possible things were missed that could be included in an updated file potentially
-
Wait what? So if a token is sent to bc1p it can't be sent out of that address from freewallet?
If so, is that just with free wallet or could I use a different wallet with my keys plugged in and send the token out? -
Hello, bit of advice im getting errors trying to send some btc, I have just checked my addy on mempool. I have a some unspent tx's. could this be my issue? ... Ive have also tried syncing with electrum but fails and times out then tries to resync again but just keeps failed
-
-
I haven't followed it too closely, and I see that freewallet has added taproot addresses... it might be possible to send from taproot addresses now, but I recall it not being possible yet. That doesn't mean the tokens are lost rather locked until the support is added. I think the protocol needs and update to include taproot support, which was in the works and maybe already merged in one of the recent updates...
-
Thanks for your perspective
-
Anyone else have an answer on the matter or experience using it?

Yeah small UTXOs are a no go in high fee times
-
Dank u ser
-
Late gn from me
-
When broadcasting tx from freewallet, better to calculate the fees yourself.
eg: A minting is 1.22K vB but freewallet thinks is only 534vB... resulting in a lower fees.
From my expirience, these are the correct fees:
XCP TX weight
—————————
create dispenser == 265 vB
⚠️token minting == 1300 vB
token lock == 235 vB
⚠️multisend == 400-650 vB
eg: minting asset (1300vb) x mempool next block (50sats/vB) = 65.000 sats recommended fee -

They have their reasons I guess. What you’re describing would require preminting thousands of them. That’s not how they will be sold, as the minting cost will be embedded in the price upon purchase.

thousands? they think they're selling Topps generic baseball cards? I was under impression they would have a few hundred or less and just let the market dictate price from there.
